Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.

8 months later!!! I CAN TOUCH THE FLOOR WITH MY PALM!

First time sliding unassisted into middle splits, lost my balance a bit at the bottom though this will need to be improved. First time I started training splits was the 7th of June this year, key is strengthening this range, I never did any passive stretching. I will post a link to my routine I used

Training flexibility while recovering from an ankle fracture

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:00 AM PST

Hi Reddit! Three months ago I broke my ankle during ice skating. I've already gone to a physiotherapist numerous times and right now I can do this:

    - Walk normal (pain-free for about 10 minutes)
    - I have the balance on my broken ankle back for about 70%
    - Walk on my tiptoes

    What I can't do:

    - My dorsiflexion will be minimal until a certain screw is removed (until then: no 'normal' running or jumping, a lot of yoga positions are impossible too)
    - My foot still swells up a lot towards the end of the day

Before this, I almost had my splits. I'm not naturally flexible, so I will lose this (or already have) if I don't keep up with it (and I need it for ice skating). Since I can't do a proper warm-up, it seems very difficult to do a flexibility routine.

    My questions:

    - What is a safe way to still get more flexible, without the need to do a full warm-up? I mainly focus on my leg flexibility.
    - What exercises can I do without the need for a lot of dorsiflexion?
    - Since I still can't put constant weight on my bad ankle, what exercises can I do?

Examples of exercises I used to do constantly but aren't possible right now: holding deep lunges, downwards dog, everything that looks like a squat

    Thank you!

How does my splits warm up look in terms of positioning? I feel like I have trouble lifting my chest and not arching my back?

(17M) Can I get the splits in a year?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 04:26 PM PST

I'm 17 and want to achieve the full splits by 2022. I'm athletic and training Kickboxing and have been doing basic stretches for a couple months now. Can you recommend me some important stretches I need to do to achieve my goal? And some extra advice?

    thanks :)

    YouTube recommendations!

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 04:23 PM PST

    Hi everyone!

I lift 4 days a week and cardio/hiit twice a week, but I really want to work on my flexibility.

I have super tight hamstrings and would like to work on my splits! Ideally would like a video that's about 20 mins max that I could add to my workout routine at the end since my muscles will be all warmed up.

Also, does is it better to do the same video over and over or change it up every day? Any advice and recommendation is appreciated :) thanks in advance!!

Stretches for the lateral head of the hamstring

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 08:04 AM PST

Does anyone have any good stretches for the lateral side of the hamstring? I recently tore my hamstring right over the lateral tendon. Whenever I do hamstring stretches I seem to feel a huge emphasis on the more medial side, and almost none over that lateral tendon area. I'd love to find something that can isolate or atleast get over there. Thanks
