| I’ve just learnt a valuable lesson...check your pose Posted: 24 Jul 2020 01:56 PM PDT So after around 60 practices at Yoga, I have just realised my downward dog is more like a dog after a bath! I noticed last night on a post a fellow Yogi in downward dog and hand/forearm placement was a lot different to how I think I look. Checked tonight and I'm at a 90• angle with hands/wrist and basically there is nothing downward at all about my pose. I'm irritated at myself for my total lack of awareness and also having a laugh at just how bad it looks. So tonight I tried the pose (the right way) and... I have a long way to go still. I am thinking I don't have the flex in my hips yet and can't raise bum enough to get legs straight or straighter. Does this sound about right? Any suggestions about how I could go about lifting my bum? Any vid suggestions? So moral of the story, home practicing alone can be hard, but check a mirror peeps 😂 [link] [comments] |

| Can yoga help my suddenly drooping butt/banana rolls? Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:37 PM PDT I'm 5'9", 128 lb, 40 year old woman. I do not want to lose weight. So over the past few months I've been out of work (yay Covid). I have worked on my feet all my adult life, predominantly bartending. I've gone from working 4-5 days to almost no work. I've recently realized my butt (especially around tail bone) is often sore. I sit more now than I ever have. I also sleep on my back so that doesn't help. And my posture is shit. Also just recently, there's a droop in my butt to the point that I can now feel it touching the back of my thighs. I hate it. I've had a slight banana roll already, and now there's more, both cheeks. I walk my dogs every day, anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes depending on weather. That's my only exercise of late. I've had all kinds of advice and I don't know what to do. Deadlifts? Squats? Bridges? Resistance bands? Stair master? I've heard squats aren't enough, and when I do them I often don't feel much in my tush, but in my thighs. I've dabbled in yoga over the years and an most inclined to do that. But would it be enough? Again, I don't want to lose any weight. What are my best options? I'll do whatever I can to get the quickest results/turn around this sore feeling! Thanks y'all!! [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 24 Jul 2020 01:27 PM PDT Hi! I really like listening to my own music while I practice, but I would love a guided flow. Does anyone know of any apps/online yoga options which allows me to layer my own playlists with a teacher's voice guiding my practice? Thanks in advance for the help! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:34 PM PDT Does anyone know of any in person yoga teacher tradings this fall, 2020? I was going to do a 200 hr YTT in the spring but it was cancelled. I'd really like to do one this fall, but the only ones I've been interested in are all online. [link] [comments] |
| Help. I am struggling scheduling yoga in my routine Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:03 PM PDT Hi, So I have a problem. I am a bit perfectionist and I wanted to make the most of my routine. I read that the perfect time to do yoga is right at the sunrise after waking up, emptying your bowels, and before eating. I am okay with that. The problem is I also wanted to workout in the morning but I can't seem to introduce yoga and workout in the morning.
I could also work out at the afternoon but I just don't feel I am too productive if I do that. If that is the only solution so be it. The problem is in summer the sun sets really late and I would have to mess up my dinner schedule and end up going to sleep a bit late. So I don't know how to solve this conflict. If you guys could help me out and guide I would appreciate it a lot. How bad is doing 1 or 2? Thanks a lot in advance :) [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 24 Jul 2020 06:47 AM PDT Hello everyone I started doing yoga 2 months ago but had to stop because after my first days practicing I've developed a sharp epigastric pain roaming left and right coupled Ith shortness of breath and difficulties to eat. Moving forward 1 month after I decided to start again (thinking this was coming from a virus or anxiety) and symptoms reappeared quickly. Went to a gastro who basically told me that I had diaphragm microtears caused by a strenuous exercise. I'm used to do weight lifting so I found it weird that it occurred twice. So far I did the basic sun salutation cycle and also the basic/revolved chair posture. If someone has some tips to prevent these kind of injuries or stories about it. Much appreciated! | Tips for staying motivated for an at home practice? Posted: 24 Jul 2020 01:37 AM PDT Practicing at a studio has always been my preferred place to flow- I like the accountability, community, and it gives me a boost to not give up. I find myself extra distracted, and it doesn't take much for me to give up kid practice (at home) and just quit my practice. Does anyone have any tips / advice that works for them in keeping up with + finishing a home practice? [link] [comments] |
| Thinking about getting into yoga, need pointers Posted: 24 Jul 2020 06:24 AM PDT So I'm a runner in high school (male if its relevant) and I have heard good things about yoga for strengthening and stretching. A alumni from my school runs for college (he's gone sub 4) and recommended it strongly. What types of yoga should I start with if I want to strengthen my core and back, and want to generally benefit for running? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 24 Jul 2020 06:21 AM PDT Yoga is very powerful but it is not what the world thinks about it. The world thinks yoga is some asanas, physical exercises and some pranayama, some breathing techniques. Now why are these physical exercises and breathing techniques good? For our physical well being. But this is not yoga. True yoga means yuj which means union. It is the union of our Soul with the Divine. It is like a SIM card connected to a satellite. So our Soul becomes conscious, in a state of super consciousness. We go beyond the physical consciousness and the subconsciousness, what we experience when our mind dreams when we sleep. We become superconscious, we can communicate with the Divine and we can experience God in the clouds, and the sky and the winds, the breeze and the seas and the trees. Yoga is that. It's being in a state of constant union. It's a cycle of four methods. Karma yoga (yoga of action), Bhakti yoga (yoga of devotion), Gyaana Yoga (Yoga of education and wisdom), Dhyana yoga(Yoga of meditation and silence). Life continues in the cycle of these four aspects and we are constantly connected with the Divine. This is really powerful because it liberates us from all misery and sorrow, and makes us live a life of Divine peace and joy. [link] [comments] |
