Ashtanga yoga: New to Ashtanga, question about marichyasanas/anatomy |
| New to Ashtanga, question about marichyasanas/anatomy Posted: 28 Oct 2020 03:40 PM PDT Hello everyone, first post here! I've been practicing yoga regularly for the last 9 months, but took a break thanks to depression for about 5 years before getting back into it. There was a few years before my hiatus where I practiced vinyasa/hatha. So I've been practicing overall for almost 4 years. Currently my main yoga style is vinyasa, and I'll go to a hot yoga class on occasion. Recently I took a class where the instructor used a lot of ashtanga elements into the practice, and it really intrigued me. I felt amazing. Did surya namaskar A and B. We did a few of the marichyasana poses (I believe it was A and B) and I discovered that I could actually do a bind. I felt amazing in those poses, so far I can grasp fingers but not the wrists... yet. Since then I've done a couple 1 hour long ashtanga videos on YouTube. One was a guided half primary, another was an intro to ashtanga, about 2/3 of the full primary series. This style where you do the same poses with each practice fascinates me. I like knowing that with enough practice the poses come naturally. And you know what one is coming next. Anyway, Later on I looked up marichyasana C and.... I absolutely cannot bind in C. There's no way I can physically go into the full expression of the pose. I can hook my elbow over the knee, but due to my being petite with a short torso, and short arms there's absolutely no way I can rotate that shoulder to do a bind. Is this a common problem for petite ashtangis? Thoughts are welcome, thanks in advance (: [link] [comments] |
