Has anyone ever ACTUALLY stayed for a super long time for savasana?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 05:39 PM PDT

In every yoga class I've ever taken (including in an elective class in college) the teacher will say "stay as long as you like" when wrapping up savasana. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I have not yet come around to savasana. It's nice to stop when you've had a particularly challenging class, I just still can't help but not really want to stay there for long. I tend to be in a hurry which obviously speaks to our society (in the US) and the sense of urgency a lot of us share to get to work, home, pets, kids, LIFE.

Anyway, does anyone actually ever stay a super long time? During covid, my studio extensively cleans after each class so everyone obviously has to leave pretty soon, even though they say to stay all day if that's what we need. I've just always wondered this!

Edit for those who haven't read this yet: what about when you tell people they don't have to follow your planned flow and that they can whatever they want? There's this woman who always comes and has never once joined the class. She just does hand stands and notoriously difficult things in the very front. It annoys me but I am working on it. Are the teachers really unphased? Why come to a class if you don't want to do the teacher's flow? Can't you do your own flow at home? I find it odd.

Death is not ‘The End’; it is a Bend to Transcend.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:35 PM PDT

Most of us think that life is like a journey. At the end of the road called life, there stands death. But this is a myth. Who dies? Only the body dies. Thus, we say, these are the mortal remains of the person and the person 'passed away', 'departed', 'expired' or 'moved on'. Death is not of the person that was alive! Shouldn't we realize then, that death is just the end of one chapter in the book of our existence? If we move on, then where do we go? We carry our Karma, our unsettled actions and we are reborn in another body to experience heaven or hell right here on earth. Our ultimate goal is to transcend this to be enlightened and to be liberated so as to unite with the Divine.

Gym exercises to improve my yoga skills?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:39 AM PDT

Hello everyone! I was super into hot yoga a few years ago but lost my job and couldn't afford the membership. Now I'm in a much better place and recently started at a new studio! I was reasonably decent at all the poses back when I was first doing yoga, but the class I took yesterday kicked my butt!

I workout at the gym 3 times a week and was hoping y'all could give me an idea of what exercises/equipment would help me with my yoga the most. I already do cardio every time I go, as well as various arm and leg exercises (mainly on the machines). Thanks!

    Yoga for chronic pain

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:12 AM PDT

Hi, I don't know if I'm on the right subreddit for this question. I really want to pick up yoga, but I have been struggeling to find anything I'm able to do. I have chronic pain in both my arms and many poses are painful. Can someone recommend some gentle yoga that is not heavy on the arms?

Do you always need a hard basis?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:05 AM PDT

I really like doing sitting postion but sometimes I can't sit on the floor and don't have a really hard bench to use. Is using a soft basis, like a bed or a couch, okay for the position?

    Weighing yourself before/after yoga?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:28 AM PDT

Has anyone tried weighing themselves both before and after a yoga session in the morning (to see if there was a difference)?

I'm wondering if tension in our muscles can actually increase how much we weigh a bit.

Looking for good cork mat (Europe-based)

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 03:20 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I am looking for a good cork yoga mat, after finding out I am allergic to natural rubber and had to send back my new Lululemon mat...

When I google for the best cork mats I always see Scoria or Yoloha popping up, unfortunately I am based in Europe (Belgium) and these companies have no resellers here (as far as I can find). Or I find 600 mats on Amazon which look cheap and unreliable... Does anyone have good experience with a European-based cork yoga mat seller?

I am looking for a relatively thick mat as I do yoga on an cold tiled floor (4mm-6mm), ideally from an eco-conscious (local) shop. I don't get very sweaty during class, so my mat needs to be very grippy, without me having to wet the mat (something I have to do with my current suede mat and find very annoying).

So far I have seen GrowFromNature, Sustain or CorkYogis which look promising, but I would like to hear some actual experiences before I commit, as I see on the reviews that some mats are slippy...
