Just here to appreciate this sub and tell everyone here I love you.

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 04:12 AM PDT

This sub has been so, so instrumental in keeping me motivated to stay consistent in my practice, but more than that, it has been such a space of joy. I follow a slew of subs here on Reddit, and while they are all very interesting and add tremendous value, none compare to this sub. I didn't even realise I was doing it, but scrolling through here when I feel particularly anxious helps me calm down because everyone here is just so nice. 😭😭 And while I haven't kept track, I have definitely been getting on my mat every single day (or two) ever since I joined this sub; it's like my own pocket of motivation and accountability but without the accompanying guilt and/or shaming. So like, thank you. I literally love all of you here.

    Yoga Pay

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 07:06 PM PDT

Hello, I've been teaching yoga for over two years now through the Parks and Recreation District where I live. I get paid hourly to teach classes/attend staff meetings, etc. I recently added a class to my schedule at a local studio where they pay $5/student and $5/no shows. Since I've only been paid hourly before this for yoga- can someone tell me if $5/ student is a reasonable amount? At the moment the studio is operating at half capacity, allowing 8 students in the class at a time. Anyways, thanks to anyone who answers this. I think transparency around wage is important.

Down Dog to Lunge: Healthy Movement Pattern?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 02:00 PM PDT

In the transition from downward dog to lunge, I will round forward into plank and push away from the mat with my hands to create as much space as possible. Usually I'll be on my tippy toes at this point and my working leg is tucked close to my torso.

However, I find that to get my foot between my hands, I sometimes have to wing my knee out a little to step it forward in order to avoid picking up my hand or needing to scoot my foot 3-4 inches forward. I've seen some people do this, but I wonder if this is an unhealthy habit to form?

Is picking up the palm a better option? I've only been able to step through "cleanly"/without winging my knee out one time and have not been able to repeat the action.

    Coffee and Yoga

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 04:25 AM PDT

They are probably my two passions, but it seems that in general only tea is consumed in the yoga community

Normally wake up, drink a glass of water, practice 1 hour of Ashtanga. 30 mins after, I drink my daily cup of coffee.

For me is essential to use high quality coffee (speciality coffee)

Whats your relationship with coffee and yoga?

I play video games. I have RINGFIT! I want to do yoga... I have a trans bodytype. Will-- I worry about outfits & being accepted or making people uncomfortable.

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 12:01 PM PDT

So---- those are my concerns. Any ideas or tips? There's currently a pandemic so I'm not about to try and find a community right now. At home I usually just wear leggings some t-shirt & jogging shoes but that wouldn't be a great outfit for public. Jeans wouldn't be terribly comfortable.

This has been a whole thing for a while now. I live in an apartment with a gym and am a bit too nervous to try it out for fear of what people will think or see.

I imagine I'm not the only individual with insecurity or being afraid of creeping people out or-- Something I guess. Maybe I'm being weird I guess.

To those who have improved their overall strength and are able to do advanced poses, have you been able to do this practising yoga alone or do you do other resistance training?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 04:10 AM PDT

Working from home I've been enjoying fitting in short yoga practices into my day, and in the past have struggled with maintaining several exercise habits at once. Trying to fit in too many things has lead me to never having had a regular fitness habit at all. I'm going to focus on yoga for now as doing something regularly will be much better I know, but I'm just curious as to whether people have had success in advancing their yoga poses greatly without doing any other type of resistance training. I'm sure there's plenty of you out there but would love to hear about this to motivate me to keep my regular yoga practice up and be more excited about some goals!

    Need some help:/

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 03:22 PM PDT

So I'm just getting into yoga and I want to make it a lifestyle for me. I'm super tight and anxious mentally. I'm on Day 3 Yoga with Adriana on YouTube. The reason I want to make this a lifestyle for me is because I did one class and felt amazing after, also I'm tired of being tight all the time and I'm only 25 years old.

My question is this. Do you think the best way to get flexible is by doing yoga ? Or by just holding a single stretch for a minute and moving into another ?

My goal is to get myself back into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I currently can't train due to hip pain. My range of motion is terrible in my hips :(

Thank you all and God bless 🙏🏻

    Forward fold, high lunge?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 11:28 AM PDT

Why are here no picture of people achieving the perfect forward fold, or a perfectly balanced high lunge???

Is everyone confortable with them? Am I the only one who finds them challenging, I'm a little concerned I'm sorry.

    Beginner's Video For The Uncoordinated?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 08:17 AM PDT

I need something where they teach me the moves in advance. I don't get how you can watch the video and do the moves at the same time. I want something where the workout is only about 15 minutes.

    Any suggestions?

    Critique Needed!

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 06:14 AM PDT

I started doing yoga 3 months ago; learning through Youtube (Adriene, Down Dog, Cassandra). But not sure I'm doing it right since I don't have anyone to correct my poses and posture. Thought I'd post a little clip here and ask for feedback regarding:

    • Down Dog
    • Plank
    • Chaturanga

    and the transition between them.

Let me know what I'm doing right and wrong? Please be kind tho <3

Can't lift one leg straight up

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 01:07 AM PDT

Okay, I've been trying to google this for a while now and I don't seem to find anything related to my actual problem. English isn't my first language, so I think I just don't know the right search words or something.

I'm still a novice at yoga, but have been going to some different type of classes and doing some "Yoga with Adriene"-videos at home. My flexibility is decent and I have a lot of strength in my legs from a lot of hiking (and overweight, if I'm being honest).

So during my last class in studio, we were supposed to lay flat on our back and lift one leg straight up at a time, so at 90 degree angle from the floor. I - did -not -stand - a - chance! I could get my leg at maybe 45 degrees and then I was practically shaking because it was so hard. It seems my problem is in the upper front of my thigh/hip (see picture, which I borrowed from the internet), but I don't know if it's a flexibility thing or a strength thing.

    https://preview.redd.it/9cap8f7rmfr51.png?width=626&format=png&auto=webp&s=5df2546b37f8cca3fd9647f12618082d621c1fcf

I know we're not supposed to compare ourselves with other yogis, but since I was struggling so hard, I peeked at the others in class (mostly older women this time, they were discussing young grandkids before class) and they all did it with seemingly no effort!

Do anyone have any routines or exercises to help with this? It's like I've discovered a previously neglected muscle that's either tight or weak. The rest of the routine was supposed to be a core workout, but I only felt it in my thigh/hip-area.

I am in need of a safe yoga retreat due to my underlying health issues , I need a break from this running life in a clean and natural surroundings with yoga instructors as I am fairly new to yoga.

I am looking for 14-21 days of yoga retreat.

Any recommendations would be helpful as I tried a few and they are all closed in Corona times.
