When I sit down to meditate, is as if a signal goes out to the universe that says, "Okay, time to send this guy every imaginable thought, and right now!" And all I try to do is sit there and say, "There's a thought, but don't engage with it, or, Here comes a thought, let it keep going."

And none of that adds up to a very fulfilling meditation session.

Don't Set Timers on your Meditation

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 03:32 PM PST

I don't know if I'm the only one who does this but when I would go to meditate I would set a timer for however long I thought fit into my day and what I had to do(usually 20 mins). But, I have recently started just setting a stopwatch and tracking how long I meditate without a timer and I am usually meditating for at least 30 mins without noticing. This probably means that I was cutting myself off before and actually needed to meditate more in my days. I think it's a good idea to use stopwatches and not timers for meditation if you want to track how much you meditate. Looking back it seems obvious. Don't limit or confine your Meditation just do it!

    Even when you aren't meditating...

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:58 PM PST

...may you strive to be present and mindful in all that you do.

Enjoying that new PlayStation game? Immerse yourself in the world. Be the character. Don't glaze over all the details. Become them.

Reading that new book you bought? Truly take in all the words, let them soak in.

Going grocery stopping? Be aware of the sights and sounds in the store. Notice all the items in the aisle, their placement, and any other details.

Even browsing Reddit can be a practice of mindfulness and presence if you are truly paying attention and focusing in on the content.

In a way, approaching life this way has made my daily routine in and of itself a meditative practice as well.

TIL My dad meditates too, but doesn’t call it that

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 10:19 AM PST

I spoke with my dad on the phone for a while yesterday and we started getting in depth on the topic of consciousness and universal awareness. I described my practice to him and he said he's been doing the same thing for years!

He calls it "putting his brain into neutral" where he essentially focuses on the breath and observes thoughts objectively as they pass from a state of awareness. I was a bit mind-blown by this actually, because he has been essentially meditating for years without necessarily putting that label on the practice.

I was curious if any of you have had a similar experience with a friend or family member that you care to share.

Global Mass Meditation on 12/21 at 11:11 PM

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 04:57 PM PST

With everything going on around the world, I think it's best for us to all collect our energies and focus our intention on the highest possible outcome.

The great conjunction on December 21 of Saturn and Jupiter is a rare astrological event which reflects the shift occurring in humanity on an astrological and spiritual level.

This is a great time to reflect on how we contribute to the world, and how we can make a difference in our own lives to create a better Earth for everyone.

Contribute to the collective consciousness of the Earth on 12/21 at 11:11 am or 11:11 pm in whatever way best suits your practice.

    God Bless you and Namaste.

    Mirror Meditation phenomenon

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:14 PM PST

Late night thoughts about past experience that was pretty wild. Has anyone ever stared into your eyes in the mirror so long that you have an intense sensation overcome your body as you're looking back at something that seems to have a separate presence from yourself? (source of consciousness?) It felt not necessarily evil, but alarming whenever it had happened.

Do you ever feel like you forgot how positive emotions feel?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 02:48 PM PST

Anxiety feels like my chest is heavy, when I feel embarrassed I feel stiff.

I feel these became usual, I feel like I forgot what overwhelming joy, happiness, love and even butterflies in stomach feels like. I dont know it's just since I'm more aware I realized how long it has been since I was soo soo happy, I'm not depressed I had fun few days ago and laughed and had fun, but as there is extreme negative emotions in my life I just want to feel extreme joy, but i forgot that good feeling and all i want is to feel it so i can remember it

Lack of presence with other people

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 02:25 AM PST

Now that I'm trying to be more mindful and aware throughout the day, I've noticed that whenever I speak to somebody else I completely lose any sense of awareness.

It's as if I go fully onto autopilot. Even in a phone call I can begin with the intention of staying present, but as soon as the call begins that evaporates and I only realise once the call has ended and I feel physically back in the room again.

I know this isn't strictly a meditation question but I just wanted to reach out and ask if anybody had noticed anything similar?

self-deprivation memes, before and after delving into meditation

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:50 PM PST

    before-
these were the best, id always feel as if it were relatable. no amount of it was worrying in the slightest.

    after-

rather recently, they gross me out, when i see them i just think "not true and not funny, poison of the ego".

Drastic shift is drastic. Any similar experiences? An old habit becoming clear and losing its appeal?

How mediation practice helped you ?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 11:48 PM PST

Ironically, when I was young . I was almost functioning like a yogi monk . I woke up at 4:30 am or 5 . Pray then I will just "relax " And while relaxing I would imagine my body swing back and forth . Then I will watch kids documentary. I used to eat later etc . I was that kid whose mom jock about comparing them to a statue. Then I started to change with time like all of us . Probably after the age of 12 . I used to hold poses now I know that those poses are yoga poses . Anyway, Fast forward this year I started meditating and wow . I feel a life . My nervous system is incomparable to what it was before ( I have anxiety disorder and other mental health issues) that actually started to manifest healing in my body . I had problems with my period and my heart was hurting at times but after I started meditating all of the suffering starting to lessen gradually. I'm so grateful:) . When I practice mindfulness I feel home . How about you ? How mindfulness changed your life ?

    walking(excercise)meditation guides

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 03:06 AM PST

I need some guide about using active activity As meditation. I disagree with the notion of bodily stillness and think the best way to enter a ASC is to move the body while training the mind.

however i dont know how to accomplish this in reality,i just know walking meditation Is a thing and monks do it in some monasteries.

Would you say creating feelings of love = self-love?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 05:05 PM PST

I can create feelings of love within myself through visualizing. It's the same feelings I feel when in a loving relationship.

Would this be equal to self-love?

    Have difficulty focusing on breath..

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:51 PM PST

So I've been meditating for a couple of weeks now. While I do find myself able to go for longer periods of time, I find it very difficult to stay attentive to my breath. This is a problem that I face when watching my breath only, but when I focus on attention on sounds I do not face such resistance. When focusing on my breath I always feel that something is wrong, that I am controlling my breath and not watching it, or just plain difficulty in following my breath. I also sometimes feel my heartbeat which disrupts my focus. Has anybody had a problem similar to this, and how did you overcome it?

New Guided Meditation for Severe Anxiety/Stress... hope it helps!

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:34 PM PST

If you can make something of this let me know

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:00 PM PST

I was meditating last night and had the most questionable experience. After about 10 mins of reflecting what has been bothering me my brain turned completely off(or so it felt like) then that's when it happened l. A pulsating light from my forehead felt as though it was growing in luminescence, I got really scared and lost all connection with the experience when I opened my eyes.

How To Start Self Healing: Part-1

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:20 AM PST

    Choosing a Place:

The best place to practice spiritual training in healing is a peaceful, pleasant place where there are few distractions, where the mind can be calm and the body comfortable, and where we can feel alert, spacious and happy.

Sages of the past have praised a variety of places, depending on the character of the practitioner, the practice, and the season. Among the favored solitary locations are those that have a clear, far-reaching view, like the top of a sky-kissing mountain or the lap of a prosperous field. Some practitioners have found solace in the forest, among the trees and wild animals and birds singing their ageless song of joy and playing free from fear.

What to listen to (guided meditation)?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:27 PM PST

Let me open by saying I am 100% serious.

I tried a guided meditation with my kids called secret treehouse, and it was okay. I'm looking for more adult things for me. No, not THAT adult.

I am a huge history buff. I'm looking for guided meditations with a sort of historical flavor, like commanding a vast medieval army or walking through the streets of London in 1650. I just don't know what to search for. Any help is appreciated.

Can't meditate any more after physciatric medication

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:57 PM PST

I took antiphyscotics medication Zyprexa which I stopped 6 weeks ago from today and ever since I started taking it I have not been able to do any meditation like before including higher self meditations and others. I still can't meditate even after stopping the medication, does anyone know how much longer I'll have to wait before it works again?
