Yoga: [COMP] Yoga is for everyBODY! I’ve been doing yoga off and on for about 5 years. Really been practicing steadily since February. I’m finally able to hold my crow for more than 10 seconds! For a long time I was telling myself I was too chubby to do some poses but I worked past that! ❤️

    Need intermediate yoga online lessons

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:41 PM PDT

These days I have been mixing my YouTube yoga classes between Yoga with Adrienne and Five Parks Yoga. I like Yoga with Adrienne because of her attitude, production value and attention to detail when describing moves. The problem with her is that her classes have become too easy for me and are generally on the short side - basically I want more of a challenge. This is when I found Five Parks Yoga which I find quite challenging and a good length but her attention to detail, attitude and production value pale in comparison to Adrienne.

I am looking for suggestions for online classes that are on the intermediate side and have teachers that are as detailed and loving as Adrienne. I would prefer YouTube and am willing to pay for the classes if they are very good.

Best beginner yoga videos? Preferable focus on the chakras.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 07:47 PM PDT

Hi, I'm looking for some videos to follow along to do yoga at home, doesn't have to be absolute beginner but I'm not advanced. I'd like something with a focus on chakra meditation if you know of any :) Other than that, just anything good. I don't want yoga with adriene etc, something more focused on kundalini.

[PSA] Just in case someone else lacks the ability to make a fairly obvious connection, mats wear down

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:59 AM PDT

So for about 3 months now I have gradually begun to lose grip in basic poses, like downward dog, wild thing, and wheel. It's been quite annoying (and potentially wrecking!), so I have invested a small fortune in yoga socks, gloves, talcum powder to reduce palm sweat. I had no idea what was going on, I thought I was somehow getting... slimier.

Guys, it was the mat. It has been my sidekick for years and I never figured it would retire. Bought a Gaiam today, and lo and behold: my feet stayed in their position. In case someone is in my position!

    Backyard space?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 02:25 PM PDT

Do any of you have an outdoor/backyard space you practice in? What does it look like? How much space does it take up?

I'm thinking about building something and would love some inspiration.

    Has Yoga Helped your OCD?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 10:14 AM PDT

I am wondering if your Yoga Practice has helped your OCD/anxiety beyond just being a workout. I already workout and that helps but looking for something else that might benefit me more. Also I already go to therapy and take SSRIS so don't advise me to do therapy or Meds.

    Yoga recommendation for the elderly

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 06:42 AM PDT

    Hello all,

My step-father who is 72 years old is interested in trying out yoga for the first time. He was a professional bowler for most of his life and is in decent shape for his age (although he has a heart problem). He tries to stay active and one of the issues he has with his age is elasticity/flexibility, which to be honest, were not great even when he was young.

I mentioned to him that Yoga could help him in this regard and he's excited to try it out, but when I set out to search for something suitable for him I quickly realised I had no idea what would be best.

Does anyone have any online videos you could recommend for him? To summarise his condition:

    1. 72 year old male.
    2. Relatively healthy but history of heart disease.
    3. Use to be an athlete for most of his life.
    4. Very stiff body. Lacks flexibility/elasticity.
    5. Very excited to try out yoga.

    Thanks in advance!

    Namaste.

Looking for decent tight no slip but not constricting tank tops. Desperate for your help!

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 01:22 PM PDT

I hope this is allowed, I'm desperate, I also hope none of this is tmi either.

I've been looking with little luck, I hate bras. Sports bras included, I prefer a tight but not too tight tank/crop tank top to keep the ladies comfy and normal looking. But can't seem to find something that doesn't have a physical shelf and not a seemless basically non existent shelf. Im of tiny frame but with a disproportionately large 32d-f chest that has lower boob volume and they look very flat on top, so everything just digs in all the wrong places and pushes them up (this even happened with freaking tshirt bras, unlined, lightly lined, lightly padded, fabric with wire only) and made me look like a walking table, sports bras suck because of how tight they are, if I go medium they dont fit around my ribs, but if I go for small they dont fit either. They dig into my shoulders even completely loosened and dont always cover my chest around the sides all the way cause they're too tight and they end up looking like weird pancakes. So I need help.

The link I'm showing you, I love these tops. The straps are bullshit though after a few weeks of just handwashing I need to resew them tighter, but I dont want to have to do that often, and they're also not the most breathable, while they are like the most comfy thing I've worn. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find tops like this, sturdier straps though, but where theres virtually no support but can still keep the gals from falling out?

type of top im going for

Tldr. Need help finding breathable comfy tops that keep the gals from falling out but still have like zero support, cause any kind of bra really sucks.

    Yoga without the yoga

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:51 PM PDT

    Hi.

I'm a born-again Christian that used to practice Yoga before giving my life to Christ. Back in the day, i remember practicing yoga and loving the meditative and body awesomeness associated with Yoga. However, after meeting Christ i can't look away from the pagan and polytheistic context behind yoga poses and don't feel comfortable practicing it.

I am looking to do body exercises / stretching without the yoga background. Can anyone refer me to such resources?

Thank you for respecting my religious beliefs and wishes.

Suggestions for short(er) beginner yoga videos for anxiety, mood, and general flexibility?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:22 PM PDT

I know there are multiple things in the subject and that due to poses and types it may not really be the best fit but I have a kid on the way and I've been having anxiety issues. So I started doing yoga upon waking on my back deck and while I've found a few videos that work, I wondered if y'all could suggest some short (30 minutes or so) videos that would work great for early morning yoga?

Just had my first asthma attack in literal years from trying to do a yoga class with my mask on. FML.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 01:27 AM PDT

I'm so fucking upset right now. One (1) yoga studio near me is allowed to be open because they used to be a literal garage—the entire front of the studio opens onto the sidewalk. They're operating at extremely reduced capacity (no more than nine students per class), everyone has to bring their own mats and props and wear a mask at all times. AND their rates have gone up to $35 a class (!!!) to try and make up for what they've been losing over the last few months. This was my first time trying to take an in-person class in the New Realitytm , but working out at home is just NOT my jam, so I was excited.

Importantly, I decided to wear my real heavy-duty N95 mask and not my flimsy cloth one from Target. Like the title says, I have asthma, and I've been wearing it whenever I leave the house without issue. The cloth one doesn't feel like it does much of anything, and I'm taking this shit seriously.

Physically, I felt great. The poses were much easier than I thought they'd be, given how long it's been since I did a proper class, which made me really happy—guess my at-home workouts haven't been a TOTAL fail, at least. But about a third of the way through the class, I just couldn't breathe anymore. The mask wasn't letting my exhales out fast enough; I started to feel claustrophobic, like I was hyperventilating. It's a familiar sensation, but one I've learned to handle over the years—I've never ONCE had to use my inhaler in a yoga class, which is part of why I like yoga. I'm usually able to calm my breathing down before it gets to the point of no return, but with the mask, I just couldn't do it.

I had to take child's pose for the entire left side of a series just to catch my breath, so now I'm all lopsided. Once I started feeling okay again, I jumped back in, but the feeling just came back. I had to grab my mat and run out halfway through my $35 class and go home, because I didn't even bring an inhaler with me. I was expecting to come out with that lovely zen post-yoga glow, and instead I'm upset and buzzing off the medicine I had to take.

And now I'm just sad and frustrated and mourning our old lives all over again. Guess it's half-assed at-home video workouts for me for the foreseeable future...

CorePower charging me for cancelled membership

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 01:01 PM PDT

Hi all, just wanted to let you know that if you're a previous member of CorePower Yoga, you might want to check your bank statements. I just noticed that CorePower charged me in June, March, and February for a membership that I cancelled at the end of 2019.

I'm going to email them asking them to refund me and if that doesn't work, I'm contacting my bank.

How to respectfully and properly practice yoga as a white person

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 03:31 PM PDT

Hi all, I'm new to reddit so all apologies if this isn't the right place or I goof up in some other way.

I started doing yoga in March through a youtube channel called Yoga with Kassandra and to my astonishment, after only a few months my whiplash injury (which had persisted for 3 years) has almost completely healed. My muscles have regained strength so I can now move normally (beforehand I couldn't look up at the sky and then bend my head back down to look forward without the help of my hands), I don't need to stretch 2 hours every morning to move freely, and the general stress of having constant pain has gone away. Needless to say, this has helped my mental state greatly as well. On top of it all, I have some other mental health issues that yoga has helped me to focus on and work through. I can't believe how beneficial it has been.

I've learned recently that yoga is a much larger practice that includes spirituality and meditation, and that I've actually only been practicing the asana portion (from what I've gathered so far from my reading). I would be interested in learning the yoga lifestyle if it is appropriate, though I am in a place right now where I can't afford to spend money or travel to access qualified teachers. After several google searches, I've found conflicting articles about how to approach yoga as someone who is an outsider to its culture. I also live in a predominantly white place with no yoga teachers I can find who would have historical ties to its practice. My question after all this is, how can I respectfully practice yoga as a white person? I believe in its healing powers for the mind, body, and soul, and I want to make sure that I honour it, its culture, and its history in return!

    Experiences of Advanced Yoga Practitioners

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 01:16 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I was wondering what the experiences are of advanced students of Yoga with the other branches of Patanjali's Yoga. Right now I am reading the book Light on Life by Iyengar and he is talking about the other branches of Yoga and them being connected and part of a whole. Has anybody dipped into the further steps of Yoga? And what are your experiences if you don't mind sharing?

    Eagle came crashing down

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 10:05 PM PDT

So I've alternated between doing power yoga, sculpt yoga, and running almost every single day during quarantine. Was feeling so in shape and proud of myself! Decided to add in one last eagle pose near the end of my practice yesterday and disclocated my kneecap of the leg I was standing on. Totally collapsed and fell on the floor in so much pain. Luckily it popped back in, but I'm pretty immobile atm and totally discouraged. Anyone ever had this happen before, or have any suggestions for knee-friendly workouts while I heal!? Thanks!
