30 day challenge recommendation for sedentary man

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:41 AM PDT

As the title suggests, I'm a 34M living a very sedentary lifestyle (at my computer working all day). I want to try yoga to work on flexibility, strength, and also as a form of mental respite. I've looked at the beginners post and checked out some of the recommendations but there's just so many videos out there I feel very overwhelmed. I'd like to try a 30 day challenge to begin, and was hoping someone could recommend something on youtube as that would be easiest for me to cast to my TV. A future goal would be sharing yoga with my kids & wife if I find it to be an enjoyable and beneficial activity.

    Questions for yoga teachers

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 01:39 PM PDT

Hello! I'm very much in love with Restorative yoga and would like to get certified as a teacher. Do I need to complete a 200 hr registered yoga courses or is it possible to teach and get a certification in Restorative yoga only? I don't plan on teaching large classes, just private lessons with friends and family.

    Mālāsana for Mediation?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 02:35 PM PDT

Has anyone used Mālāsana pose for mediation or mindfulness practice? I think it would be good for my chronic SI joint dysfunction and I can't achieve full lotus. I can't find any solid pros and cons online.

If you love YWA but want more intensity, check out her subscription service

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 12:54 PM PDT

It's fwfg.com and she has a few premium courses that are much more intense than her regular practices and her yoga for weight loss practices, specifically the empower and fuego videos (just finished the fuego one and it was awesome) and she also offers a 7 day free trial so you can try it out before you commit!! I haven't found any other online instructor that I like as much as Adriene so it's great to have a variety of intensity from her :)

    Whats your yoga story?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:45 AM PDT

I got into yoga early this year to enhance my other sport and job of ski instructing my coaches kept telling me my balance and flexibility was the issue with my skiing which I can see when I videotape my self. Since then I have seen it help everything from my skiing to my life and emotional balance. I find my mental well-being and stress is a lot lower since my yoga practice.

I love it as it has small acceptable goals but also stuff that seems impossible at the moment.

What's your story or how and why you go into yoga?

Looking for YouTube video/channel suggestions for fun and varied routines

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:48 AM PDT

I've been really enjoying Nicole Wild's videos, as for me they introduced me to many new poses and transitions, and they just feel interesting and creative. Adriene also seems to use fun combinations and unique poses, though her videos are mostly shorter and geared toward beginners. It seems like Tim, Cat, Fiji, and yoga gypsy all stick more to basic vinyasa warrior etc., which are great sometimes, but often don't feel as fun or new.

Does anyone have suggestions for channels or videos that have creative and playful sequences, or perhaps use more lesser-known poses?

How should one learn Yoga not like a western?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 12:45 AM PDT

Is there a way to learn Yoga from the roots and appreciate it as a philosophy and meditative practice rather than the hobby it has become in the western culture? Of course, in those times, not by traveling to India.

I would understand if the answer is that it isn't possible doing it on the internet, but anything that might get close to it would be appreciated.

    Blessings

    Downvotes?

I really, really wonder why there are people downvoting posts in a yoga community. I mean, why?
