Just finished a beginner course and it was awesome! Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:11 PM PDT So if anyone knows the place, I went for a 5 week beginner course at Akram Hot Yoga in Addlestone, UK. It was awesome. I'm a 30 year old man with poor flexibility. My strength coach actually recommended yoga to help me lift better. So I went, it's once a week for 5 weeks. I found it so relaxing, and it felt so good to do something where I was OK at it. My flexibility has increased. My deadlift had improved as I can get my back flat and not get another herniated disk. My hamstrings are still a nightmare, but I can feel progress. I'm singing up for another beginner course and have got my wife and sister in law to sign up. Can't wait! [link] [comments] |

Yoga as sole form of exercise? Posted: 01 Sep 2020 05:46 PM PDT Curious as to how many people use yoga as their sole form of exercise? I (40f) want to stay fit long term but there's no other exercise I see myself enjoying for the rest of my life. For context, I am currently at about a low-side of intermediate level. My practice has come a long way particularly with flexibility, but I'm still not as flexible or strong as I'd like to be. [link] [comments] |
Keep flipping over during handstand Posted: 01 Sep 2020 09:01 PM PDT As the title reads, I've been practicing kicking up to handstand for quite some time. There have been instances where I hold it for 5-6 seconds (incredible feeling) but those are few and far between. Usually what happens is I hold handstand for a second or two and then my legs flail over heels first towards the floor. Any tips? [link] [comments] |

Looking to work up to some of the more challenging balancing poses. Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:41 PM PDT I've been plugging away using Down Dog for almost a year. Got more into it during Covid shutdown, invested in a great mat. I see lots of head/hand stand posts on here and that's something I wanna work up to. Not seeing that in DD but I'm still playing around in the lower levels. Any apps, sites or channels you'd recommend? Cheers!! [link] [comments] |
Day 17 of 30 days of yoga with Adriene Posted: 01 Sep 2020 04:27 PM PDT Made it through this one . I was a bit wobbly in some sections because balance has always been an issue . She did this one pose where you take one leg and send it back and bend it while holding my foot. I used my walk for support. And my arms aren't long enough to reach my foot so I just held my leg out in that position. It's been 5 , almost 6 weeks since I've started yoga. [link] [comments] |

Stupid question about getting buffed from yoga Posted: 01 Sep 2020 05:23 PM PDT So I just signed up for the gym 2 weeks ago and at the exact same day had an accident that left me unable to lift weights. I thought it would maybe be a good idea to do yoga instead, since I have some experience with it and found it kinda cool when I did it. The only thing is that I'm kinda busy and I don't want to put my time and effort in it if it won't really help me gain some muscle. What are your thoughts? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Yoga Off the Mat- Fall Digestive Reset Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:22 PM PDT Hello r/Yoga If you've been sluggish, bloated, don't have an appetite, have too much of an appetite, have difficult poops, or something about you just seems off you may be interested in a digestive reset. A digestive reset gives our digestive system the chance to rest and build up strength. We accomplish this by reducing difficult to digest foods like wheat, processed sugars, caffeine, meat, dairy, alcohol and raw foods. THIS IS NOT A FAST. Fasting can be just as traumatizing to your biology as a poor diet if misapplied. You will also be invited to implement some practices to help promote digestion these range from, building time around your eating habits, brief yoga and movement practices, circadian scheduling and other digestive promoting practices. We will meet 5 times throughout September as we progress through the reset. For more information please follow this link If you wish to participate use this code at checkout yogareddit for 25% off Feel free to reach out with any questions. Peace [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2020 01:35 PM PDT so long story short, i have asthma really bad and allergies and they affect every aspect of my life. When i was exercising and doing yoga, they were soooo much better. So i want to start up my yoga in the morning but i also want to start riding my bike. I was wondering in the opinions of some, would it be better the do both the yoga and bike ride in the morning or just the bike ride in the morning and yoga at night? I am unable to do the ride at night because when i get off work, the area i live in is sketchy at night and there have been stories and issues of people preying on women so i do not want to take the chance. Anyways, opinions or help with this? i don't know if i should space them out or if i should spread them out at night? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:25 AM PDT Crow pose is my bread and butter and I'm looking to advance from it, for crane pose is it realistic to have your arms be a 90 degree angle from the ground? From a Google image search I'm seeing most slanted forward at like a 70 degree angle. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:14 AM PDT Does Melissa wood health come across as fake to anyone else? Rich influential restauranteur husband,so obvious celeb clients automatically, but does it mean she is any different to all other instructors out there? Her stuff is so high priced for what it is, people are giving way more on YouTube for free. Also Jesus that's a lot of jewellery to be wearing at a time so distracting, annoying that she is always trying to flog some brand and product to her followers in the name of authenticity. Posted: 01 Sep 2020 07:41 AM PDT Also, do both hips have to touch the floor? I noticed the bent one my glutes are lifted. I mean when I go 90 degrees I feel discomfort as well. I like to meditate on pigeon pose and feel awesome with no pain so im just going to go ahead and do what the lady says and bend the legs. Thats okay right? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2020 06:09 AM PDT So I've recently started doing Yoga with Adriene's 30 days. In the course of discovering how to move I've noticed my lower back is tight very often. Not just on the mat but throughout my day. Can anyone point me to a very beginner friendly routine I can incorporate into my practice to address the issue? [link] [comments] |

Does yoga help you lose weight? Posted: 01 Sep 2020 03:57 AM PDT I want to lose weight, only about five kilograms and maintain it as that. I don't like hardcore exercising but I think I can try dieting but I still want to add a minimal exercise in my daily weight loss plan. And I think I can handle yoga since it's milder and they say it can calm your mind. But the problem is idk how lmao. Does this yoga help? If yes, how can I learn it without going outside? Maybe an app or youtube video that really works. Can you send some links?? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Is it weird to try to make friends in yoga class? How would one go about doing so? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:42 PM PDT So due to covid I've lacked a lot of social interactions. I took a yoga class months ago at school but never talked to people, just did the class then left. However, now I want to sign up for classes but also want to make friends. Is it weird to do that? I'm not great at talking to people and can be shy but I feel even moreso weird trying at a yoga studio or a gym. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2020 03:28 AM PDT Well, was able to motivate my self to do 3-4 30 mins a week over lockdown. And our yoga class started up again in level 2. I wasn't sure if I could be bothered going - as it was pouring with rain. But, i went anyway. And I am amazed by how much happier I feel afterwards. I had a bad day, and struggle with personal motivation to do much when locked down and working from home. I do work but have to kick my self in the pants to follow any hobby etc. Think it I am over social distancing. I have been doing yoga for 4 months and have been waiting to get to the point where i enjoy it. Might have turned the corner tonight. Am still tight with my forward bends and sitting on my knees kneeling. Maybe in a few years, i might get bendy. [link] [comments] |
