Almost 3 months meditating and I must say something

Is saving my life, is bringing me back happiness little by little. Session by session. Day by day. I'm grateful for my present, and hope that my practice grows more over time.

    Just BE.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 06:55 PM PDT

It finally clicked. I don't know what triggers it but it did. Until now it was only a conceptual notion, the whole observer thing, now it's real. It's so hard to explain in words yet it's so simple. No notions, no efforts, no nothing, Just BE.

I had to force myself to stop because i would have kept meditating for hours. That feeling of peace you get from it, it's intoxicating. At some point, i completely stop observing myself and just focus on my own awareness.

Being aware that you are observing your own awareness who is observing the observed (You here, the body). It just never ends, infinite loop of awareness being aware of itself. Crazy.

Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentimihalyi contends that “unless we are occupied with other thoughts, worrying is the brain’s default position.” Tell me your thoughts!

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 05:27 AM PDT

This is why, he says, "we must constantly strive to escape such 'psychic entropy' by learning to control our consciousness and direct our attention to activities which provide 'flow' activities which give positive feedback and strengthen our sense of purpose and achievement."

As I understood from the book "The Power of Now", nothingness or no thoughts supposed to be ideal? You actually have to "not to have thoughts"?

(Yes, I have a little to no experience with meditation💛)

Your breath is your connection to the trees.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 11:00 AM PDT

I've never thought about this until today.

We breathe as the tree breathes. As we take in each breath our bodies begin to slow down, spirit becomes aware of itself. Then we start to merge deeper and deeper into the tree. We start to leave our perception of time and feel how much slower nature moves than us. We're reminded of what it means to be still, what it feels to be alive again when the mind loses its sense of self and connects to the world. We feel our roots reaching into hell and our branches reaching into heaven.

Silent, grounded and secure as we feel connected to the entire forest and it's breath.

And we begin to feel what the tree feels: that we are connected to the earth, that everything is one, that we are the trees and that the trees are us.

In need of some hope <3

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 01:16 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'm not one to make posts like this, but my family could use some prayers and positive thoughts sent their way right now. There's a chance that both my mother and step dad may not live for much longer. We've been going to the temple every day for almost the last week now, and I plan to make more of an effort to practice my faith more consistently as I feel I haven't been taking it seriously enough while growing up.

I live in Canada though my family is from Vietnam/China. My birthdate is on June 3rd, 2002. Just incase that personal information helps in your prayers, as I sometimes include it in mine usually when I'm asking for help. This wasn't meant to be related to just religion and prayers, whoops. I try to meditate regularly as well for my own sake, though I would say I have a long way to go. Well, I suppose positive thoughts in ANY form is appreciated. That is what I'm trying to say :)

    Stay safe, Thank you!

Meditating gives me a deeply psychadelic sensation

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 11:33 PM PDT

I've been meditating for only a few days, and I'm so in love with it. After having struggled with pretty bad anxiety, meditation seems to just melt my worries away. I find that after I meditate for even as little as 5 minutes, I feel a sort of psychadelic rush only comparable to drug experiences I've had. When I focus on my breathing, my face and body feel tingly, and when I open my eyes at the end, I feel this sudden euphoric rush that lasts 10-15 minutes. It's like a full body high. Has anyone else had similar experiences, or am I just insane?

We can launch rockets into space but we still haven't figured out how to achieve world peace?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 01:07 AM PDT

Something is off about this picture...maybe we should listen to the big guy upstairs. SpaceX Liftoff!

Does anyone have the answer to achieving world peace?

Try this: Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Don't force the exhale. Just let your body come back to normal. When there's only a tiny bit of air remaining in your lungs, focus on your lower belly. You should feel a warm soft, very pleasing feeling. Cultivate this feeling. The taste of life :)

My hearing improved after 1 week of meditation

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 01:44 AM PDT

One example is when I'm listening to a song with earphones.. before meditation, I used to put the sound level at around 85% Now, after a week of meditation, I put it at 70% or less for the same song

Other than that, in day to day, I'm hearing more sounds now Anyone experienced this?

Is there a tool/ app that is able to monitor your attention and alert you if your mind has wondered?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 12:37 AM PDT

I know there are a thousand apps out there but I'm thinking of something specific, something that is attempting to monitor how attention and work out if your mind has wondered.

A basic example of what I'm thinking. An app tells you to count each beep, after a short period it asks you how many beeps you counted and records the difference.

If you did this for x mins and your count matched the apps then you could be reasonably sure the mind hadn't wondered away in x mins.

When I do pure concentration meditations I often have no idea how long I had drifted away for.

I'm not saying that would be a great user interface but hopefully it demonstrates the idea of active feedback

A more elaborate example would be something that monitored brain activity and could tell you after a session that your activity was in x range for 20 mins and then y range for 5

Is there anything available that does this or can you think of a better measurement method than above?

EDIT: Another option was the app would play something repetitive and then change it, very subtly at first and getting increasingly obvious. You would inform the app when you noticed the change.

The time taken for you to react could then be used as a pricy for how closely you were paying attention

    Feeling happily lost

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 08:44 AM PDT

I envisioned my personal journey getting filled with more and more "good days". A good day being one with no anxiety, no discomfort, only perfect thoughts, perfect emotions. I wanted to be the poster-boy for self discovery, eating the Happy Meal of the MacMeditation fast food chain, radiating only the best vibezz.

Fuck all that. I've gone another way. I still feel anxious and sad and lost, but I'm more ok with that now. Being ok with all the darkness more of a superpower than meditating your way into the "perfect life". It doesn't make it go away, but you become friends with it instead.

Today, I feel lost, I don't know much about this weird world, inner or outer. And that's ok. Who can tell me that I "need" to know? That's just some mental construct, blocking true experience.

Be imperfect my friends and enemies.

    Quiet mind

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 02:35 AM PDT

I've been meditating for 3 months now, but my biggest question remains unanswered. There are many days when I don't know why, but I'm feeling sad. There's no negative thought that brings me down, I'm just down. I think that my subconscious thoughts are causing this, and I'm just not "hearing" them/can't really change them.

Another thing is very often when I'm asked "what are you thinking about right now?" I just can't answer anything, because my mind is literally not thinking about anything, just being.

So my question is: is this normal? Will this change throughout my journey with meditation? In headspace meditation there's a part, where we break the concentration and let the mind think. My mind never thinks that time. Can I wake up my mind somehow?

You are not who you think you are.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 04:14 AM PDT

We all have been brought up to this conditioning that we are a person that is completely separate, different from others and alienated by the enviroment. It's a completely fake and illusory game. It absolutely stripped away the true innocence that is our nature.

But don't worry. You Now, have the ability to transcend this illusory identity and see what you truly are- beyond labels and beliefs. It all seems like a great game that Consciousness plays with itself. You are the vast, formless ocean of Consciousness, but it's not about this words, but about your experience.

Investigate your true nature. Reclaim your natural purity and be eternaly free from all delusion. You have the power. It's not a question of effort, but of earnestness and honesty. It's actualy very easy and simple. Every Being may preffer his own concepts about the truth. But the truth- your true self- Freedom just simply Is here and now. It just effortlessly Is. It's very intimate, even closer than intimacy.

So, when you realise that it's already what you are, your old psychological habbits will come to try to do persuade you that it's away from you and you must practice more... ect ect, but you simply see that this is pure nonsence. The mind will always try to come back and get your attention and identity, but you don't care. Literally forget about the mind and the mind will forget about you. You don't be afraid of any "mind attack" , because it cannot attack you, only the idea you have of yourself. Simply recognise your true position and stay as you are, quiet ever present Awareness.

Thank you for rising in Consciousness ❤️ Love you.

Preparing for 10 day vipassana retreat - training for extended sitting

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 02:11 AM PDT

I will be attending a 10 day vipassana retreat in a few weeks time. My main concern is that I have been doing 99% of my meditation sitting on a chair due to numbness and discomfort while sitting on floor or cushion.. (including some foot planter discomfort) I do have a meditation cushion to raise my hips and have a basic burmese posture. I started to use chair as I did not want to spend my meditation time focussed on discomfort and pain. I am seeking practical advice on exercises or alike to prepare for the upcoming long periods of sitting.

    Thanks in advance .

Felt like my soul was leaving my body towards the end of my meditation session

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 06:30 PM PDT

Hey all, so I began meditating at the start of September, initially beginning with 5 mins every morning and since October I increased it to 10 mins every morning. Just then towards the end of my meditation session I felt a strange sensation, as if my soul was leaving my body and about to lose consciousness. To those more experienced I was wondering if this has happened to you and what is the cause of this.

    Much appreciated!

Anyone else feel intense pleasure from meditation? The act of breathing in and exhaling feels so good after the 1 hour mark because thats usually the time it takes to settle my mind. My longest session was about an hour and a half.
