    Happy about progress! Wheel, baby!

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 06:25 PM PDT

I am the type of yogi that just wants a nice restorative stretch, I'm not really chasing any poses. I started when I had an injury, and realized that I should have been doing yoga for years because it is the perfect pairing with my very physical job.

That being said, certain poses really demonstrate the progress that I have made. I haven't been able to lift up in wheel since I was a kid in gymnastics- when I first started yoga there was noooooo way that I could do it. Now I'm almost 40 and I just held it for about 10-15 seconds. Hell yeah. It's only the second time that I have been able to hold it so I'm super stoked.

Camel is another one that I thought I would never be able to do- it made me feel like I was going to seriously hurt myself- now I am starting to do it so much more easily!

Special shout out to going to the beach a lot this summer and trying to surf and boogie board. My shoulders needed that workout and I feel that it helped boost my yoga for sure. M

The best part of reaching more comfort in these poses is knowing that I have been making the time for myself. It's so cool to try a pose that used to feel impossible and realize that I can do it! It may not be pretty but it's a start.

Thanks for reading my small celebrations :)

    Lotus position

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 08:02 PM PDT

Hi, I'm trying to become flexible enough to be able to sit in full lotus. I know the exercises I am going to do to achieve this, but my question is what's the limit when it comes to stretching? Can I do yoga all day and not tear anything or do I do it hours at a time?

    New subreddit banner

I think we should change our banner image(s).

I would like if they included people who were not just thin white/tanned people. To include the diversity that is already present in our community.

    Opinions?

Lululemon 5mm reversible mat... ok for practicing on carpet?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 05:44 PM PDT

So, I'm looking to possibly buy a lulu reversible mat, I hear the smooth side is great for hot yoga, and the other side has a rougher texture.

With the pandemic surging in Wisconsin, I'll more than likely be practicing more at home. Not in a 95 degree heated room. I live in a carpeted apartment— would there be an issue with flipping over the mat to use the other side? Meaning will lint, cat hair etc stick to the sticky side?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Which lotus would you consider to be more “advanced”? Steve Jobs looks so effortless, and his legs are pretty much horizontally straight, which I can’t even come close to doing. The other two are tighter, but seem less natural? I’m not sure which one exhibits the most flexibility?

How do I structure my practice?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 01:22 AM PDT

    Hi Guys,

I've been practising yoga on and off for quite a long time, but I feel like it's become more important to me as of late. I've been to lots of classes, and my home practice at the moment has been following routines on Youtube. However, I now want to start looking into building my own personal practice and I feel like I'm at a good position to start progressing with more moderate-advanced poses.

My question is, how do I structure my yoga throughout the week to ensure I'm progressing in all areas? I want to get better with my heart openers, my hip opening, inversions, core, balances etc but I feel quite overwhelmed by knowing how to structure it so that I can consistently practise. Do you guys have set days to focus on set things, combine a lot of things into one flow or just practice whatever you feel like on a set day after doing your more general flow?

I think because I went to the gym for weight training for so long I'm so use to the mentality of having a week "split" and structuring my routine. I know yoga is more about being in the present, but I would also like to make sure I am creating a well balanced practice

    Recommendations for hands-free poses/routines?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 11:45 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I recently injured my rib and unable to do my usual workouts (a mixture of running, weights, and flexibility) for 2-3 weeks... but I'm getting so antsy with just sitting around! Any recommendations for short practices/flows/poses that don't involve load-bearing on the shoulders, or too much twisting around? Thank you in advance!

What are some things I can do to sit up straight?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:39 PM PDT

I've read that your core, lower back, and hips/hamstrings all work to help you sit up straight, however how do i know which of these things it is? I'm able to sit up straight with my legs stretched out but its almost impossible for me to sit up straight while sitting with my legs crossed.
