Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.
    • We are not medical professionals. If something hurts and it doesn't go away within a week's rest, see one!

    Soreness near hip flexor

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 09:06 PM PST

So i have been stretching quite regularly now for over a year and have seen alot of progress, working towards front splits goals. However now Im having this pain near my hip flexor on one side, that i feel everytime my upper leg goes past 90 degrees in hip flexion, knees bent. I dont think its the hip flexor muscle, its more superficial and actually more towards the upper part of the quads.. It feels like a bruise or charlie horse when enough pressure is applied to the relaxed leg. So far it has not impeded me at all in any regular movements or my stretching routines, but i just feel that annoying bruised feeling when i go through that range of motion. Anyone have a clue what it could be?

    Muscles are sore after stretching

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 03:33 PM PST

I stretched for the first time in a while yesterday and today when I woke up my thigh muscles HURT. Its more like "leg day" type of pain rather than the overstretched type. I did workout the day before but yesterday when I woke up my legs didn't hurt. Why is this?

After 10+ years of stretching, I am still unable to touch my toes. What else can I try?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 05:25 PM PST

Background: I (17F) started gymnastics when I was 6. I quit after three years, and joined martial arts, which I still do. This means that I have done basic stretches (stand and reach, etc.), as well as a few more intense ones twice a week for most of my entire life. Yet for some reason, I've never improved. Despite this, I am persistant in becoming flexible.

For the last few months, I've even been stretching daily, but still have yet to see any gain. I really don't want to give up, so I'm searching for a new angle.

Should I do different stretches? Have regular massages? Wear pink on Wednesdays? I'm willing to try literally anything that might help me improve even the slighest bit.

Why does it feel like my knee is digging into the ground in my splits?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 04:32 PM PST

I'm super close to my front splits (~1-2 inches) and I noticed that my back knee hurts every time I do it because it feels as though it's digging really hard into the floor (even on carpet or my yoga mat). I usually do the dancer splits to avoid it but I'd like to have a full squared split. I don't know if this is important but I also have some mild hyperextension. Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

Sore knee from doing front splits

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:38 PM PST

For the past few days, one of my knees has been getting sore after doing the front splits (the other is perfectly fine). It feels like it's not muscles, but joint tissue. I am a male in my late forties, and worried getting an old-man type 'bad knee'...

Has this happened to any other? What should I do? I really don't want to lose my splits ability. Would substituting pancakes instead be enough to maintain the flexibility involved?

    Thanks for an tips.....
