Ashtanga yoga: Haṭhābhyāsapaddhati, the origin of our dynamic practice? |
| Haṭhābhyāsapaddhati, the origin of our dynamic practice? Posted: 21 Nov 2020 12:26 AM PST Hi all, I was reminded by a recent post on pulling exercises that I had been searching for this text for a long time in trying to trace the origins of our particularly dynamic approach to asana practice which is quite a departure from traditional Hatha yoga's approach to asana. A lot can be speculated about KPJ's, Iyengar's and even Krishnamacharya's motives for their systems, same goes for Sivananda. Most trace dynamism to Surya Namaskar/popular exercise, and asana to haṭhayogapradīpikā and co. Roots of Yoga is good, But I want to go further back and explore more instead of just relying on the usual texts. I just want authoritative permission to justify the fact that I like jumping around. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a translation of it. I emailed the official translation project a year or two ago but got no response. Have any of you literary wizards been able to get your hands on it? Or maybe even something similar? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Nov 2020 08:52 AM PST I practice yoga fairly regularly. I've been doing some research and it seems yoga is lacking in pull exercises. Does anyone do any other pull exercises to complement their yoga routine? I really don't like exercise except for my yoga practice, so any recommendations to complement or do along with a yoga practice would be great. I do have some resistance bands I could use, but no weights. I'm not opposed to getting some though. Thank you, yogis! [link] [comments] |
