    Yoga while working

Does anyone here do yoga mini-routines or yoga poses while working? If so, which ones?

Does anyone else’s cat get way to playful and involved while you practice?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 04:46 PM PDT

I've picked up yoga again for the first time in a while, I always do it in my room with the door closed and somehow my cat's spidey senses notice and he comes, meows to be let in and joins be, but not without being super engaged and playful, when I finish he's immediately uninterested and leaves to do his thing.

I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with being close to the floor that sparks their curiosity or something.

Does anyone else have this happen to them with their cats?

What's your funniest/most embarrassing yoga moment?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 06:27 AM PDT

What can you remember from a yoga class or solo session that makes you laugh or cringe when you think about it?

Mine is yesterday's warrior 3 airplane where I thought I could close my eyes for the pose, only to open them just before smacking my forehead as my plane was crash landing into the corner of my bed.

What's different about Rocket yoga? Is it too advanced for me?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:44 PM PDT

Pre-covid I went to my local studio 6-7 times a week and practiced for 1-2 hours each visit. With lockdown, the studio switched to Zoom classes which I don't find as challenging anymore. The studio is reopening with a limited schedule and reduced class size which fill up quick. The only class that isn't consistently full is rocket yoga.

I watched a couple rocket yoga videos on YouTube and I can't discern what's different from an Ashtanga class. I've done Ashtanga, Hatha and Yin along with Vinyasa classes. None of the poses in the rocket yoga videos seem any different but I have it in my head that it's for more "advanced" or experienced yogis.

Struggling to do flying pigeon even after a year

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 11:49 AM PDT

I struggle with this yoga move and I find that the pressure I put on my upper arms causes them pain. I feel as if I am doing this move completely wrong yet I don't know what might be wrong with my form and it's getting quite frustrating. Does anyone have some good tips for this position?

Minimalist, covers all bases at-home yoga routine for longevity?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 03:08 PM PDT

    Greetings friends

Googled for this, looked in the faq and wiki here- and found the information on offer completely overwhelming. Hoping someone will understand what I'm after and be able to help out :-)

I train with calisthenics, weights, bit of running and what have you. I'm drawn to yoga because it has an overwhelming reputation for helping with joint health etc.

I'm looking for a simple routine- eg a youtube video- which will cover the broad strokes of:

    -stabilisation
    -mobility, flexibility
    -joint health

    whilst being:

    -not overwhelming to learn
-not taking forever (20 minutes would be good, 30 if necessary)
-having solid, safe (ie detailed) instructions (home practice is the only option for me, I'm aware of the downsides)

I did see this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOe7Y6h65pA .... would like to know if it's good- although with this I'd have to find elsewhere, and learn, instructions for each of the 20-odd poses!

    Corpse pose vs. butt

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 02:15 PM PDT

    A question about corpse pose...

I've been doing online videos with a few different instructors. They often talk about relaxing in corpse pose, with your back flat on the mat/pressing into the mat.

    However.

My butt is kinda round. ROUND. When I lie in corpse pose, my lower back is not on the ground. The pose itself is not especially relaxing. I can't get my back flat onto the ground without raising up my knees.

Does anyone else have this issue? Am I doing something obvious and wrong?

Something that really helped my yoga practice and confidence

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 10:25 AM PDT

Been doing yoga for 6 months now and have been making progress and building strength! But honestly, I feel intimidated while talking to some hardcore yogis, especially when trying to use proper lingo. I found this girl who breaks down how to say common words and it's really helped with my confidence. I know pronunciation isn't the most important thing in the world, but it's one less thing for me to feel self-conscious about, especially if I'm the heaviest / least athletic / least experienced person in the room already...

Hope this helps you guys as much as it helped me!

How to do ek pada rajakapotasana??

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:47 AM PDT

    Hi Yogis and Yoginis,

I have been practicing almost every day to learn ek pada rajakapotasana for 2 months now. I have been training my thighs, my back and neck. I am quite flexible with my thighs and back, however, I am still unable to do this asana! There are 2 ways of doing it. One is just bending your back and reaching for the leg. The second is to hold the leg and flip the elbow. I haven't been able to do both. I have scrounged for youtube videos where the instructor is easily able to do this asana. None of them have addressed my problems. The problems I have been facing are:

    1. When I try to directly reach my leg, my leg falls aside. Eg, when my right leg is the one I am reaching out for, my right ankle just falls to the left side. I do not know how to keep it upright.
    2. When I try to do the flip elbow style, my elbow just doesn't flip. How do I lift my leg and flip my elbow??

Please suggest me some tips that will help me with this asana. I really want to be able to do this.

How many times a week do you do yoga?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:21 AM PDT

Hi all, I'm a few days away from doing yoga every day for an entire month. Prior to this month I had never done yoga in my life but became immediately hooked. About half of these are 5 minute easy destress videos to help me establish the habit as I find myself needing a day or so of rest after pushing myself. The reason I'm asking this question and giving you a bit of backstory is I would like to establish a new routine after this month of every other or 4 days or what have you and want to know a realistic goal to aspire to. So, how many time a week do you practice and for how long? Thank you!

Yin yoga is harder than I thought

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:10 AM PDT

I've been following and doing classes with yoga with Kassandra and I think I've mostly been doing shorter 15-30 minute vinyasa style things. I knew her favorite style was Yin, so I decided to try it this morning, and I went all in with an hour first class.

Ultimately I felt very confused because I felt like the idea of relaxing the muscles to focus the stretch on the joints was constantly contradicted by the intense strain I had to put on some poses just to keep it's shape. For example, I do happy baby frequently, but it's just not possible to relax the muscles completely in that pose. What does she mean by this and the idea of finding my "edge" in conjunction?

    Unguided yoga practice

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 10:16 AM PDT

Hi fellow yogis! I am not an experienced yogi, but I'm an avid learner and have been practicing every day for about 6 months. Recently, I've stopped using guided practices as much in favor of letting my body guide me. I really enjoy this, but I sometimes find that I do a lot of the same things (much as I would in a class, though), or I want to incorporate a new pose that I've seen and am not sure how to gracefully get into that pose. Any resources, tips or tricks on "writing" a flow for your body? Especially ones that mix it up or will allow me to incorporate new and challenges poses.

    Yoga Attire

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 10:00 AM PDT

As I'm moving into my third month of daily (well Mon-Fri) yoga practice, I'm finding the changing of the seasons might alter my yoga attire or lack there of. I've been doing yoga sans clothes since I started - COVID eliminated the classroom yoga so I paid for a year subscription through an app & have been using it as my post run just before lunch practice, but as I move deeper into the stretches and poses I honestly cannot imagine wearing clothing of any sort to do yoga - am I a nut in the woods or are there other blossoming yoga practitioners like me? It's not a erotic or sexual thing at all - it just feels right. Thoughts? Am I alone?

Just started my Yoga journey, kind of worried about breathing

    Posted: 07 Oct 2020 09:37 AM PDT

Hey everyone. Just started my journey into this new but mindful journey of yoga. My first session today was absolutely amazing but I found my breathing was all over the place. I wasn't doing it at the same time as the instructor was telling me to do it on e.g. inhale and place you right leg backward and exhale as you stretch. I found myself inhaling and exhaling as I do this naturally instead. Was wondering if this gets easier over time?
