    Twisted lizard - first time!

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 06:36 AM PDT

I tried twisted lizard many times in the past and was never able to reach my foot. Hadn't tried in months because I thought 'oh I just can't do that'. Yesterday the teacher cued it by saying if you haven't done this pose just lift your back foot up. So I did that and thought what the heck I'll try to grab it and hey, what's that, oh it's my ankle!!!

So, never give up on trying a pose. I'm finally realizing that the story that "I can't do that" isn't serving me, in so many areas.

Is it better to practice every day for 15 mins or every other day for 30?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 03:59 PM PDT

Hey everyone, noob question but I was wondering about the ideal amount of time I should be dedicating to yoga. 15 mins every day or 30 every other day: which one is better?

I did crane to tripod headstand->

    to crowreallyquick to squat.

I did it three times, it was actually a total fluke the first time and I didn't get my legs all the way up but by the third time it was very much deliberate and not ungraceful.

    Man, I love yoga.

How to focus on goals accordingly?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 11:16 AM PDT

    Hi all :)

I have been practicing yoga (mainly vinyasa) pretty regularly since last November.

I am still a newbie, but I feel as though I have a lot of the fundamental poses down and want to start branching out for some more challenging poses.

For those of you who have already done this, how do you focus on these goals?

Ex. wheel with forearm, crow, birds of paradise, splits, etc.

Do you recommend working on specific poses one at a time under mastered or all at once? (hopefully this makes sense)

    The impossible Chaturanga

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:56 AM PDT

I'm about to give up here! So every time I try to do plank to Chaturanga I just collapse. I literally can't lower my body this way, my core gives in and I just fall on the floor(in a very peaceful way thou). I have read tips and tricks, I know I'm doing it the wrong way but my body just can't make it right.

I can hold High plank for a solid minute and even some more, the forearm plank as well, I have tried doing this on my knees and unfortunately it isn't any easier.

I desperately need help. What can I do? What do I need to practice? Does my core need to be stronger? Or are my arms still too weak?

Would I benefit from yoga blocks if I never notice a need for them?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 07:58 AM PDT

Instructors will often suggest yoga blocks for certain poses like half moon and extended side ankle, but I've never felt the need for them. Am I missing something? I'm somewhat tall at 5'8'', but I have a long torso rather than long legs, and I also have very long arms. Is it possible due to my anatomy that yoga blocks are unnecessary, or am I most likely missing something?

I started yoga 6 months ago during quarantine, so I've only had video instruction so far, and I've not had an instructor who can critique my form in certain poses. I do feel like I am arranging my body correctly though. Unfortunately, I live alone so I can't have anyone videotape me.

    Should I quit yoga classes?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 10:38 AM PDT

I was pretty good at yoga and practiced daily for a few years. I then stopped due to some medical issues. Recently I got back into it but I am not as flexible as I used to be. To give me a push I joined an online yoga class. It's about 2 hours and includes meditation as well. Although I really like the teacher and the class I am not in love with the timings. Plus sometimes I feel like being part of a class limits what I would like to do. The flow is great and I've learned some really good tips but I am very resistant to attending most days too.

Have you felt better with classes or self practice?

    "Easy" pose not so easy?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 09:38 PM PDT

    Hi all,

Relatively new to my practice, but when I am coming into easy pose, I notice it difficult to sit straight without causing pain to my lower back. Not to mention my knees definitely do not hit the ground.

Is this fairly normal? Is there a way to minimize this pain while holding this posture?

I'm a beginner yoga. Just wondering how is yoga different from stretching or other kinds of fitness?
