I’ve been working on my middle split this year and I’ve come a long way, but was wondering if anyone had notes on my form? I’ve been flying blind with no real coaching so all constructive criticism is welcome :)

Different types of pain while stretching

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 04:40 PM PST

When I stretch, sometimes I get a "pain" in my muscles that feels nice, like the burn from a workout. If I gently hold my position until it goes away, I can get deeper into a stretch. This happens in my hamstrings if I bend my knees ever so slightly in pike.

But in some positions, I get a pain that feels like I'm stretching something that shouldn't be stretched. For example, this happens if I lock my knees in pike -- down the sides of my calves and the back of my knee, mostly. How do I get rid of that? It doesn't feel like something I'm supposed to stretch through. If I hold the stretch when this happens, my feet start to tingle. Is this is my fascia? Or nerves? Would strength training or foam rolling help?

I have hypermobile knees (and other joints), so does this mean I'm actually not supposed to lock out those joints when I stretch?

Please let me know if this is something I'm supposed to stretch through and it alleviates over time, or if I should avoid this feeling.

    Thanks everyone!

Looking for follow along videos on mobility routines that cues the next move

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 05:52 PM PST

I am looking for follow along videos that focuses on mobility with audio cues of the next move.

I found many excellent follow along videos, but they only consist of the person doing the moves and music. I don't want to have to constantly looking at the screen to see when he/she has moved to the next move. It would be great to find videos where the person announces something like "we are now moving to the (name of movement)...switching to the other side".

So far I have found a mobility rountine by Tom Merrick that is pretty good but looking for other ones.

    Thanks!

Soreness near my seat bones from working on front splits. Anything to worry about?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 08:55 AM PST

I'm a climber and train regularly but wanted to work in flexibility during lockdown. I can already touch my toes easily in a forward fold, standing and sitting. Wanted to work my front splits for the first time ever!

I always warm up lots and things have been going really well the last four weeks. But during the last two weeks of stretching, whilst I've found a new level of deepness in my front splits, it has been leaving the muscle (tendons?) around my seat bones on both sides really sore.

Originally I was stretching 5x a week, but the first time this soreness came on I went down to every other day in order to recover, thinking it was regular DOMS, but after two weeks the soreness hasn't subsided yet.

Has anyone experienced this? Can I stretch through it or should I be strengthening another muscle to compensate?

    Any help appreciated, thanks!

    How to keep hips square?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 07:20 AM PST

Hey all! I'm fairly flexible, able to do splits easily, but my hips are not square at all when I do them. How do I go about getting them squared? Should I start my spit differently or do the split as I usually do, then try to square them out? Thanks!
