Yoga - Need suggestions for how deal with control Posted: 04 Oct 2020 04:04 PM PDT Buenos Dias Yogis, A few years ago I was certified to teach yoga and because of an international move, I stopped teaching and lost my home practice. Right now, in life, I am struggling with this concept of control. Perhaps maybe letting go and being okay with that. When I was studying and practicing yoga more regularly, I loved how some teachers would incorporate Yamas and Niyamas into the practice. I was hoping that maybe you could make a suggestion for one that I could re-study, meditate on and if you have a youtube video that incorporates the theme of control/letting go that would be HUGE for me right now. Many thanks! Brad [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:12 PM PDT Has anyone tried both of these mats for a direct comparison? I've been scouring the internet to look for a side by side on these two mats and I can't find anything including elsewhere on this sub! Portability isn't important to me, I want a mat that will allow me to grip in my positions without slipping and that offers decent cushion. I currently have this Gaiam yoga mat and I find myself slipping in loses like warrior or downard facing dog and that's the main problem I want to remedy. I sweat more than normal I believe, but not an extreme amount - however I do get sweaty palms while doing yoga which is especially annoying. Any advice on these two? Or perhaps an addition suggestion to give? It's a lot of money to drop on a mat before knowing for sure. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Oct 2020 04:27 PM PDT Hi everyone!! I am new to yoga and by new, I mean, I just did my first yoga class through YouTube. I am working through a bout of health anxiety, really just a generalized anxiety disorder, however, what my anxiety is feeding on most these days is health anxiety. I am very healthy, however, my brain likes to convince me something is wrong with my body and it sends me spiraling daily. I've been here before and I've gotten out of it, but I'm ready to connect to my higher self and rid or lower my anxiety completely, rather than sweeping it under the rug and making space at the table for it to come back. Yoga is a great practice and I want to use it as my main tool to improve my mental health. This post is mostly trying to connect with others who have used yoga for the same reason, or who can give me insight on how to continually improve my practice and it's relation to my mental health. I'm ready to dive back into yoga like I once did- is this possible online? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:49 PM PDT For many years, yoga was my life. I loved my studio and it was life changing for me. I've had to care for my dad full time for the past few years, so I have had to give up my practice at home since he can't be left alone. I tried some yoga videos at home but it wasn't the same as a schedule and like building on each other courses like I once loved. Sadly mad dad recently passed, but I live no where near a studio 45 minute drive at leaast. I want to dive back in, especially to help cope with my dad's passing. But there are so may apps and some seem gimmicy so I don't know where to begin. I loved being a college student, so I was hoping for some kind of online yoga like course where you work up and have lessons, but its either not quite what I want or I'm sure its not not legit. So I am looking for recommendations. I've been doing youtube videos but I want something a bit more intense and that teaches more even if it isn't (cost isn't an issue- I know you get what you pay for.) I don't need live classes, but classes that build upon each other. I have thought about doing teacher training- just cause I want all that sort of info, but I am scared that's not the right path. I truly apolgize if this is in an FAQ. I am going though the darkest days of my life and I found so much joy in yoga and want to just reimmerse myself in it to help me through some of this darkness. Thank you for your understanding and patience, this took a lot of courage to even get on here and if you have resources that answer my questions I'd love to see them, but I also love personal recomendations. Also ideally if I could stream it through my TV or laptop at least (I have prime, most streaming apps if there are any good programs on there) but my eye site can't handle the tiny screen of the phone. I have extremely nice yoga equipment and a great space getting set up, I just need the right kind of classes/course/program that works for me. So any help you guys have or direction to the proper place to ask I would be internally grateful. Al [link] [comments] |
Can't roll on my knees... any remedies? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 01:32 PM PDT So the issue is that any sort of rolling motion on the knee with weight on is super painful to me. For example placing a knee on the ground in low lunge, then releasing the back leg to the ground - that's already too much motion. And from that point, lifting the back foot up too, that's a nightmare. I usually need to lift my knee, adjust the lower leg and only then put the knee down - but I'm not always situated to do this. Another non-yoga example is that I just can't do woman's push-ups. I don't mind any kind of pressure, as long as it's not moving anywhere under weight. I do not have any kind of problem with my knees except for this. Am I doing this motion wrong somehow? Is there something to engage to protect the knee? Extra padding is not particularly helpful unless there's so much of it it's affecting stability. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:38 PM PDT I'm wondering how other people deep clean their mats? How do you physically clean it? I take mine in the shower and scrub it there because I live in an apartment and have no outside space to put it in the sun or hose to spray it down. I've tried soaking in the tub before for 10mins and then rinsing in the shower but I feel like it doesn't get that clean in some spots because it floats. Just curious as to what others do as my shower method doesn't seem like the best way because it's hard to holdup the mat and soap it up at the same time and rinsing it can be a pain. Shaky when doing one leg or warrior/lunge poses. Looking for advice! Posted: 04 Oct 2020 03:31 PM PDT Hi! I've been doing yoga for 10 months now, and I have seen a vast improvement in my flexibility. I've been spending most of this year focusing on releasing and strengthening my leg and hip muscles. (I'm finally at the place those yogis show pictures saying, "starting here?" lol). But I have the worst time with balancing in certain poses. I was doing a low lunge pose this morning, and I could go fairly deep into it, but I was wobbly and couldn't stay up very well. I've tried to look into this, but I haven't found anything I've felt was very helpful yet. Are the wobbles coming from a weak ankle? Calf? Core? All of the above? And what should I do to get better balance in these poses? TIA! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 10:31 AM PDT I (22F) fractured both hips, tibia, and fibia and lost a lot of flexibility last year. Ive never been very flexible because I've never put any effort into it, but now something as simple as sitting criss cross hurts my hips and I cant even touch my toes. I've started doing yoga and I love it, but I was wondering if it was possible to regain and surpass my previous flexibility? Ive set some goals for myself, but I want to be realistic. Id like to be able to do more advanced poses in the future, side and maybe middle splits, bird of paradise, ect. Is this possible? Ive gotten mixed responses. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:41 PM PDT Hello, i am here to get some information about yoga. I already tried to start with yoga. With time alone quarantine and not feeling well in general i really did nothing for my health and i wanted to change this with yoga. I started with some Videos and read online and just started doing things. It was nice at first but i had to stop because i was not able to move my back without pain. It did not feel like i overdid the exercise or that i tear something. My back just hurt the day later. Now i want to start again and before i do, i want to know some crucial things i maybe missed or are important in general. Some tips and tricks so i can enjoy this nice activity without hurting myself again. [link] [comments] |
Beginner question: how do I practice on my own? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:17 AM PDT Hi all, I've done yoga every single day for almost a month now with Adriene's great youtube videos and I love it. A common theme I see here is practicing on you own but I have no idea how to do that or if I am even ready for it. Do you just transition between different poses? Is there a video or article you can recommend for taking this step of integrating self practice on top of videos? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
What's your favorite reference for a home yoga studio? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 01:35 AM PDT I've been trying to redesign my space to make it more useful for my practice. If you have a favorite design for a space or a website tell me about it in the comments! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:13 AM PDT Hi, I know I can't receive medical advice here and I just want to clarify before I write more that I'm not asking for medical advice but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Ok so many years ago I hurt my lower back doing wheel pose. It took about 2 weeks of walking like my 100 year old grandmother before it healed. I continued yoga for years and then had to stop to be able to both work and sleep as a single mother. I started again recently since I have more time now. Eventually I felt like I could do the wheel pose again but I forgot to focus on my core and probably did it the wrong way. I got on the rebounder later to exercise and I noticed intense pain in my thorax (upper middle back) and had to stop when I noticed the pain wasn't just normal workout pain. It hurts when I bend over, run, lay on my back, roll over to my side from being on my back (going to sleep is pretty painful now). I was wondering if anyone else here has experienced this in the same area (thorax) and, if so, how long it took to recover and if you did anything that seemed to help. [link] [comments] |
What kind of exercises can I do to fix my tight hamstrings for grade 1 strain? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:33 AM PDT Hello, Recently, I've been diagnosed by my Sports Medicine physician of having a Grade 1 hamstring strain, and he told me the reason why it happened was because of my tight hamstrings. He recommended me to start with stretching my hamstrings to improve their flexibility and told me to look up a couple of stretches online. As someone new to stretching and flexibility, I honestly don't know where to begin. I thought it would be simply looking up a few exercises and start from there, but the more I read, the more confused I get since right now I thought all that I needed were static stretches, but some say that static stretches don't do anything and that I should focus on dynamic stretches. Others say that none of those two work, and that I should go with PNF. Some say when doing static stretches to hold it for 10-20 secs, others say anything less than 30 has no effect, others say that 60 is the goal, some say that doing static stretches is not actually achieving flexibility and fixing tightness since you only train your neuro system to relax, while others disagree and say that it actually works, etc. With all this information around the net, I really don't know who's right and who's wrong, so I was hoping someone with more experience will be able to guide me into what exercises I should do, and how my stretching regime should look like to fix my tight hammies. If anyone is willing to help, I'd gladly appreciate it. Thanks in forward. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 10:11 AM PDT I'm doing yoga continuously since 27 days (YWA) and I enjoy it and feel relaxed always. Since a few days I feel very uneasy a little but anxious. I have mild depression, I had very bad anxiety years ago. I don't want to feel anxious. Is it yoga? That triggered it. My exams have started. So I hope it's that and I'm fine so I can continue yoga because I love it so much. [link] [comments] |

Finding it hard to get to a class for advice over the last few months due to the pandemic. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Online YTT with Bhakti Yogshala Posted: 03 Oct 2020 11:20 PM PDT Hi, yogis! I just registered and paid for my 200hr YTT with Bhakti Yogshala for a measly price of $99.
