| Posted: 13 Jul 2020 06:00 PM PDT Has anyone had any luck doing crow pose with a bad wrist? I want to learn crow pose but I have limited mobility in my left wrist from a ganglion cyst. Is there a way I can modify the pose to make it easier on my wrist? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

| Yoga relieves PMS and period cramps? Posted: 13 Jul 2020 10:04 AM PDT So I recently started a daily yoga routine (first consistent one in my life) about 3 weeks ago and an interesting result I noticed was a complete disappearance of my PMS symptoms. I usually feel very emotional a couple of days before the onset of my period, my appetite usually increases significantly about a week before getting it and my breasts are swollen and painful. I would consider myself very in tune with my body and always notice the run up to the event. This time however, I was caught off guard and had to remember that it's been a while. Then I got it the next day. My breasts weren't swollen nor was I a moody sugar-seeking monster. I haven't done any research to see if this effect has been noted before in literature and this is just my anecdotal evidence but it would make for a very interesting large-scale study. The only thing I've changed or introduced is a daily yoga practice. I'm going to keep up with the yoga and hope the effects on mitigating PMS continue. Imagine the consistent long-term effects if it does! Have any other ladies noticed a correlation between yoga and your monthly cycle? Would love to hear. [link] [comments] |
| How can I draw alignment lines on my yoga mat? Posted: 13 Jul 2020 07:59 PM PDT Hello everyone! I was looking at buying a new yoga mat with alignment lines, and realized I can draw on my current mat! I've listed some thoughts/ questions below and would love a response.

| What is the best way to clean after hot yoga? Posted: 13 Jul 2020 12:37 PM PDT Newbie here. I'm 28 and been doing hot yoga once a week for the last 3 weeks to supplement my bjj training. I've noticed that I am getting some acne on my face reminiscent of when I was on the high school swim team. I have rather large pores and if I don't do a good job of cleaning my skin I get acne pretty easily. I'm curious what others do to make sure they are clean after practice? I've been told the best thing to do for skin is take a hot shower directly after exercise. I'm not going to lie, I hate the heat and usually have to give myself 30 minutes to an hour after my session before I can get in a hot shower. What have you had the most success with? Don't be afraid to answer hot shower directly after, if that is the consensus then I'll just man up [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 13 Jul 2020 08:19 AM PDT I recently bought a new, longer mat that is very pretty and fits my body much better than my old one. However it is pretty slick, especially when I start to sweat during a session. It makes downward dog nearly impossible when my hands are slowly sipping further and further away. Anyone have any tips for this? I considered trying to "rough up" my mat (maybe with scissors or my fingernails?) but I don't want to rough it up only for it to still be slippery. Any tips welcome! | Posted: 13 Jul 2020 09:38 AM PDT This sequence has been coming up in my Down Dog app recently and I wanted some advice about what muscles to engage/strengthen in order to make this transition. I can hold crow just fine and I can drop into chaturanga from plank pretty easily, but I'm a bit lost as to how to get strong (or confident enough) to shoot from crow to chaturanga seamlessly. Any tips/tricks/modifications that will help me progress to this transition? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Best Poses to work on Core/Ab Strength Posted: 13 Jul 2020 03:28 PM PDT Hello fellow yogis! I've been practicing for about a year now, just working on a lot of the random basics and following flows provided a few of my local studios. Since being in quarantine, a lot of the flows I've been following are starting to get repetitive or not focusing on areas that I need some work in. I'm working on building a few personal flows to practice on my own, and my biggest block has been poses or variations that help build your core, or poses that work on your ab strength. I also have been trying to focus on flexibility, and stamina! Any recommendations are helpful!! [link] [comments] |
| How to find new yoga teachers? Posted: 13 Jul 2020 02:26 PM PDT Hi r/yoga - I had a couple of favorite teachers prior to COVID but since then many have changed their teaching schedules which don't work with mine. How do you find new teachers that you like without investing lots of $$ and 60-90min per class trying out new teachers? I'm starting to put together a spreadsheet of teachers I like and their schedules. [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 13 Jul 2020 01:06 PM PDT Hi all, it's my first time posting here so I hope this is compliant.. I'm just looking for advice on how to start doing inversions. I've practiced yoga for almost 15 years now but my inversions aren't going anywhere. I can't even manage to achieve a crow (which maybe doesn't even count as an inversion?). My core is very strong but I feel what is holding me back is a total lack of strength in my back and shoulder muscles. I don't know whether these muscles are actually fundamental to achieve inversions, but when I try them I just feel like I'm so weak in the shoulders and back, almost like they can't sustain me. Do you have any advice for improvement? [link] [comments] |
| Three breakthroughs during one practice Posted: 13 Jul 2020 01:03 AM PDT Hello everyone. Since yoga is the only thing keeping me sane during this difficult times I wanted to share with you some minor and some big breakthroughs I had in my practice yesterday. A little background (for anyone who needs encouragement in their practice): I started practicing yoga when I was 20. I was pretty consistent with studio practice for almost 5 years and doing ashtanga most of the time. But for some reason I was progressing really slowly both with building strength and flexibility and the more I practiced the more frustrated I was and I quit practicing when I got pregnant with my first because I had to be on bed rest. And then life happened and I stopped practicing for almost 4 years. And then I found DownDog app and got back in the groove, did awesome progress and got pregnant again. Again I had to stop practicing for health reasons but this time I didn't take 4 year long hiatus. Long story short I got back to regular practice on April 6th this year. I'm 3 months away from my 32nd birthday and I can finally say that I am at peace with myself and my practice benefits from it. I practice every other day for 35-45 minutes, depending on how much time I can steal for myself and it is mostly quick flow but once in a while I do an hour long practice with proper warm up and cool down and yesterday magic happened! For a while now I've felt myself more mentally centered and in tune with my body during my practice which allowed me to push myself more and explore my body's limits. 1st Breakthrough: Crow pose I've been able to do Crow for a long time, even before my first kid but yesterday I finally eased into Crow like it was my second skin. You know the feeling of "this right here is THE shit"? Well that was my Crow yesterday! 2nd Breakthrough: Prasarita Padottanasana Top of my head touched the ground without rounding my spine and without any kind of discomfort in my hips and hamstrings. I couldn't do this even when I thought I was at the top of my game years ago. 3rd Breakthrough: Standing hand to big toe My leg was fully extended, I felt stable and could focus on controlling the muscles to keep my leg up while keeping hips square. To someone it may seem like this is nothing big because mostly we see headstands and splits on social media and it can be discouraging on so many levels but this is a proof to me that my body will follow if my mind is at peace. | What are some of your favorite knee-friendly poses? Posted: 13 Jul 2020 10:59 AM PDT I injured my knee due to a cycling/IT band issue and found that it hurts to be on my knee or use it as a prop too much. Bonus question: do you know any poses that strengthen the gluteus medius? My doctor told me that will help with my IT band issue. [link] [comments] |
| Body image issues affecting my practise? Posted: 13 Jul 2020 07:46 AM PDT High everyone!! How are you!?!?!?! i was wandering please if anyone could shed some light on these, a couple of years ago I was diagnosed with something classed as incurable which is worst on my hands, lower arms and feet. I have been getting back into my practise but because I get hot and take off my long sleeved shirt and also practise with barefeet, I'm finding myself feeling down and discouraged and just bad tbh instead of how I used to feel after I finished, which was amazing!! I practise alone, so it isn't around others but it's because it;'s affected how I feel about my own body so when I practise I have to see it how it is now, which is what's getting me down. I used to have a nice relationship with my body where was very pleased with it but now it's the opposite Does anyone have please any tips?!!? thanks in advance!! :) [link] [comments] |
