Random old memories returning when I’m in meditation.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 08:42 PM PDT

I meditate an hour a day, in 2x 30 min sessions and I notice around the 20 min mark old memories of childhood return that I completely forgot about consciously. This literally makes me feel like our brains store everything, and if we can just relax and be completely calm, and in the moment, we have far superior memory recall. I know research confirms that, but it becomes so much more apparent when in a deep relaxed state. Hang on there's someone knocking at my door... hrjdjskfmvkdkskdk .... hello? This is the fbi, if another one of you makes a post like this, we will know.

    Meditated for 2 hours today.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 02:59 PM PDT

Was feeling depressed and said screw it. Meditated for 5 mins, that turned into 20 minutes and so on.

No more clutter in the mind.

    Have a good day.

I just finished Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now, wanting to deepen my spirituality and I'm very glad I did

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 02:31 PM PDT

The book was recommended to me by my therapist and I everytime I was reading it I was weirdly at peace. It spoke about the things I was feeling during meditation and explained the things I didn't understand. Here are some quotes I found really interesting or full of wisdom. Enjoy and I hope it brings you peace as well. 1. Glimpses of love and joy or short moments of deep peace which occur whenever a gap occurs in the stream of thought. 2. Whereas before you dwelt in time and paid brief visits to the Now, have your dwelling place in the Now and pay brief visits to past and future when required to deal with the practical aspects of your life situation. 3. The compulsion arises because the past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfillment in whatever form. Both are illusions. 4. Past and future obviously have no reality of their own. Just as the moon has no light of its in are past and future only pale reflections of the light, power and reality of the eternal present. 5. Once you have disidentified from your mind, whether you are right or wrong makes no difference to your sense of self at all, so the forcefully compulsive and deeply unconscious need to be right, which is a form of violence, will no longer be there. 6. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry - all forms of fear - are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence. 7. When you act out of present moment awareness, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care and love - even the most simple action. 8. The collective egoic mind is the most dangerously insane and destructive entity ever to inhabit this planet. 9. Listening to the silence immediately creates stillness inside you. 10. Please endeavor to feel your inner body as you read or listen. 11. There are many ways to create a gap in the incessant stream of thought. This is what meditation is all about. 12. Paying attention to outer silence creates inner silence : the mind becomes still. A 13. The compulsion to do, and the tendency to derive your sense of self worth and identity from external factors such as achievement, is an inevitable illusion as long as you are identified with the mind. 14. Things and conditions can give you pleasure, but they will also give you pain. Thing and conditions can give you pleasure, but they cannot give you joy. 15. Buddhist monk: "All that arises passes away. This I know." (I have learned to offer no resistance to what is; I have learned to allow the present moment to be and to accept the impermanent nature of all things and conditions. Thus I have found peace) 16. I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them cats.

If I were to read it again I'd probably find more, but I'm too eager to start with Alan Watts works.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 01:28 AM PDT

i'm a beginner and i've been meditating for 10 minutes a day , usually at night since it's more peaceful with some frequency videos on youtube. the past two days i've been experiencing some difficulty while breathing. it was so bad today that i almost broke down so i had to stop meditating. does anyone know what i could do to improve my breathing while meditating? before i wouldn't think much of it but it's constantly in my mind where it's hard to focus now

    How do you meditate personally?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 06:38 PM PDT

I like to lay down flat on my back, and listen to guided meditation or meditation music.

I usually do 15 minutes per session.

    Few times a week ish.

    What about you?

Is it impossible to achieve true ego dissolution and stay alive?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:41 PM PDT

Ego is our sense of self. When we feel hungry, we know that the food must be fed to our mouths, not to anyone else to alleviate it.

Ego is like our compass, that separates our body from the rest of reality. How is it possible to continue to live and communicate if our sense of self is completely gone?

How do I get into it

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 07:14 PM PDT

Hello all!! I've been trying to do some research but I can't seem to understand so I have some questions

    1. How do I meditate properly when you're afraid of silence?
    2. Is exercising important at all?
    3. Can someone explain chakras and stuff in that nature?
    4. How can I get connected with my spiritual family?
    5. How to properly manifest and set good intentions for things?
    6. How do crystals work? Where should I get them?

One important thing I learned after 2 years of practising meditation

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 10:46 AM PDT

It's been around 2 years since I started meditating(mindfulness m.) and many things that I expected did NOT happen, such as: - being a super calm person - not getting irritated by people or things - having a great focus all the time - having my mind free of thoughts throughout the whole meditation There are probably more things, but these are some that come to my mind right now.

BUT, two months ago I realized one thing. I was walking home one night and suddenly I felt lonely and sad. But, for the first time I looked at it objectively and said to myself: "These are just temporary feelings that are normal for every human being, there is no need to go deeper in thought about it. Feel everything, but know that soon it will pass. These feelings do not represent you." Soon I forgot about it, and after 15 minutes I realized that I am feeling quite okay. I took me a long time to realize that meditation was useful to me. Many times I felt like I wasn't going anywhere and that I didn't see any benefits. But now I realize how helpful it actually is. This is probably something many of you know already, but some of us are slow learners :)

(Not saying that you should ignore you feelings, but sometimes mind plays tricks on us and we can go to some dark places without any reason, if we let our mind wander too much)

    Meditation Retreat?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 08:59 PM PDT

Hi guys, I'm new to this sub so I apologise if this question has been asked before....

Have any of you ever been on a meditation retreat? Where would you recommend going?

I've never been able to successfully meditate, and I'm very interested in attending one of those week long retreats that have been mentioned in some of the mindfulness books I've read recently.... When all the travel restrictions lift, of course.

    Thanks for the info!

    What is meditation?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 11:38 PM PDT

This question might seem simple, but I'm having a hard time finding the answer for it.

I know that in essence, it's just silencing your mind and being conscious but what I am asking is what is the method for it?

I have read many articles, but I'm still quite unsure.

Is guided meditation better or unguided? Is guided meditation, meditation at all? Is music better or not? Can 5 minutes be considered meditation? Is pranayama/ breathing exercises meditations? What about body scans, how often should I do it? What kind of meditation should I do? There are so many!!

I'm really confused and overwhelmed so, answers would really help me.

PS - Please don't tell me it's up to you because I don't know what's good for me.

Do you find that caffeine helps, hinders, or is neutral to your meditation?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 01:54 PM PDT

I'm wondering if my daily coffee consumption is contributing to overthinking and difficulty focusing. What do you think?

    How do I begin meditating?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 11:22 AM PDT

    Hello all,

Meditation is something I've been trying to start for a long time but what has prevented me is that, well, I don't really know where to start.

I use headspace and I like it, but I've heard it's not really good in the long term for results.

Are there any books out there that you would recommend or tips on how I can get started? Thanks in advance.

    My Meditation Experience

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 10:48 AM PDT

I started meditating on a daily basis two months back. A few days ago, I had my first surreal experience where in the middle of my meditation, I could feel the energy in my body moving towards my body. My hands and legs became restless and it was a very fulfilling experience. I felt like I had woken up from sleep even though it was late at night and I was about to sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? I would love to hear your stories and experiences

What are these feelings of radiating, pulsing, throbbing, and unconditional love during meditation?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 11:04 AM PDT

I have been doing a meditation where I ask "Who am I?" and "Who is the knower of this experience?" over and over again. I get to a point where I feel pleasant vibrations and pulsing radiating in my mid/upper and neck. My skull tips rhythmically forward and back, eyes twitch laterally, and have feeling of extreme love. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and have any insight into what is going on physiologically and neurologically? And also what type of state this might be.

    Where do you all meditate?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:46 AM PDT

Do you have a specific spot you like? I have a little cushion on my floor by my window. If it's warm out I like to go in the grass. Opening my eyes to the warm winds and beautiful trees always makes me smile
