    Am i stretching too much?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 03:57 AM PDT

I started trying to get my splits almost two weeks ago. I followed Alivia D'andrea's leg stretching routine on youtube everyday. I did gymnastics when i was younger so i used to be able to do the splits but i havent been able to do it for a couple of years. On the second day after have stretched in the morning, i was able to touch the ground in my splits, but it wasn't flat so i kept going. I found that i was less and less able to do the splits as the days progressed and it hurt way more. Now it hurts a LOT even when im feet off the ground in splits and even bending over to pick stuff up hurts. Have i injured myself? Should i stop stretching so much?

I know you should always try to keep your hips square during the front split, but what's the reason behind it?

    Split training fear

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 12:05 PM PDT

Does anyone else get quite low when attempting the splits but get scared of relaxing into them? I cant seem to stop myself holding back. Like I'm scared of ripping something if I "let go"

My hamstrings are quite flexible. I do feel the stretch in my hip flexor when I get low. But nothing unbearable. How do I get past this barrier please?

is this a Physical therapist, chiropractor or other expert issue?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:36 AM PDT

I have been stretching a lot the past month and decided to take a break because I've noticed some things in my body and am worried about continuing until I know what's going on but I'm not sure who to go to to get an expert opinion. My main concerns are my shoulders and my left hip. I don't think it is anything serious and I don't believe I have injured myself but I have noticed when i walk for extended distances my left hip will begin to hurt and I have noticed it feels different when I stick my left hip out versus my right. As for my shoulders, they have always been kind of strange because I have always been able to crack them really loudly (to the point it is disturbing to other ppl who are not familiar with it, i used to do it in the middle of exams to mess with ppl lol). As I have been increasing my shoulder flexibility I have definitely noticed a blocking pain in my right shoulder that limits it from the same mobility I have in my left one. The way it sounds when I crack it also has changed so I'm not sure if that signifies anything...

TLDR; I'm experiencing limited mobility/resistance in my left hip and right shoulder and not sure if i should go to a chiropractor, physical therapist or other? pls lmk because I'm pretty sure if i went to my primary care doctor i would just be paying to get referred to someone else I have to pay.
