Ashtanga yoga: Practing yoga with a cervical spine injury? |
| Practing yoga with a cervical spine injury? Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:51 AM PDT Hello! I'm relatively young (26F) but my back feels a bit older (around 84). I got osteophytes, disc degeneration and some more fun things all along my cervical spine which gives me chronic pain since I was a teen, and in the last few years I tend to end up in the ER every couple of months taking opioids, and tbh not even those work properly, so I kind of gave up on meds - bummer, right? Anyway, I just started practicing yoga and I'm really excited about it, except when we start the closing sequence. I'm absolutely terrified to put any pressure on my neck, and maybe I'm doing it wrong but I'm so uncomfortable trying to do Halasana and the other closing postures that I generally give up at this part, even with the help of my professor. I would like to know if anyone with similar injuries got past this and saw some improvement on the pain? I'm thinking of going to the doctor again and asking if those postures are "safe" to my neck, but I thought I'd see if anyone here with experience could enlighten me first. I would appreciate any help, thank you. [link] [comments] |
