Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.
    • We are not medical professionals. If something hurts and it doesn't go away within a week's rest, see one!

    Enjoy!

    Posture, flexibility, and deadlifts.

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:14 PM PDT

    Hi everyone.

I have a very important question!

This is my posture when I sit down. I lean forward and my mid back is rounded. It takes an active effort for me to sit up straight.

I also have VERY tight hamstrings, hip flexors, calves, glutes, and quads according to my PT. He wants me to stretch a lot daily.

When I do a third world squat, I can squat to depth no problem, but I can't seem to keep my back flat and I have to lean forward or I lose balance.

Coincidentally, on deadlifts, my back rounds when I get into the correct starting position where the bar is over midfoot.

My question is if I keep stretching and focus on doing third world squats every day, will this improve my posture and my back position on the deadlift? It is preventing me from lifting heavier.

    Thanks.

    Good universal stretching time?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:20 AM PDT

Is there some amount of time for each stretch that's good to make sure I get enough out of it, like hold each stretch for 30 seconds, or does it vary too much from stretch to stretch?

Need help getting back into flexibility

Advice on getting back into flexibility stretching after a long while

I've never been super amazing at Flexibility, but I was never the worst. So this year, I've managed to injure myself in the gym. After some time of not being able to train and move to my full potential, I am now as stiff as a rock everywhere, particularly the muscles associated with the injury, My physio who is managing the injuries keeps reminding me to go do something such as hot yoga or find a stretch routine on YouTube or something to open back up. She has recommend me some stretches as well, however the responsibility is obviously on my shoulders. I found this mobility routine by Tom Merrick which actually looks decent.

However I feel a little lost and overwhelmed. The injury has gotten so much better, I thought I would be happy once it reached this stage of healing, but now I'm all sad about being a stiff rock and not having the fluidity and flexibility of the past. Maybe I'm just overthinking and need to shut up and stretch.

I'm a little lost on how to get started and how to stay committed. Obviously some pain is to be expected when you stretch but I get a little scared of pain: probably mentally due to the injury. Any advice on staying committed as well as lifestyle factors would be appreciated.
