Posted: 21 Oct 2020 07:23 PM PDT Hello. I suffer from very tight hips, mostly due to a desk job and generally never being into stretching. This has really started to bother me, and I'm trying to push myself to be able to do a split. I've been following along YouTube videos, but I find my hips are so tight that it's very hard to do some basic poses. For example, I can't get my leg in a 90 degree angle when trying to do pigeon. I've tried to force my leg and hold it, but I feel like I'm about to snap something. I cannot even get down low for squats. How can I start to relieve the poor mobility of my hips, or at least get them open enough to be able to correctly do certain poses? [link] [comments]

I need advice Beyond Down Dog App Posted: 21 Oct 2020 11:35 AM PDT I am a 41 years old man, I am overweight (yet not quite obese) and I am quite new to yoga. I have been a enduring Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practicioner training at least five times a week for three years and the pandemic broke out. I was also lifting weights a couple of times a week. With Covid-19, I had to stop going to the gym. Then I started practicing yoga, since I saw the impressive impact of yoga on a couple of jiu jitsu practicioners. Before the lockdowns, I had a couple of yoga lessons, but unfortunately the instructor had left the gym all of a sudden. I recently discovered the Down Dog app, which I liked a lot. I have been practicing yoga for a month, usually twice a day, a 15 minute practice in the morning and a 30 minute practice in the evening. I am a newbie, bad at breathing and terrible at balances. I am practicing yoga for improving my fitness, flexibility, endurance and wellbeing, than spiritual reasons. I like vinyasa and hatha yoga. Now I don't want to go to a yoga class because of the pandemic. The question is I need advice for similar, customizable (preferably that also works through pc) apps, for practicing yoga at home. Down Dog is very good, but at the beginner-intermediate transition I think I need a bit more variety. I have been searching a lot but could not decide. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Do you feel achey after a number of days without yoga?? Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:56 PM PDT Or is it just arthritis?? Lol.... I've noticed that upon getting into a very regular exercise/yoga routine (daily or every other day) that if I go more then a few days without, I will feel very achey and stiff. It's as if my body has become accustomed to being stretched and moving..I am 26 btw [link] [comments]
Poses/modifications for C7-T1 fusion? Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:02 PM PDT Hi, 24m here. Recently had an MRI and discovered I have a partial fusion of my C7-T1. The doctor said it's congenital. I am looking for poses and/or modifications of common poses that would be helpful for my condition. Side note, I've practiced yoga since age 18, mostly 26+2(bikram). [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Oct 2020 06:42 AM PDT Hi all, I'd like to start doing Yoga. Right now I'm working up to it and am just stretching for 20 minutes a day in the morning. I do have a roadblock in place and I'm wondering if anyone here has overcome something similar. I'm a male, and not tall (5 foot 7) and I have a stocky build. Thus, I have genetically short hamstrings. I've never been able to touch my toes reliably. I can do so now if I bend my legs, but if I try to straighten my legs they feel like they're going to explode. Think soccer player or gymnast build. I'm also turning 40 next year so I'm far less flexible than I used to be. I'm a long ways away from a proper downward dog but I've been stretching every morning trying to lengthen my hamstrings. I usually sweat and have shaky legs for a while after I stretch. i do notice a small improvement but wonder if it's worth pursuing. I'm willing to stick with it for 6 months if I can arrive in proper form. Anybody else start from a similar point and get anywhere? I have the intrinsic belief that I can restore flexibility (I was incredibly athletic when I was young and could do vertical/horizontal split) but I'm not sure if this is a realistic goal at my age. Need encouragement or discouragement. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Oct 2020 08:45 AM PDT New yin yoga teacher here. Most of my practice and teacher training centered around evening classes. The classes I'll be teaching at my studio will be at 1pm. Any tips are crafting a yin class for the afternoon time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Yoga for an injury prone martial artist Posted: 21 Oct 2020 07:27 AM PDT I am a martial artist and I lift weights. Is there a style/program of yoga that's geared towards athletes and injury prevention (lower back, rotator cuff, knees, etc.)? Or is that just all yoga? I went through the FAQ and saw Bikram but I heard that has to be done hot? Just trying to be as efficient and precise with my time and efforts as possible. Thanks! [link] [comments]
| Ashram recommendation in India that allows babies/children? Posted: 21 Oct 2020 07:44 AM PDT Hi, my wife and I met through yoga and are both instructors. We have a 7 month old baby and we want to travel to India and stay at an ashram and immerse ourselves fully in yoga. My wife has been there to stay before but we are looking for recommendations on specific ashrams that would be good to contact about staying there with our baby. Thank you in advance! Namaste.
