Stretching ankle will occasionally spasm calf into lots of pain

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 03:25 AM PDT

    Hey

For my whole life I have had this issue where I would stretch my ankle, and at random it would lock in place and I would have increasingly intense pain in my calf for 10 seconds, then it would go away. I woke up from this last night and my calf took so much pain that the aches of it still persist for hours. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Right lower mid back tightness- How to address this?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 04:09 PM PDT

When on my stomach, I prop myself up on my elbows spaced evenly apart, hands together holding this phone on the floor, stomach to toes are flat on the floor.

I let my left hip sink, lean down/out to the left, weight into my left elbow, right hip lifting off the floor as my right buttock twists left and over, more of my left stomach/oblique touching the floor. Feels pretty normal/unrestrained on that side.

When I lean so my right hip touches the floor, I have major inhibition/tightness in my right mid to lower back. I can feel a tight spot mid-back on the right side next to my spine. Also hurts when I go from sitting/leaning forward to straightening up to stand. Even though that's a tight spot, is it something else like my glute, tight hamstring, psoas, etc. that's the true origin of the problem pulling it back?

Similar to a post I had a while ago- laid on my back, put my hands above my head. The top of my right hand, palm upwards, touched the floor. My left hand was raised, and when I flattened it, my shoulder really hurt. So I thought- shoulder problem, right?

Someone on here said it sounded like a tight lat. I softened my left lat on a roller for a while. Right afterwards, I laid on my back and my left hand touched the floor with ease/no shoulder impingement pain.

Cat portion of cat/cow pose provides some relief. Just not sure where to target for most efficiency.

So with my hurting right lower mid-back, do I aim for a back stretch or something else linked to it? Which stretches/poses should I do?

    Thank you!

Hip-Flexor Band Stretch - How much band resistance should I purchase?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 07:37 PM PDT

I am 175lb male looking to improve my hip-mobility and hip impingement issues and have noticed people (like TheReadyState) doing banded hip flexor stretches and other band assisted movements to help with that. I want to do the same but I don't know how much band resistance I should buy. I'm going to go for 1 Rogue band, should I buy the 65lb resistance or 100lb resistance, or something else? Sorry if this is a dumb question!

[Help!] Ankle dorsiflexion doesn't feel like a calf stretch, it feels like an ankle "flex?"

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 01:31 PM PDT

Everywhere tells me I'm supposed to feel a stretch in my calf, but it instead feels almost exactly as if I were consciously flexing my foot upwards - a cramped heat in the front of my ankle, and absolutely nothing in my calf.

Pushing onwards, now it's feeling like I could develop some sort of repetitive strain or tightness in whatever muscle at the front of my ankle is "flexing."

In general, my body seems to have no idea how to send weight through my ankles. Crescent pose in yoga, for instance - by default I have my back toe extended far out behind me. In reality, I can shift my ankle back in front of it by a centimeter or two, but to do so requires a complete conscious rewiring of my body and, once again, that conscious "flex" with absolutely no stretch in my ankle.

Best result I've had so far is with progressive resistance using an elastic band, I feel a little bit of a stretch there, I think? I still have to do a ton of work to convince my ankle to stop "flexing upwards." I don't know. Any help appreciated <3

I naturally cannot fully straighten my legs. Will this affect my capacity to gain flexibility?
