| i sort of meditated for the first time and i am HOOKED Posted: 01 Aug 2020 05:15 PM PDT i tried the brian weiss past life regression meditation because i saw it trending and i just thought it was interesting and WOW. during the first part just focusing on your breath and body i felt a vibrating sensation. it kind of felt like my feet were swaying back and forth as if i was floating in the ocean. this feeling made me so nervous at first but once i got past that mental block and let go.... total bliss. i can't wait to explore meditation deeper!!! needless to say it was an amazing first experience. | Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:03 PM PDT I've been meditating for 5 years now. I do the transcendental meditation developed by Maharishi Mahesh. Initially it helped me a lot but over the last 2 years, it has plunged me into a depression about the world. I feel ill-at-ease in social settings, find idle banter unfulfilling and my heart constantly longs for an elsewhere that's probably just a more evolved state of mind. It feels like a slow moulting, an emergence into something or a resetting of energies in the body. Any long-time meditators care to relate their experiences? I would be grateful to know I am not alone. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 01 Aug 2020 09:05 PM PDT I'm trying to start meditating again, and this time I think I'm going to try a different approach. I want to start listening to what other meditators have to say about the practice, and I'm wondering what podcasts I should listen to. Also, for those who stopped meditating and then started again, what did you guys do that was different from your previous experience that made it more successful ? [link] [comments] |
| How do you know when you're done? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:18 PM PDT Hi! I've been meditating daily for almost a year year, and on/off before that. One particular thing I'm still struggling with is how long I sit for and how I end my session. I'm trying to be more mindful about it, so I'm hoping to get some inspiration. How do you know when you're done for that session? Do you set a duration goal beforehand and always use a timer to let you know when your goal is met? Do you just stop when you feel like you're done (if so, what's that feeling like?)? When you're getting so distracted that you can't go on? Anything else? When you decide to end the session, or when the timer goes off, how do you end it? Any specific "routine"? A breathing technique, affirmation, chant, anything? [link] [comments] |
| Does using a tick tok clock for meditation sound right? Posted: 02 Aug 2020 01:10 AM PDT I have been doing meditation recently and want use a mobile app for a tick tok clock, with sound every second. I try to focus on that sound and remove other thoughts. Is this way right? How useful it can be? [link] [comments] |
| new to meditation — confusion? Posted: 02 Aug 2020 12:54 AM PDT hi, i'm new to meditation and wanted to ask about certain... sensations? feelings? i felt while i was meditating yesterday. it's a little difficult to put into words, but i was hoping someone could explain what i felt and whether it was normal (i hope it was?) my brother and i meditated together. i had music playing and emptied my mind while sitting cross-legged. for the first few minutes, i think, everything was fine and i felt calm and at peace. soon, however, i sort of saw? or rather felt? that time and space were nonexistent. it makes no sense but it was like... i could sort of see this white space in my mind expanding infinitely and shrinking back into nothing repeatedly. i couldn't do anything about it, the space just kept on changing infinitely and i felt like i was lost and ungrounded... at times i felt so disoriented and scared i opened my eyes just to make sure i was still there. every time i closed my eyes again, however, the feeling came back. perhaps this is normal and i just wasn't used to it? also, i don't know why, but after the 20 minutes, i repeatedly said to my brother "i can't see when my eyes are closed." i KNOW that's normal, but i don't know—i felt like normally closing my eyes means i see the darkness of my closed eyelids, but immediately after meditating i simply lost my ability to see when i closed my eyes. the feeling of space expanding and shrinking continued for a few hours every time i shut my eyes. looking back now, it sounds ridiculous, but i did feel a little creeped out by the experience. it's hard to put the feeling into words but i just wanted to put this here. is it normal to see/feel the things i did? any advice and information would be greatly appreciated, thank you! Procrastination is just a thought perceived in consciousness. You are doing what you are meant to be doing in this present moment so you would awaken to the highest truth of yourself in the most efficient effective and wonderful way. Procrastination is a way of the ego to make you feel bad for existing the way god (the universe) wants you to exist.
Mental fog is just a thought perceived in consciousness. What is mental fog really? It is just when we are identified with the thought that says "I am experiencing mental fog" or something like that, it is not true, it is just a thought believed in. No mental fog ever appeared nor was it captured nor can anyone prove it really exists. It is only a thought/emotion/sensation perceived in consciousness that is believed in.
That is just a feeling perceived in consciousness. It doesn't mean anything. How can the infinite be trapped? You can't trap the infinite. It is the infinite. Nothing can block the infinite. It is only because you believe in the feeling "I feel like I am trapped, blocked somehow" that you perceive reality in this way. If you were to put it aside completely, and simply be present, be aware of being aware, you would be clear of it. But we are not doing this, we let it persist by not facing what it truly is. We are completely identified with it and have no space to perceive it as it truly is.
Everything is exactly how it should be. Don't focus on external things, find the eternal internally and everything will fall into place. These thoughts perceived in consciousness are nothing at all.
You see, this is just a thought perceived in consciousness, it is not true, there is space to perceive it, otherwise you couldn't say "I am wasting my time", first you are aware of this thought, and only then you speak it. So be aware of being aware, there is nothing to "overcome" because it is an illusion in the first place. There is nothing to control and you don't even exist truthfully. There is only awareness and it is not personal and it is not from this world. It is holy. Simply bask in it, appreciate it and honor it, you have found the eternal you don't need to seek for anything temporary in the external no more.
Yes, and the wondering all over the place is also perceived, is that which is perceiving itself wondering all over the place? Simply shift your attention towards that which is aware of it, instead of what it is aware of.
Again, this is only a feeling perceived in consciousness that is believed in. It is ONLY A FEELING, it can't block what you are. What you are is perceiving the feeling. What you are is perceiving the block. The answer is not in what is behind the block, but what is perceiving the block itself. The block can't block the perceiving because the perceiving is perceiving the block. Perceiving can't be blocked.
Just feelings perceived in consciousness. This "I" that feels all these things is not true at all and it is not what you truly are. You are that in which it all appears, even interpretation is perceived, there is an awareness of some feeling but it isn't necessarily "helpless", that is only an interpretation of the mind to suit its projections and to make you unconscious. Do not be so quick to believe all these identifications. You are the vessel itself, not the content appearing in it. Be aware of the experience of being aware in this present moment. | Yesterday I finally experienced bliss from meditation Posted: 01 Aug 2020 07:02 AM PDT Yesterday I finally meditated after a break after a very long, tiring, and stressful week. I opted for a body scan focus and just lay down, flat on my back, arms comfortably spread out. Because I was so agitated mentally, I used a guided meditation (Insight Timer ftw). Near the end of the meditation the focus was on whole body, from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. And suddenly I felt this state wash over me of joy, a sense of wholeness, and peace. It was amazing. I've had lots of reactions from meditation, but that might be the first time I've experienced bliss like that. [link] [comments] |
| Meditation recommendation for confusion and lack of focus? Posted: 02 Aug 2020 01:55 AM PDT Hey guys! So I am going through a rough patch right now and I started meditation like few weeks ago. It's been great and all but I wanted to look more into specific meditations. So I've been using calm which is great but it doesn't have much guided meditation and I'm still a beginner so I tend to dose off so I want more guided meditation options. I have pretty bad anxiety and meditation has been helping me with calming. But i heard it could help you visualize and organize your thoughts and emotions more. I am pretty confused with my emotions and thoughts So can any of you guys recommend me some guided meditations that could help me reaffirm and reorganize my thoughts and emotions? I am already talking to my therapist btw and we haven't really started on anything yet since I just started the session so no worries! I just want to get back into my life again as fast as I can. | How Fasting Helps in Deeper Meditation Posted: 01 Aug 2020 06:19 PM PDT According to modern science, it is known that the air pressure on our planet varies to extreme limits on both the new moon (Amavasya) and the full moon (Purnima) day. This is because of the orbital path combination of the sun, moon and earth. This can be observed by the change in the nature of the tidal waves on the new moon and full moon days. The waves are very high and rough, but from the next day onwards, the waves become calm, an indication that the pressure has also receded. Now, based on this fact, the significance of Ekadashi fasting can be explained in 2 ways: 1) According to science, it takes about 3-4 days for the food that we eat today to reach our brain. Now, if we eat light/fast on Ekadashi days, that intake will reach the brain correspondingly on the New moon/full moon day. On both of these days, the earth pressure is at its maximum, thus leading to an imbalance in everything, including ones thought process. So, if the input to the brain is at a minimum, the chances of the brain indulging in any wayward activity due to the high-pressure imbalance also become minimum. 2) Another explanation for the Ekadashi fasting is that compared to any other day of the moon cycle, the atmospheric pressure is the lowest on the Ekadashi days. Thus, this is the best time to fast and cleanse the bowel system. If we fast on any other day, the high pressure/strain may damage our system. Thus, it is advisable that after fasting on the Ekadashi, on the immediate next day (Dwadashi), we get up early and eat as soon as possible. As per both the above theories, the fasting practice on the Ekadashi days has a strong scientific base. People who observe the fast are asked to stay away from all types of grains and to have a light diet of nuts, milk, fruits, etc. Fasting gives the system a rest. The physiological system may become overworked due to a little overeating or indiscrimination in the diet. Thus the fortnightly Ekadashi fasting gives the system a chance to catch up. We know that the digestive system draws the blood circulation towards the digestive organs. Therefore blood circulation to the head is decreased once the food is taken: so we feel sleepy. Thus the observance of Ekadashis helps us recharge our brain and mind keeping us more alert, sharp, focused and more aware. The fortnightly Ekadashi fasting accompanied by healthy eating improves insulin responsiveness, lowers blood cholesterol and prolongs life span. It helps improve the mental stability of people suffering from anxiety and depression. It also detoxifies the body, cleanses the blood and improves the functioning of kidneys and liver. It is amazing how the ancient Vedic Indians devised this method to keep ourselves fit and free from any negative influences! As well as when your mind is balance you could be in deep meditation. Just start fasting on these days at least for 3 months for subtle and deep experience ! [link] [comments] |

| How can I meditate when I sleep? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:50 PM PDT I have no guide, only myself. I understand that I can find the answer to these questions within myself but I also understand the arrogance in not reaching out for help. I'm 21 years old, and started meditating years ago. I meditate whenever the thought occurs, or doesn't occur, depending on who you ask. However, I cant seem to relax in my sleep. I've had "Night terror syndrome" since I can remember and it's always been my true obstacle in life. Meditation has leaked into my sleep but I cant seem to fully embrace it. Just once I would like to just sleep and not dream. I would like to wake up feeling the way I went to sleep. I have been able to achieve this few times but sometimes it feels as though it's the final step for me in this life. To keep it simple, I want to feel the wholeness I feel when i'm awake, but also when i'm asleep. The further I get in my waking meditation, the more it feel as though the person I watch in my dreams is not truly me. As if my dreams where doubt pushed back from the day. If the true me is eternal, then surely I can push doubt back eternally. [link] [comments] |

| Fears that persist and how to go beyond and realize the true nature of our being Posted: 01 Aug 2020 02:00 PM PDT See, this fear persists only because you are resisting it. You avoided this fear, tried to avoid feeling it completely, instead of perceiving it with detachment and embracing it for what it truly is, merely a thought/emotion/senstation perceived in consciousness. We are made to believe we should be afraid of these things, that they hurt sooooo much, that it is so scary. It is not really scary. It is not about braveness. You are life itself. What you really are embracing is your own self. When you shy away from guilt/fear etc then you believe in it to be something it is not. It is not here to hurt you, it is here so that healing can happen. How to make healing happen? Be aware of being aware. When you are aware of the experience of being aware, you are aware of the sense of presence, this presence is impersonal and calm, detached, it is ever-presently here and it is that which is aware of experiencing. It is what you truly are. It is the only real "healing" that can occur. It is the healing of God/Universe. So currently you identify as "someone who is not experiencing pure consciousness" There is an awareness of this identification, otherwise you couldn't say "I am not experiencing pure consciousness". Meaning, there is an awareness of the identification, it is there before the identification, and it is simply perceiving, simply aware, it is not entangled with the identification, it does not believe itself to "not experience pure consciousness" because that is only a thought perceived in pure consciousness. So, there is this thought that we believe to be ourselves "I am not experiencing pure consciousness", itself is perceived in pure consciousness, the reason it is not experiencing pure consciousness is because it is a thought. You (pure consciousness) believe the thought that is perceived in you "I am not experiencing pure consciousness" but that is literally just a thought perceived in the already pure consciousness that is ever-present. Pure consciousness is not something that comes and goes, it is the thought "I am not experiencing pure consciousness" that comes and goes. Which is the greater, the ever-present pure consciousness that is aware of the thought "I am not experiencing pure consciousness" or the thought that itself is perceived in the pure consciousness? How can a thought experience pure consciousness? A thought can't experience anything. That which is experiencing is the presence of the absolute itself, it is not a thought. When we identify ourselves to be the thought, then we perceive reality as if we were that thought. It is only because you believe yourself to be this thought, that you experience life in this way, it is not true at all, completely false. It is so clear. Literally "I am not experiencing pure consciousness" is a thought pretending to be what you are (pure consciousness) and you are putting the power of your belief unto the thought instead of simply recognizing that pure consciousness is all there is and without it the thought "I am not experiencing pure consciousness" wouldn't be perceived in the first place. Nothing can be without pure consciousness. Yet pure consciousness can be alone. How? Be aware of being aware. Be aware of the experience of being aware in this present moment. Rest in that. If the attention drifts unto some effect in consciousness (thought, emotion, sensation etc) then gently shift back the attention onto the experience of being aware in this present moment. It is a habit of conditioning to never face the pure consciousness that is ever-present, because that will mean the death of the ego. The ego knows pure consciousness is its death, and so it resists it. The person might not even know they are resisting it and why, but the ego somehow knows it is due for death in this life. Lets see right now, what is the ego truly? It doesn't really exist only as a thought, or as some kind of function of the mind which is very personal and psychological. We were conditioned to believe ourselves to be this personal and psychological mind, but it is not true, nor does it have any power over the pure consciousness that is. It is only when we believe ourselves to be the mind that it gets its power. It is the power of your own belief. The mind has no power at ALL. It is a FUNCTION within pure consciousness. A function can't control the pure consciousness. It can believe it controls something, it is not true. It is only another object in consciousness. It is not in the same dimension you could say. Pure consciousness the perceiving is beyond everything is perceived. It is the greater. You are that. [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 01 Aug 2020 11:12 PM PDT So today I woke up early to go out with family although I slept a little bit late last night. After coming back to home with family this morning , I couldn't help but take a nap in my room. This nap dived so into my sleep that I get into my sleep too fast and have sleep paralysis a few times when sleeping.(I'm already used to it as at the past I used to have like 3 to 4 times of sleep paralysis a week , but starting from this year until today there's none.) So after a few times of sleep paralysis attack I'm basically immuned to it and continued sleeping. It is like I slept so well and got into my subconcious mind. I could see my past self , the little bad habit I have , how I get angry at stuff so easily(shown precisely what am I doing and how I get angry of it) ,and how I stick with lust at the past. Maybe it is because I started meditating everyday for 3 weeks now , sometimes I do self reflection while meditating , so maybe that's why my dream is showing me how my past self behave. But of course these issues were all coming into the goodside and started changing after meditating(except for lust as I can't help but release myself after dreaming about sexual contents , but what improved is how rarely I fap now). So my conclusion is is this the result of self reflecting while meditating? I'm more aware how am I in a person at the past is now, and also how much progress I've improved after meditation. | What's your meditation routine? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:51 PM PDT Ive been looking for a meditation routine recently. Usually i just lay down and focus on my body and how grateful i am to be healthy and not in an awful situation. How grateful i am to have all of my limbs, my sight, my hair, to not be mentally ill etc. I usually do this each day before bed and on car rides. I'll continue to do this, but I'd also like a routine ex: deep breaths to get settled in, body scan, gratefulness, etc. So what are your routines? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:15 PM PDT As I was meditating tonight I saw a glowing dark purple/indigo color. It seemed to be the outline of a head, a face. It kept moving around, like it was dancing. I have been trying to do some research to figure it out but I haven't found anything besides information relating to the chakras. I cannot make out what this means. Does anyone have any sort of ideas? [link] [comments] |
