What does your average yoga week look like?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 05:38 PM PST

    Hi everyone!

So I read a lot about which asanas are good to work on specific tight spots, which types of yoga are good for flexibility, strength, stress relief, etc... What I almost never see though is a discussion about the broader routines (how many days to practice, which practice to do on which day, etc...). I know there are a lot of devotees to Ashtanga out there, I tried it for about two years and I felt that I was putting too much stress on my body and that I was just generally not advanced enough yet for that kind of practice. I have since incorporated Yin and hatha yoga into my practice and my mood has improved an insane amount.

My current weekly routine consists of 2 days of a faster paced vinyasa class, 2 days of hatha style flexibility and balance training, and 2 days of yin yoga with one day off. Is it okay to jump back and forth between styles like this or would it be better to stick to one consistent practice and fully reap the benefits? Also I'd love to hear about how other people's routines look (if you have one) and how it has affected your results, stress, energy levels, etc... Namaste!

How do I stop hurting my wrist in down dog?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 05:39 PM PST

I've seen posts about shifting your weight into your fingers not your wrists, but it's so much easier said than done. Are there other ways to save my wrist? If not, how do I shift my weight into my fingers? Thank you loves x

Supporting Men's Health in Movember through Yoga

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 11:01 AM PST

This is an advert so go ahead and take down, but I promised some people that I would at least try to share the information and seeing as I don't use any other social media outlet this is the best I got.

My friends and I are taking a yoga class every Sunday for in November. It's all on video calls so you can do it for home. Its yoga class to raise awareness for men's mental health. There's 100+ people in the class thus far so you don't have to have the video on if you don't like.

    More information: https://www.wellnesswarrior.online/

50% of ticket purchases go to the Movember foundation, which is a good thing.

    Manduka

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 06:01 PM PST

Why doesn't manduka say anything on their website about their mats needing to be seasoned? Mine just arrived, and is now curing like a ham in my bathroom cause it's the only place I could lay it out flat without my pets disturbing it. Kind of wish I had known it needed that, I might have gone with a different mat! Honestly still excited to try it out, just disappointed that I have to wait a whole 24 hours

    Progressing your Asana practice

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:22 AM PST

    Hi all

I've seen it posted in a lot of places that a teacher training is a great way to progress your asana's, I'm just wondering how possible is it to progress your practice without this level of training, is self practice and studio time and self study enough?

    Middle back pain from yoga?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 02:44 PM PST

Does anyone else ever experience bad middle back pain after practising yoga?

For 3 days now, I've had bad back pain on my right side. It's tender to the touch, but I can still walk, bend and there's some flexibility. On Monday the pain was so bad, I was flinching when I was walking. Thankfully that intensity of pain is gone, but my back is still super tender and painful. The only reason I can think of this pain is that I've resumed practising yoga.

For a week now, I've been getting back into yoga classes. I was doing 60 minute yoga flow sessions. I didn't do them everyday, more like every other day. I've done flow classes before and I don't push myself past my limits. But it's been about 7-8 months until now since I've done a real flow session.

I didn't think the sessions could cause me this much pain. My last session was Sunday. Is it possible the yoga classes could cause this pain?

    FALLING OUT OF MALASANA

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 02:14 PM PST

Hi yogis! I've been getting back in to yoga and it's been going really well BUT I'm having issues with my yogi squat. I've got very open hips so I can get in tk this pose with little resistance but I always fall out of it. I can't stay in it without being against a wall or holding on to a weight in front of me. I always fall backwards unless I'm on my toes. If I want my heels flat on the floor I fall.. does this mean I just need to work on my core strength? If I hunch over and let my ankles collapse inward I can stay in the pose easily, it's just having the correct form that stops me! Many thanks 🧘‍♀️

Transitioning from boat pose to chaturanga through an arm balance / floating from downward facing dog to forward fold with straight legs seems so impossible. Can legs be too long for certain positions, or should I just keep practicing?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:55 AM PST

I've been practicing this with blocks now too, and I'm able to lift my body into an L sit, but every time i try crunch my legs and swing them back it just doesn't fit between my arms and the floor. I tried so hard I tore open my toenail on the mat :( It's the same when I try to jump from downward facing dog to a forward fold, I can't seem to keep my legs straight ánd land them between my hands, and I get this almost painful electric nerve spark between my shoulder blades..

I do believe practice will make it better, and I'm trying not to force anything too much, but I'd like to achieve this eventually. But right now it just seems impossible, and I was wondering, maybe my body is just not built for it, and my legs are just too long? (This is basically me asking someone to tell me I'm wrong, haha). I mean I guess i need to work on more flexibility in my upper back or something? How?! Any tips or experiences are welcome :)
