| Feels like I am stuck with my practice Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:25 PM PDT I have been practicing yoga on and off for a little over 10 years. However I am never as good as people who are newer than I am. I know it's not a competition and comparing your journey to others is fundamentally opposite of yoga philosophy but I just feel like I am stuck at the same phase and both with flows+asanas and meditation. | Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:45 PM PDT My left shoulder is crazy tight. Left over from an injury maybe I suspect. In child's pose it feels so tight it's almost like a bone that's going to break - but it isn't a bone - the muscles and facia from the elbow, inside bicep and up over the shoulder blade. I feel like I'm missing a pose that would help - not instantly, but over time. Help is welcome [link] [comments] |
| What have been your experiences with yoga for post-op rehab? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:12 PM PDT I'm coming up on a year since I had reconstructive scaphoid surgery, which has significantly impacted my mobility in my left wrist. Since then, I've been able to do some limited weight bearing stuff (modified chaturanga, down dog is fine because it doesn't require full extension, inversions and arm balances are out of the question) but I honestly haven't been seeing as much improvement as I'd hope to see by now. I've managed to rebuild some general hypertrophy in my left arm with weight training, but I really miss being able to do handstands, crow, and other inversions. Do I need to be more patient? Is there something else I should be doing? Am I just completely doomed to have a fucked up wrist forever? I'd also like to know if anyone else has had any success with using yoga as a way to rehabilitate structural/muscular injuries, post-op or not. [link] [comments] |
| Best yoga leggings for tall women? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:25 PM PDT I'm 5'9" and have a really hard time finding yoga leggings that are long enough for my legs. I have a pair from Beyond Yoga, and as much as I love the feel of them, they look cropped on me because of my height. With winter on the way, I'm hoping to purchase a pair of full-length/long leggings. I'm open to any suggestions; thanks everybody! [link] [comments] |

| What is one thing that isn't yoga but has helped your practice? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:17 AM PDT Do you do a ritual beforehand? Have a special time to do yoga? Have special gear? I dunno, just curious. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:27 PM PDT Trying to get into yoga and gave Yoga with Adriene a shot. It's going okay so far. Definitely tougher than I thought it was going to be...especially since I don't consider myself out of shape. Anyways, one frustration that I kept running into is following along. Since I'm not familiar with the poses, I feel like I'm constantly shifting to see what I should be doing while also trying to maintain the pose. Feel like half the time I'm just trying to follow along. Anyone else run into this problem? Any advice? [link] [comments] |
| How to develop a consistent practice without going to classes? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:45 AM PDT Hi all! I've been practicing yoga for a few years on and off, and I would like to start practicing it more consistently. The problem is 1. I find that I'm unmotivated to practice if I don't physically go to a class with other people and 2. I can't go to classes because I am not in a financial state where I can afford them right now. How many of you have developed a consistent practice without going to a physical class and how did you do it? [link] [comments] |
| What length mat (Manduka Pro) would you recommend for someone who is 5'8"? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:03 AM PDT You need to pay for return shipping, so I wanted to make sure I was ordering the correct length. I was thinking the 71" should be suitable, but I'm not sure if I need the 84" at my height of a little under 5'8". The long size seems almost too long. Also, I want it in grey which only comes in 71," but still concerned it will be slightly short because it's only three inches longer than me. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| How to do yoga and NOT get anxiety? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:58 AM PDT I've been trying to learn yoga for flexibility and something to do while I'm stuck at home during COVID and to help deal with anxiety. Mostly, my shoulders have become so tight that I am not able to take a complete full and deep breath without pain, so that is what I want to focus on. And holy cow, when I go to YouTube and look up "Yoga for Beginners" it's like a full-blown anxiety-inducing production every time. I don't know anything, okay? Yet these "beginner" videos start off with "Okay, begin in dandasana.... Now do this, and breath in, breath, do this, ok, now do this, breath, fingers to the ground, open your pelvis, breath" then after I finally think I've got the pose right (which I usually don't because they go so freaking fast) it goes straight back in to "Okay, now do this, now do this, breath breath breath, do this, do this, go in to child's pose, breath breath breath breath, open your sacrum, now go in to this other pose, great you're halfway in to the pose, now go to the next pose, don't forget to breath!" It seriously stresses me out. Does anybody have a recommendation for a guide or resource that doesn't assume I know any yoga at all, that I can read on my own time so that I am not forced to endure these instructors who don't understand how to slow down for an actual beginner video? Thanks [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:59 AM PDT I'm getting back into Yoga but of course, I only have a mat at home, should I look into getting props? If so, should I just look into getting a blanket/blocks? Those were the only things I used to actively use at my studio pre covid [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:42 AM PDT So, I've tried like three different yoga mats. I had a really gross one from a furniture store, and then a year ago got a Manduka eKO lite 4mm on sale. I thought that one was alright, but found the rubber was tough on my knees in general, and it was quite easy to scrape my knees on the rubber. That being said, grip has been a problem for me in the past with the gross mat, as I'm a bit of a slider. Fortunately, I currently have carpet so I feel a little better about the sliding, but it still may be an issue in the future. Unfortunately, I had to leave my mat behind in a foreign country back in May. I just recently got This one, which is okay but still meh. Its a little thick and I'm not a huge fan of the TPE, but its okay for a temporary solution or at a time where I may need more thickness. I still want to find a better every day mat. Anyone have any mats to recommend? Below is a checklist for me:
Please hit me with price estimate too, because I've come to realize that this shit can be expensive. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
