    Yoga For Self Love

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 08:13 AM PST

Please delete if not allowed, I thought I'd share this routine I found this morning that I absolutely loved. It's about 50 minutes and it was at a very nice moderate level where I felt relaxed but still brought up a little sweat when you flow. It's super supportive, yummy, and sweet and helped me feel very good today.

Idk how everyone here feels about Yoga with Adriene but I find her funny and so supportive with her routines. She's got something for everyone and everything. She defiantly helps me keep on top of my practice that is easy to follow.

[COMP] Haven't seen my parents since the beginning of quarantine and they were delighted to see my head stand! I always tilt slight to the side because I injured my back once and I think I lost a bit of feeling there

Trying to get started, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of little instructions on most yoga videos

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 03:51 PM PST

Anyone has any suggestions of videos for absolute dummies?

I tried Adrienne as seems like she's widely suggested but it's incredibly hard to relax while turning to pay attention while trying to hold the pose, and every 3 seconds she will say move your fingers like this here, move your leg like that, raise leg, arm here, back like that, feels like I have to be mindful of a dozen things at the same time for every pose and before I have done the first instruction I am already behind on the next two, even when the poses seemingly are easy they aren't simple, doesn't help that I have ADHD and trouble focusing along with the anxiety I am trying to work on, but I absolutely can't get into it, just stresses me out even more.

    Thicker mats for bad knees?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 07:38 PM PST

Hey, so I'm buying my sister a yoga mat for Christmas and she has these little bumps on her knees from growing that make it next to impossible to kneel. Should I buy her a thicker mat? Or does anyone know of like knee guards or something I can buy with a regular mat? She basically wants to get started doing regular yoga but I'm not sure what to buy. Anything helps!! Ty

Do you know some yoga poses to help relax the tailbone/butt/lower back area?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 02:02 PM PST

I got injured and yoga helps me to reduce the pain. Something that loosens the muscles would be great!

    Thanks in regards ;)

Is my yoga teacher teaching the right way?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 11:40 AM PST

    Hello!

For context ; I am from India but been living in Dublin where I had been doing 26/2 hot yoga series. The teacher never did any adjustments because it was a class of 20 students or so.

Also always told us to bend our knees.

I am in India for a couple of months and have an experienced hatha yoga teacher teaching me 1:1 but he doesn't care about pain at all! He says in order to initially mould the body it needs to stretch its existing ranger. We do personal yoga 5 days a week and every single day is intense. For example in butterfly pose he stood on my knees to help with hip/ inner thigh opening.

Anyone has any experience with strict yoga teachers or traditional yoga teachers? Or studies with iyenger?

    Kindest, have a happy practice.

I’d like to start doing a lot more yoga and would love to work up to more complex moves. Should I get a mat with alignment lines?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 05:31 PM PST

I'm looking at the Alo Chakra Warrior Mat (it has alignment lines). I think a more expensive mat will help motivate me to spend more time doing yoga than I would otherwise :)

Will the alignment lines help my practice significantly?

[COMP] Would like to hear some feedback on my Downward Dog pose

The part which is not really clear for me is whether or not should I bend my back more at this point, lowering my head to the mat. I see a lot of variations on the Internet, somebody has their head on the mat while others don't.

Is it worth buying a Down Dog Subscription?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 04:43 AM PST

    Greetings everyone!

Last Sunday I decided to install Downdog Yoga, and I've done a few practices with it. I've been practicing with Yoga With Adriene, but now I feel like I need something new. Downdog Yoga has a 60% discount now, and I'm thinking about buying a year subscription, but I'm still not sure if this application is worth it?

Looking for 10-15 minute morning yoga workout playlists or challenges

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 04:55 AM PST

I am almost finished with Yoga with Kassandra's 30 day morning yoga movement. All her videos are 10 minutes long and I get an email every day. I find that this is what keeps me most consistent as it gets me up, get me moving and I can do another workout or yoga flow later in the day. Where can I find more like this?

Fractured my left ankle as a kid. How can I find balance again?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 01:13 PM PST

TLDR: Fractured my ankle as a child and now I can hardly do left side balances on my foot.

    Hi Everyone!

When I was like 7, I fractured my left ankle pretty badly (It was '97 I was running around a car in foam platforms, as a Spice Girl would). I guess it didn't heal correctly and now I have no balance on my left foot. I can tell there is also some learned helplessness a little bit because I get nervous when it's time to switch to my left foot. The right side is totally fine and I have no problem doing poses so I know it IS possible.

Does anyone have any tips on getting stronger after a loooooooong ago injury?

    Yoga Injury from Yesterday

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 09:11 AM PST

    Hi all,

Update: Talked to a physician via video chat. His advice: Rest it, take Aleve, and monitor through the weekend. Probably a muscle strain.

Original: Yesterday I moved from side plank to high plank. As I lowered down to the floor from plank, I tweaked something in my upper back/shoulder and neck on my right side (was weight bearing side in side plank). I'm in a considerable amount of pain and have limited mobility at the moment. Any thoughts? I'm considering going in to see a physician, just thought I would see how it feels after I loosen up a bit this morning. I'm trying to rest it as much as possible. I understand r/yoga is not a medical resource. I'm just feeling concerned because it's the first time I've been injured in yoga and I value your support. TIA

Edit: My teacher, Silvia Mordini's, advice for anyone who wants to avoid this: "The lesson I learned in my own transition from side plank to plank as a result of seeing this same injury in a class I took years ago was that when we return to plank our weight is uneven. **Therefore take time to even out the weight in your hands. From there (this is really important as well) protract your shoulders blades so they are strengthened by back body. Then if in doubt (this is all key) put knees down to move through the basic vinyasa. As a result when I transition from side plank I will go to downward dog to reset. Skipping the pushup. Or I will always put my knees down and do cobra, never up dog to be extra safe. That's what I do to avoid this." (Of course she taught me all of this in YTT too.)

    Chest Stand Goal

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 08:51 AM PST

Hi! I wanted to challenge myself to achieve a chest stand this quarantine. I can do puppy pose and extended puppy comfortably and against the wall with blocks. What would a good next step be?
