| Favorite poses for neck/trapezius area? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 09:19 PM PDT I've noticed my shoulders are really rounding forwards and the areas where my neck meets my shoulders are super tight. What are your favorite poses to open up these areas? Right now I'm doing fish & working towards a more open camel. [link] [comments] |
| Best poses to loosen a tight psoas muscle? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 07:29 PM PDT I'm looking for videos or instructions on the best poses to loosen my tight psoas muscle. The tightness causes me nausea and vomiting due to stress and I want to learn how to better manage this. I have novice level skills and used to practice regularly but have lost my routine and I'm looking to build a new one. [link] [comments] |
| Best Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 06:56 PM PDT Hi Everyone. I checked the FAQ before posting this, could've missed it though... A long time ago I found an Ashtanga - Iyengar yoga teacher and absolutely fell in love with the way of Iyengar yoga. focusing on improving alignment with your yoga practice just makes so much sense and is honestly the only thing that helped me overcome my postural and structural issues. I want to become a yoga teacher, but I'm sort of ruined by the teacher I had before. It's either Iyengar yoga, or it's nothing. Anyone with a strong Iyengar yoga background, or Iyengar teachers. Where do you recommend I go to pursue an Iyengar yoga teacher training? Within the United States or in other countries? I have the ability to travel and will be immersing myself in yoga when I go. Really going for the yogi life. [link] [comments] |
| Should plow pose involve an ab crunch or just the legs? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 04:38 PM PDT I was recently trying to get my head closer to my hips. I've been doing plow poses and caterpillar poses. In a lot of the pictures I look at, people are mostly involving their legs and keeping their back straight. Is it a good idea to crunch while doing it? Will it help my abs? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 28 Oct 2020 12:47 PM PDT Hello! Just a question for the ladies here... what top/bra wear has worked to keep the tatas in place? I'm not sure where to start especially with yoga, and not looking to waste money! Also, maybe something that's also helpful for HIIT workouts as well? I'm so tired of the boobies falling out 😫 [link] [comments] |
| Sharing my current fave yoga resource Posted: 28 Oct 2020 03:19 PM PDT I got into yoga during the quarantine in March when skyting.com were offering free live classes. I loved the teachers there but the subscription's a bit pricy for me, so I had to quit once they stopped sharing free content. I later started using https://www.yogaindailylife.org/system/en/ and I couldn't recommend it enough! It's a picture-based resource so every once in a while you might need to do some extra googling to get a better understanding of the poses but so far it's the most systematic and holistic resource I've found and it's perfect for beginners (I'm still on level 2!). It places a lot of emphasis on breathing and on taking the activities in slowly which I've personally found very satisfying. At this point, having done a yoga session feels like having eaten a good meal and I notice during the day that my breathing is much deeper than it used to be :-) Haven't seen this resource on here so I thought I'd share! | Beginner yogi with lots of bones and little muscle mass Posted: 28 Oct 2020 12:16 PM PDT Hi, friends! I've recently started at home practice, mostly with my favorite YouTuber Adriene! I've loved my practice so far, but I'm a bit of a bony person. What I like to refer to as "skinny fat." I have no padding whatsoever, so in some poses my bones really hurt me and it sucks because I want to make progress but I have to stop half way through a breath cycle because my butt bones are killing me, or when I'm on my back I can feel my spine on the ground. I was once severely overweight and was for most of my life, (280 lbs to 140 lbs) so these sensations are new to me as a whole and have been quite difficult to get used to. If anyone has some tips for me to make some of these positions a little less painful, mostly the sitting or lying down ones, that would be awesome! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT Hi all! I've always done yoga sporadically, but have recently decided to commit to regular practice. I'm starting off with one of the Yoga With Adriene 30 day programs, and I really like it so far. My only issue is my wrists. Any time I'm in a pose where my hands are bearing weight for more than a few seconds (cat/cow, tabletop, plank, etc) the heels of my hands and my wrists start to really hurt. I tried getting a thicker mat, but that didn't help much. I'm wondering, am I doing something wrong in these poses that is causing the pain? Is this something that will go away as I continue in my practice and get stronger? Do I maybe just have really bony hands and I should suck it up? Any advice you have is greatly appreciated! | Manduka mat owners- did you choose the Pro or the Prolite, and why? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 07:03 AM PDT I think I've read all of the older threads on this, but I'd still like to read more opinions on the Manduka Pro vs. Prolite. I bought both of these and I'm having a really hard time deciding which to keep. The Pro is obviously thicker, but my knees still hurt in a low lunge, so is it really providing any benefit to me? My wrists never hurt, but might I develop a wrist issue after years of using a mat thinner than the Pro (assuming I kept the Prolite)? The Pro is also a lot firmer, and I actually prefer the slightly spongier feel of the Prolite. I bought the Pro XL and the Prolite Long, and I prefer the length of the Prolite (79") as opposed to the XL, which is 6 inches unnecessarily long, which just aggravates me for no legitimate reason. But, I prefer the width of the Pro XL even if it's not needed because I'm thin. I think I read one person say that the Prolite moves around on certain surfaces, and warps and stretches over time. Has anyone else experienced this? I would want to use this mat for years, so I don't want something that is going to stretch out. My floor at home is not as hard as some because I exercise on bamboo mats which cover hideous apartment carpet, but in the future I will definitely be looking for a place with hardwood floors. I wonder if at that point I will regret not keeping the Pro. I also feel much more balanced on the Prolite, but I'm sure I would adjust to the Pro with time. Basically, I kind of prefer the Prolite, but I feel like I might regret not keeping the Pro for the reasons above. What are your thoughts on these two mats, and why did you go with the one you chose? Also: I almost returned both of these mats because of the slip issue (even after a salt treatment), but I seemed to have found something that worked amazingly for both mats: I sprayed them down with vinegar and left them to dry underneath my baseboard electric heater. I'm not sure why this would work so well, or if it was this alone or in combination with the prior salt treatment, but they are both more than grippy enough now. [link] [comments] |
| What is this weird discomfort feeling in my outer knee when attempting to stretch? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 10:47 AM PDT I practice Brazilian Jiu jitsu and I aspire to one day fight. I've been stretching recently because my flexibility is terrible. My goal is to eventually do a split. Anyways, whenever I do any form of the pigeon pose I feel a little discomfort in the outer part of my knee. It isn't painful though. When I do the supine pigeon pose I do notice that the more I bring in my leg the more i feel like my bone may pop out of place. I'm not experience with stretching at all, I just want to know if anyone has any experience with what I've described. And if anyone knows what it is that I'm experiencing and how to treat and prevent it. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 28 Oct 2020 06:36 AM PDT Hi all, You know where you get deep into some standing or one legged pose and your muscles start to shake? It can happen in plank or vira 3 or in a lot of other poses. Well I heard several times that's a good spot to be because the muscles or even the neurotransmitters of the muscles are kind of "re-wiring" in order to become more stable. Is there any scientific proof of that? Anyone know why muscles get shaky? this is not specifically a yoga question but it's something I've heard several times in yoga classes. Many thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
| Anyone know any videos that are Yoga for seated meditation? My legs/hips are tight. Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:48 AM PDT If there is a video specifically made for helping to sit cross legged that wld be great, I wish I could sit in meditation longer but the leg pain really gets in the way [link] [comments] |
| Can I do yoga with weight bands around my legs? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:07 AM PDT Pretty much the title. I have excessive and stubborn belly fat and I felt doing weighted banda would help tone up my belly, is it okay? [link] [comments] |
| Why it’s hard to pose from low lunge to warrior? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 08:08 AM PDT Just started yoga. It has been better but in low lunge to go to warrior 2, it just hard to stand up to warrior!! As instructed in down dog, change the back foot to the ground and inhale during low lunge and tryna do warrior but i need to yell everytime I stand my torso up like heavy lifting or sth.. which muscle is weak and causing this? | Posted: 28 Oct 2020 07:52 AM PDT I've been doing yoga (yin & vinyasa) for a bit over 2yrs now from an app on beginner mode & am feeling so much more confident & strong than I ever have, but what I'm stuck on is when to move up; I really want to try an arm balance but am not sure where to start. Any suggestions on maybe easier ones? [link] [comments] |
