| How to prevent excessive day-dreaming ? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 10:21 PM PST Hello beautiful people of r/Meditation, I'm having a serious problem of daydreaming. Most of the times I think about something else when I am doing something. So why I'm posting this in r/Meditation ? Cause I think meditation will calm my mind and will lessen my daydreams. I've noticed that the only times when I don't day dream are when are when I'm coding ( am a CS undergrad ), reading a book or anything, watching videos, talking to people or doing something which requires an interaction from me. Times when I day dream a lot :
Now, I personally believe that this "day-dreaming" is effecting my day-to-day work as it wastes a lot of my time. I think I waste a good 2 hours everyday on day-dreaming. So, my question to you guys is that how can I fix this disease of mine ? [link] [comments] |
| Is meditation working through feelings or the thoughts that come afterwards? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 03:58 PM PST Every once in a while I get interested again in meditation and I do it and in the first couple of days it's amazing the clarity I have afterwards. But after a couple days my anxiety slowly creeps in every new session and I end up crying about my disappointments in life and get scared and give up because the clarity no longer comes. I go to therapy, where my therapist and I explore my feelings and the physical associations with them (ex: my stomach hurts when I'm anxious, my chest hurts when I'm angry, etc). She asks me to describe them and I cry because I always do and once we go through it usually the pain is less intense at least for a moment. So is meditation sitting with that anxious or angry pain? Can it include crying? Or is that preliminary, and meditation is what comes after the pain on the surface? [link] [comments] |
| Locked down in a room in dubai Posted: 25 Nov 2020 11:45 PM PST Hi all, I've just had the most amazing trip ever. Full expenses paid for to Dubai, where I had the time of my life. Now the last day I was tested positive for corona so I have to quarantine in a hotel room for I think atleast 14 days. This will be a mental test so I thought why don't I come to this sub to ask some tips on types of meditations and things to do to help myself grow during this time i'm locked up. THANKS in advance [link] [comments] |
| Does anyone get anxious when they meditate? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 09:41 PM PST I'm a complete beginner. Just started practicing mindful meditation this week. Going for five minutes at a time, 3-4 days a week to start. I get we're just supposed to let a thought float in and out. However I spend the five minutes so anxious of when they next thought will pop in. I focus on breathing, the darkness of my brain, but I'm still just sitting there with this anticipatory anxiety. Any advice or thoughts? Appreciate it. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Nov 2020 01:25 PM PST I'm slowly coming to realize that in many ways a lot of what I've hated about myself all of my life has been different aspects of my ego. I've had a hurt little child in me most of my life driving extreme insecurity, fear, codependancy, and more. I've tried to kill that little child with hatred for far too many years. Instead I've needed to smother him with love and kindness. I have resented for so many years the fact that I was socially anxious, lonely, that I wanted companionship even sex. I hated myself for being "weak", unable to do the things in life I felt I "should" be able to do. Of course I wanted not to be anxious, of course I wanted friends, intimacy, to be seen. Every living being on this planet wants of these things. I cry now that I think of how hard I have been on myself. Hating myself for not being some perfect robot. And all of that hatred ironically only served to strengthen the ego. Unless you plan on becoming a monk you aren't likely to make all that much progress in ridding yourself of the ego. It's honestly not even a goal you may wish to pursue. It's not a part of ourselves to hate. Indeed it keeps us alive and has valuable things to tell us about our wants and needs that may or may not be currently met properly. Of course we get in trouble when we feed it night and day and here meditation can be of IMMENSE benefit allowing us to kindly listen to it while not putting it in the drivers seat OR crueling trying to ignore or abuse it. If we go around hating our ego we will find ourselves hating so much in this world. The world can indeed at times be ego driven and shallow. But that is not to be hated, it's just to be observed, and not fed. I will add that this is not an argument to observe cruelty and mistreatment. Action must be taken to make the world a kinder better place. But hatred as an engine for change only seems to beget more hatred. [link] [comments] |

| Is my Zazen and Noting Meditation Going in the Right Direction? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 10:00 PM PST Hi r/Meditation, So far, I'm happy with the benefits I'm receiving from both Zazen and Mental Noting. As a beginner, I only Zazen two times a day, for 5 minutes each. As for what happens during it, I just recently noticed that those thoughts that involve my voice are louder than my other thoughts, and tend to distract me the most. Despite this, I also enjoy how my vision softens, and how calm my heart and breathing get near the end of it. As for mental noting, I only do it when I'm out and about (e.g., driving, leaning against a wall waiting). While focusing on my breathe, I tend to note whatever distracts me as well as what I'm feeling, and then move back to focusing on my breathe. Compared to Zazen, this practice does give me what I consider insights, and so I feel incredibly rewarded by it. That's it so far. If you feel something is off or wrong, please let me know. I don't want to get deeper into these two practices, not realizing I'm doing something that might be harmful down the road. P.S. if there are other meditation types you think I should try, feel free to let me know! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 26 Nov 2020 01:44 AM PST I experience that when I'm meditating, I try to keep my back and shoulders as straight as possible to avoid having bad posture. In the end it becomes my focus and I cannot really relax and ease my mind. How do you guys tackle this problem? [link] [comments] |
| Is the flow state a kind of meditative state? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 07:35 PM PST For those eho dont know the flow state is when someone is totally immersed on the task theyre doing, its basically happines and commitment, im a competitive gamer and a skater and since i started meditating im entering this focused state way more easily and tgerefore beeing more efficient and happy with the progress im doing, its important to notice that this flow state is very volatile you dont "enter" flow state it kinda happens and when it happens you know it did and if you think a lot about it it just goes away, its super weird but really helpful for everything youre doing [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 26 Nov 2020 12:44 AM PST My father recently retired. Can anyone think of any books promoting meditation or yogic lifestyle that use this transitory phase as a persuasion to take up a regular practice? He goes to hatha yoga classes already, he's receptive to these practices. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 26 Nov 2020 12:39 AM PST Fun fact; When you will realise that the present moment is the only moment. Then you will notice that everything moves together. By that I mean that it isn't so that something happens and then something else happens. Everything moves together. And because of this, things can't be separate. Everything is one. | Has anyone completely beat Anxiety?? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 05:06 PM PST I've recently started meditating and after a good session i'll be pretty anxiety free, but it doesn't last forever. | Posted: 25 Nov 2020 03:25 PM PST For anybody who's interested this is an honest take on how it's affected my life after only a month and a half of persistent practice (around half an hour a night, although it could be alot longer a day if I meditate in segments and with the use of mindfulness). For a start I'm enjoying things again, I listen to music alot and notice the intricacies that go into the mixes and effort that went into making it, I watch TV and get lost in the story, I read a book and paint a picture of the scenes and characters in my head. Running is amazing too, I try to be mindful whilst doing it, I even have to be if I really want to power through it and feel like I'm in the zone. Social situations are vastly improved, I don't feel like people are out to get me, like I'm being judged or I should feel like I deserve to be judged. I'm just there, I'm me and I'm in their presence. It's still hard sometimes but that's okay, because it's not overwhelming and I have a new method of handling it if it gets there. I started learning French, I'm still at the bare basics and I may be there for a while but again, that's okay, because my new found focus has took me to that place. I didn't understand meditation at first, but now I can just appreciate everything about it. Smoking weed took me to a place where it was affecting my practice, I thought positive at first but recently very badly so I cut it out. That's just one of the "realizations" mentioned in the title, but I'd be here for a long time if I started delving into how I think and what makes me tick so I'll save that for another time. I ran like a mad man tonight and meditated for 20 minutes and I'm going to stay healthy and clear minded from now on because my mental health has never been better. I hope anybody who's new to meditation reads this :) it's not a cure all, it's helped me and I hope it will continue to and I try and spread the word to other people. Thank you for reading. | Posted: 25 Nov 2020 02:01 PM PST I have generalized anxiety and hyper vigilance. Possibly ADHD but haven't been tested for it yet. I've read so many things saying how great meditation is and I've been trying to make it work for years but ultimately I can never find peace. Is there any way outside of drugs that can help me? | Maintaining "trance", help please? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 05:32 PM PST I am looking for advice and help on maintaining that deep meditative state. I go through the deep relaxation, amd can trigger it multiple times in one sitting, but tye moment i feel myself slipping into trance, i subconsciously pull myself out. I've been attempting prolonging and maintaining this state by trying to get use to the feeling. Im redoing, and attempting to not pull back out of it, but i was wondering if anyone has any pointers or advise. [link] [comments] |
