| Thoughts on The Midnight Gospel Posted: 17 Sep 2020 10:16 AM PDT Maybe I'm being a bit of a sap here, but I really love this show. I feel like this show is able to take you by the hand on a tour of your own mind and explain your problems to you in a different perspective. Sometimes it's poignant, sometimes it's encouraging, but it never ceases to deliver a beautiful message. I love Duncan Trussell and I hope he makes more things like this. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Sep 2020 06:43 PM PDT "Where am I?" Ask yourself the question as you run. Don't expect the answer to be handed to you! Investigate your experience as you push your body to its limits. Where is the I? In the soles of your feet? The beating heart? Definitely not in the head. Can you even feel the shape of your head? Are you a single point in the grand vista of your vision? Or is vision also contained within the I? You may be looking meaningfully at the sky searching for an answer, and perhaps something mundane such as the traffic lights will draw your glance. That red, amber or green exists within you and not "outside" in the "real" world. In fact all colours; the blue of the sky, the green of the leaves, the grey of the tarmac, are your subjective experience. As are the abstract concepts of the sky, leaves and tarmac. And what about that sound you just heard? Does it originate over there and travel to you here, as a matter of experience? Or does it simply appear and hint at the extent of your awareness? "Where am I in all of this?" "Where am I?" [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:38 PM PDT I've realized when I start to overthink that it feels like a never ending stream of thoughts. But I know that eventually it'll go out, there will be period of calmness and peace. Overthinking has drove the majority of my life it wasn't until I got into meditation and mindfulness culture/thinking that I realized this. I try to make a regular habit out of meditation, it's an excellent way to start my morning. Recently I've been stressing over college and when that happens I stop what I'm doing and just watch my breath and practice self love. Am I the worlds best meditator? No. Am I completely in a state of awareness of the present moment? No. But I've enjoyed the changes in my thinking that's happened and plan to continue doing so for years to come :) [link] [comments] |
| help, something crazy happened in my session Posted: 17 Sep 2020 05:27 PM PDT I was meditating, when my body became heavy and I could not feel it. Then all of a sudden, about 15 min later, I could feel I was not breathing anymore and I could literally feel myself die and I could not feel my body or air or existence itself. I felt a peace unlike something I have ever known and I remember it like I was moving on from this life. I did not set out to do this and it is freaking me out because now I am obsessed with this feeling of death. I have been meditating for years and this has never happened to me. what happened??? | Letting yourself get caught in thoughts. Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:42 PM PDT I noticed just how at times you can rest in a state of just awareness where no thoughts come in. At the same time as you try to focus on the breath, you can start thinking and then keep yourself in that thought as a form of rest from the focusing on the breath. Also, I know shouldn't rest in thought just thought it was an interesting little thought anyway. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Sep 2020 07:28 PM PDT If so, did you get anything out of it? Or is it just a good way to go mad dude from boredom? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Sep 2020 06:33 AM PDT I tried Wim Hof breathing technique and god oh god, i never had such a feeling of euphoria, peace, energy rush and laugher after a spiritual practice. The one I tried, can be found on youtube, guided wim hof breathing, it goes like that Round 1:
Round 2 (where it gets ''hard'':
Round 3.
The guided breathing technique video can be easily found on youtube (11 min or so) It is, absolute bliss to surrender and trust your body. The tingling and surge of energy and the awarness required to just keep pushing, is simply devine. I never laughed so much, felt so good and so energised then after doing this stuff. Anybody tried this before? I'm curious, what do you think of it?for those who are going to try this, teel me how it went! Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did! edit : i linked the video for you guys : https://youtu.be/tybOi4hjZFQ [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 18 Sep 2020 01:44 AM PDT So what I'll do is focus on my breath until a thought comes up to distract me. I will disengage and just watch the thought flow by, and once the thought is over, I'll return to my breath. So do I do this, or - Do I end the thought the second it comes up and return to my breath right away? [link] [comments] |
| Dharana (focusing the mind) techniques loose their effect as I get used to them. Posted: 18 Sep 2020 01:39 AM PDT I recently began practicing a technique where I position my fingers specifically on my face and put my thumbs in my ears, and buzz like a bee on each breath (It becomes quite loud in my head because of the thumbs in ears). Basically it's supposed to force thoughts out of your head and bring your focus to this loud noise. At first it worked out fantastically, it felt almost impossible not to focus on it (because it was loud and filled my head). I had never been able to focus and empty my mind so effectively, and I felt really calm and focused afterwards. My experience tho, with this and also other techniques, is that I quickly get used to them, and then I can't focus on them very well, because it's like they're just happening. Dr. K teaches the technique around 30:30 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvq48pfJa9w&ab_channel=HealthyGamerGG I experience this with pretty much any technique I try for longer periods, so I tend to search for gradually more grounding techniques. I'm wondering if it's a matter of just having to practice more / using other techniques, or something else. anyone else experience this or have any idea how I could try to fix it? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 18 Sep 2020 01:38 AM PDT I have tried meditating on and off for about 4 months but it just doesn't work. I get lost in my work and other things. Although I was able to work on getting some insights about my inner-self, my beliefs, dependencies, loops, I'm more conscious of my choices. But I want to be more actively meditating on a daily basis. An accountability partner would be nice, someone who is struggling with the same issue or someone who is regular. My target is to meditate 55 out of next 60 days. Let's do it together. [link] [comments] |
| Spiritual Experience while Drinking Water? Posted: 17 Sep 2020 04:08 PM PDT When I was 16, I had a late-night discussion with a friend about how we can become functional adults while also growing our childish spirit. It felt really inspiring and liberating. In the end, we both felt that we're a little bit taller and lighter than a few minutes ago, and had a really clear mind. We each drank a glass of water and literally felt every bit of water spreading through our bodies creating a wave of joy. It felt divine, I can't really describe it. After that, I never felt anything similar, even though I tried to replicate that moment countless times. Have any of you felt something similar or have an idea about this? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:24 AM PDT Any recommendations for someone that's new to this. I would meditate time to time without any type of sound on. A couple hours ago I tried 528hz for like 10mins and felt really nice afterwards. Thank you for the help in advance! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Sep 2020 11:48 PM PDT Is it possible to do this?? I was thinking of listening to one my favorite songs and meditating however I find it much more difficult when it's a song I get lit to because there's a lot more going on in my head, however I thought it would be good practice to be able to clear my head to fast music. Anyone think this is a good idea or nah? [link] [comments] |

| I feel like I've made a breakthrough Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:41 AM PDT Day 3 of the Waking Up app and I wasnt really into it. I didn't think it was working but I forced myself to do it anyway. Sam started saying something about focusing on the sensations all over your body, and after a little was able to. It was like I could feel everything at once. It only lasted maybe ten seconds, but it was a bit overwhelming. For just a moment I was able to turn off my normally manic mind. It was so peaceful. But then it subsided and I lost focus. It felt very similar to being asleep. When the time was up everything just felt slower. If this is what mindfulness is, then I'm all for it. [link] [comments] |
| Did meditation completely stop your rumination or just decrease it? Posted: 17 Sep 2020 05:26 PM PDT My rumination is keeping me up at night. I'm completely exhausted and constantly on the verge of tears. Will meditation completely stop it eventually? [link] [comments] |
| Metta/LovingKindness Meditation Problems Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:01 PM PDT I'm curious if this mirrors anyone else's experience on Metta meditation. I've been doing daily sessions for about a week now. While sometimes I get that sense of altruism I'm looking for, other times I become cynical about the world around me. For example, when trying to wish the creatures of the world to be happy and healthy, I think of factory farming and chickens. I want to do Metta meditation to improve my relationship with the world and others, but not sure these cynical thoughts are helping. Thanks for your time y'all [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Sep 2020 05:07 PM PDT Have any of you practiced isha yoga? It's the yoga that sadghuru teaches, and if it is as he says it is, the fastest way to dive deep into spirituality. Im talking about Bhuta Shuddi, Surya Kriya, etc. [link] [comments] |
| Is it normal?/What are the causes? Posted: 17 Sep 2020 04:25 PM PDT Whenever I meditate, especially while doing a guided meditation whether it's from a video or an in person guide, I seem to slip into a state that is not meditation nor sleep. It feels like a sort of in between and the only way to describe it is I have no memory of it but I am also aware that I wasn't asleep. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a name for it? | Feeling the room spin during long meditations Posted: 17 Sep 2020 03:56 PM PDT So I've been meditating pretty regularly for over 2 years now and during most long meditations (20 minutes plus) I feel the room start to spin. I don't know if this is a common occurrence amongst meditators. It happens nearly everytime. First it feels like my meditation clicks and a sense of mindfulness and presence comes over me and I'm super aware of myself and everything around me. It feels like I can even feel the dumensions of the room I'm in with my eyes closed. And this brings a peaceful feeling. But then soon after this moment, and I know what is to follow everytime, it feels like the room starts spinning towards me. Nearly like I feel the earth spin on its axis super fast. And this feeling then brings a sense of dread to me I guess. But when this happens, like 9/10 times on meditations longer than 20 minutes, I come away from my session more mindful than when it doesn't. Does anyone else experience this or am is it all in my head? It happens so often that I feel like there must be more to it. [link] [comments] |
| TM or Vipassana/Insight or both? Posted: 17 Sep 2020 07:20 PM PDT I learned TM many years ago and have been practicing on and off for 25+ years but sometimes I alternate it with Vipassana. Does anybody else alternate between the two or do people usually stick to one or the other, or any other form of meditation? Does it matter if I alternate or should I just pick one and stick with it? | Can music be used as an object of attention? Posted: 17 Sep 2020 03:05 PM PDT I was sitting there listening to some lof-fi last night. Just instrumentals and focusing on the drums and melodies and tones of the song. Then I wondered to myself, "is this considered meditating? Sitting here in the present, focused on the music." Of course the most popular/go-to is breathing. But I know bodily sensations can also be a focus of attention. Could music also be used as an object of meditation like the breath is?
