Me whenever Adrienne says "Hop into something comfy"

[COMP] It took ages to find the balance needed to get this but with help I finally rocked it !!

What is it about Adrienne that makes her so popular?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:27 PM PST

It feels like everyone I ask about their favorite online teacher recommends Yoga with Adriene (sorry, I just caught the typo in the title) and as a yoga teacher who's constantly looking for ways to improve, I'd like to know your opinion about what makes her so appealing?

Online Yoga - Camera on or off?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:17 PM PST

    Hi all, quick question.

I've been doing some zoom yoga classes recently and have my camera typically off because I prefer it that way. The instructor is very kind but pointed out the last time that having a camera on is better for being able to correct the students and get a bit of reactions on how things are going.

If you take part in online live classes as a student do you prefer the camera on or off?
If you are an instructor do you like your students to have the camera on or off? How do you get feedback on how the class is going?

    Thanks a lot!

    Help with shoulder stand?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 06:55 PM PST

Hi all! So a class that I took at my studio recently had us practice shoulder stands, which I hadn't done before. But it was fun, so I started practicing it during my daily session at home.

I've gotten to the point where I feel like my form LOOKS right, but I'm not sure if it actually is. I figured that the name "shoulder stand" would imply that I'd be supporting myself with my shoulders, but I feel like 70% of my weight is on my elbows when I do one? Is this normal? I keep trying to shift my shoulder as far under my body as I can, but it just doesn't seem possible to not use my elbows to support my weight to some degree based on what the pose is "supposed" to look like. Any ideas?

    Do fat people do ashtanga?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:50 PM PST

    Because I haven't seen any.

I recently started practicing at a Mysore studio. My experience has been very positive. I love how everyone does their own "thing" which helps me not get sucked into comparisons. The teachers have been incredible.

I have noticed though that everyone there is really thin. Like not even "average" bodies, and certainly not fat like me. I'm 5'5" and about 210 lbs. I haven't even seen any fat bodies doing ashtanga online.

So do all people who do ashtanga just become thin? Or do fat people find it not welcoming/inaccessible? Just wondering.

    Yoga training add-ons

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:09 PM PST

Hello. I am a 200 hour RYT, and I want to take a new training program online. I am not quite ready to dive into the 300 hr, but I'd like to take a training to offer more to my students. I've considered yin, or meditation, does anyone have any other recommendations? A particular training that I could also applying to my 200 hr to offer more to my students. Thank you! 🙏🙏

    Hoping for some help...

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:14 PM PST

I was recently diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my spine, as well as some bone spurs in there for good measure. I'm nervous about practicing until I can get my MRI to see how bad things are. That being said, do any of you kind folks have suggestions for poses that I could do Yin style that shouldn't cause too much trouble? Thank you from the bottom of my freaked out heart!

Help me pick a yoga mat?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 10:52 AM PST

Hi all, hoping you could provide any helpful wisdom for choosing a new yoga mat. I've had a Jade for about 4 years, and it's really falling apart now. I didn't practice regularly until recently, but I mainly do vinyasa, and hoping to do more hot yoga when studios re-open. I do get quite sweaty. Deciding between Manduka, Yogi Bare or B Yoga I think. I've had a look in the search bar, but haven't seen much on B Yoga mats or Yogi Bare. My Jade has been awesome, but can't stand the pieces of rubber that flake off of it everywhere! Any suggestions much appreciated :)

    How do you approach anxiety/worry?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 04:51 AM PST

I just realized that the feeling I find most difficult to bear is anxiety. I only got to pinpoint this today which is crazy bc I know the word for the longest time but Ive never been able to pinpoint this unbearable feeling as anxiety. I dont get it often but when I do its very difficult for me to handle and I break down into the most vulnerable mess.

I dont know what to do when I worry. Im so afraid because I dont know what will happen or what is happening and it usually involves something I care about a lot, something Im afraid of losing.

Ive looked into this a bit just now and read about worrying not achieving anything and about simply feeling and accepting the sensations of fear and anxiety. These were useful and helped me out quite a bit but I would love to hear what you guys have to say or any stories you might have of how youve overcome you anxiety and maybe insights you might have.

How do you guys go about anxiety/worrying? I would gladly appreciate any insight you guys might have. Thank you so much 🙏

Yoga / power yoga and bodyweight exercises mat thickness.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:36 PM PST

So, after being 1/2 a year stuck on home-office, I became addicted to yoga and I found it to be a nice compliment to other bodyweight exercises I did before (core, all kind of dynamic push-ups, handstand...). I finally decided for a bigger mat.

Does anyone have experiences with Airex matd - they seem very solid based on Amazon reviews I've found.

I was thinking Corona 200 or Hercules. However, I've been wondering... is 25mm thickness of Hercules too much or my wrists, which are a bit over-trained, could benefit from it, as well as it could be very comfy training on such a thick mat. My old one is 15 mm, but the width of 600 mm is simply not enough anymore.

Desikachar and "satvada" - - other sources?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:33 AM PST

    Hello Yoginis and Yogins,

On p 12 and p 80 of "Heart of Yoga" Desikachar writes about yoga as a practice of acceptance and non judgment. He uses the concept "satvada" and defines it as accepting everything we experience as real, including dreams, fantasies, etc.. I've been wanting to read more about this but I'm having trouble finding more sources. So far every source I've found cites only Desikachar.

Does any one know of other sources where I could read more about "satvada"?

    Thanks in advance.

How do I start doing yoga on my own?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 10:10 AM PST

Hello all! I have been taking yoga classes with this amazing instructor for the past couple of years and I roughly average 2-3 classes per week which is great. However, I'm moving very soon and won't be able to take her classes. I'm on the lookout for a new studio where I'll be moving, but due to finances I would like to try practicing more at home. How did you guys figure out a way to get in your yoga at home?
