- i started yoga regularly in June. i could barely do a downward dog or a plank pose. i can now do side planks and managed a 4 second crow pose. theres no feeling as good as knowing you’re getting stronger. when you feel like giving up, keep at it. namaste

| How do you know which type of yoga to follow? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 05:51 PM PDT I'm a noob at yoga. I'm a guy who's always been into weight lifting, boxing, and cycling. I usually just stream a video (Yoga with Adrienne) and follow along. But there seems to be so many kinds of yoga out there, like kundalini, bikram, etc. Do you people mix it up doing a different variation each time? Or do you find one and focus on lessons of that variation? Is yoga like martial arts in which there's many variations (karate, Kung fu, taekwodo, etc) or do they all flow together? | Yoga on psychoactive substances Posted: 10 Sep 2020 04:19 PM PDT Hello fellow yogis :) I personally never practice yoga while under the influence of alcohol, even if it's just one drink. I must mention here that I grew up in a Muslim community though I stopped identifying as one in my adult years. In Islam, you can't pray if you're drunk, and I've always perceived yoga as the closest thing I've ever experienced to a prayer. So maybe I'm just influenced by my upbringing. However, I feel like alcohol sort of hinders your connection with your own body. I love practicing after smoking a joint or microdosing LSD. I feel like psychedelics make you more aware of your body, while depressants create some sort of disconnect where you're under the illusion of being able to do asanas while you're actually just pushing beyond your limit. This is all tipsy rambling because I felt like doing yoga, but remembered I can't, because of rules I set myself; and I'm wondering if anyone has a similar opinion? What's your perception on practicing under influence? Do you feel okay practicing on certain drugs (alcohol counts as a drug) but not others? Thanks for reading. I wish you a tomorrow better than your yesterday :) [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 10 Sep 2020 03:53 PM PDT I've worn out my cheap 10€ May that I've been using for the past year, and am in the market for a new one. I've been researching the Jade/Manduka rivalry for while when another option showed up: vegan suede. A local teacher introduced me to the idea (she's using a vegan suede mat from a local company in BCN) but would love to hear from anyone else who's used one. How's the grip, any issues with breaking it in, etc. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 10 Sep 2020 11:05 AM PDT Hi guys Just wondering if anyone gets a weird feeling after yoga, it feels like I'm really anxious (without the anxiety) and a bit shaky. Doesn't happen often but when it does I'm doing my own practice without a teacher Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 10 Sep 2020 02:54 PM PDT I have been using two cheapo Gaiam waffle mats for ages. One is about 5 or 6mm, which is too squishy on carpet, and I think the give makes me slip more. The other is about 4mm, which I prefer, but it's too light. When I start to get sweaty and pick up a hand or foot, the mat sometimes comes along for the ride and flips or rolls. It also buckles and stretches sometimes. I hate having to interrupt the flow to fix my mat. My mats are finally starting to pit, so I was thinking about trying a cork mat. What is the weight like compared to a foam mat? Are they a bit more rigid? Or is rubber a better option? I don't want to buy a new mat only to have the same problem. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 10 Sep 2020 02:45 PM PDT I hope everyone is well 😁 as the title suggests I often find myself bracing in my solar plexus and chest area (and even belly!) ... it's safe to say there's a lot of 'armouring' going on!! I do some online yoga videos for anxiety and I'd like to start to target the specific areas I've mentioned but I'm worried I may choose the wrong video or pose and inadvertently make the muscles even tighter. Does anyone have any suggestions? If there are any good YouTube videos for releasing tension in these areas, it would be greatly appreciated 🙏 [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:59 AM PDT Hello! I run a small history comedy podcast (Kings of Democracy) and I'm working on an episode about the history of Yoga. Does anybody know any good books or podcasts or anything that goes in to the subject? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| I need help, advice, and guidance. Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:28 AM PDT I am new to yoga, and I am enjoying it so much. I decided to take on Adriene's 30 day yoga challenge on Youtube, and so far I'm only on day 4. Before then I was doing very easy beginner's yoga also by Adriene. Now that I started this challenge, I am have to do more elaborate moves that I hadn't done before, which is good because I want to evolve in the practice. I've been feeling however that my shape is not very good. I decided to take a video of myself to see what I need to work on and I found that my table top is not as straight, neither is by plank. All in all, I just look really bad while doing this, and I'm afraid I'm doing it wrong. Ideally I would want to do this with a real life instructor who can see what I'm doing and show me how to improve, but that's just not feasible right now. I don't want to be discouraged, but I can feel the discouragement creepin in. Can someone please give me advice on how to proceed, what I should keep in mind, or should I stop the challenge all together and just focus on learning the moves that I need to improve on? | Posted: 10 Sep 2020 01:07 PM PDT Not sure if overstretched is the correct. I've been doing hot yoga for two months. I took a yoga stretch class and it was more intense than I anticipated. The next day I have a sharp pain in my bum area but it just comes and goes. Do you think I could go back to yoga class in a couple of days or should I take a week off?? I prefer not to take any time off but I don't want to injure my body [link] [comments] |
| Avatar The Last Airbender Yoga? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:19 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm new to yoga and have a very random and specific question: Has anyone come across any yoga series that draws inspiration from the show Avatar the Last Airbender? I just thought it would be fun to have like an Airbending yoga series that focused on flexibility and joy, and then an Earthbending series that focused on strength and grounding. It would make me feel like I'm training to be a bender when I'm just doing boring normal person yoga haha. [link] [comments] |
| Yoga, meditation and spontaneous crying Posted: 10 Sep 2020 04:18 AM PDT Hello you fine people! For the past 2 months i'v been doing yoga and meditation quite frequently and i have noticed that i often, like once a week at least, break down on the floor and cry my eyes out. Sometimes instead of a warm fuzzy feeling, mindfulness leaves me with a slightly nausea-like void feeling. I am also at the beginning of seeing a therapist for anxiety and i also have some childhood trauma. Just by the way. Anyway, is this in any way a common experience of people who start doing different mindfulness practices? [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:28 AM PDT What up yoga community....I am not sure if any of you guys have gotten into the AirPods/yoga class combo but I have become obsessed with doing yoga outside and not having to do anything other than listen and follow along. The problem is I love yoga flow classes, but I hate doing roughly the same class over and over again - and that is how most of the podcasts feel. Has anyone found any semi-advanced class podcasts that are not the same asanas and sequence every time? I found some that are more beginner, and some that are more of a slow flow, which can be great sometimes. But most of the time I am a huge fan of an energizing, faster paced vinyasa flow. | Posted: 10 Sep 2020 05:28 AM PDT I've recently found out that I can easily do crow wrist taps, going back and forth between each wrist without needing to drop down to the floor or reset. I can also tap both wrists at the same time, again multiple times without needing to reset. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on next level drills to continue building off of this, or if there are any poses/transitions where this is a foundation that I can work towards? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

| Wim Hof Breathing, viewed from a yoga angle? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 01:47 AM PDT From a Pranayama/Yoga/Ayurveda way of looking, what do you think happens when Wim Hof Breathing? I've recently picked up this practice, never having done any practice with breathing before and was wondering how the Eastern philosophies would view this exercise. [link] [comments] |
