| Posted: 10 Dec 2020 12:03 PM PST until this night i had never even seen this pose much less attempted it https://i.imgur.com/pY7ZU6b.jpg 2 years ago i signed up for an intro to yoga class after a skydiving accident rendered me barely able to walk. at the time i was pushing 300 lbs and had multiple lower back issues (46m for the record). now i am hooked and try to go at least 3 days a week. i feel as good as i did in my 20s and 30s and am down to 210ish lbs (6' tall). some of the posts here have actually encouraged me to sign up for teacher training which starts next month so thank you for that!!! i dont post on reddit often but one of my top posts is encouraging another potential yogi in a similar situation. i hope anyone in a similar position sees this and is encouraged by it and please dont hesitate to reach out directly with any questions. | How often do you do yoga and for how long? Posted: 10 Dec 2020 08:13 AM PST I just started getting into it and I'm aiming for 3/4 days a week for at least 30 minutes each time. So far so good. I set this as a goal because I know it's very attainable for me. I usually end up going over but I love it! [link] [comments] |
| Are the 5 Below mats any good? Posted: 10 Dec 2020 04:10 PM PST My stepsister asked for a basic yoga mat for Christmas. I already got her a pretty expensive perfume set (which she wanted) and wasn't really planning on anything else, but I figured if this one is decent then I'd get her one; if not I think she'll survive. I'm 99% sure she's not a very advanced or serious practitioner. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Starting yoga after an ACL reconstruction? Posted: 10 Dec 2020 12:20 PM PST I had surgery on my ACL a little over a year ago, and I've tried to get back into yoga. When I played football I did it once a week and I would like to start taking it more seriously. Whenever I get on my knee it's still pretty sensitive and it's somewhat painful on the scarring. Is there any tips for dealing with this? [link] [comments] |
| What am I doing wrong with wrists? Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:53 AM PST I'm (27/f) a complete beginner to yoga and I have weak core/body strength. I always have issues with placing my wrists or balancing my weight. I've tried searching for resources online but find nothing that's really useful. But I did find a YouTube video about wrist/hand placement, and the instructor said you shouldn't put any stress on the wrists. I try to put all my stress/balance on the ball of my pointer finger knuckle, but I sometimes find it challenging. But I guess that's the point? I do simple stretches for my wrists/fingers before I start any routines. For example - if I'm in table top position, and try to place my hands correctly, it still feels uncomfortable. I try to place my hands right under my shoulders and turn my biceps outward, and balance my weight on the ball of my pointer finger. I feel like I just keep doing something wrong with my hands during yoga and it makes me feel discouraged. Am I just being unrealistic, do I need to keep practicing to get over this learning curve? Does it matter if I'm double jointed? Any resources or tips? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 10 Dec 2020 03:11 PM PST After three years yoga practice i have great experience and exciting discoveries to share. Whether it is shared free or monetise my knowledge? I can teach yoga as I am a certified yoga teacher. What is right? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 10 Dec 2020 08:41 AM PST I'd like to build a backbend bench as a gift. There's two slightly different styles I'm considering. First one has vertical plank at the short side (feet usually go here). The second has a more curvy design and it has slats that follow the curve. I've never used a backbend bench. I am wondering if there is a preference of one style over the other. The vertical slat seems to be more common, but that could be because it's easier to make. I like the look of the curvy one better, but I don't want to choose that one if it's an inferior design for doing the yoga poses. See pictures below Right side has vertical plank for feet [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 10 Dec 2020 03:49 AM PST Okay, so I had this experience yesterday and I'm looking for opinions so I don't overreact. My practice is at least intermediate level. I flirt with advanced. I'm a bit stuck having to take some basic or level 1 classes due to covid restrictions in my area (fewer classes, fewer number in class). I still go though for the hot room and connection to my community. I've always been of the opinion that you can modify poses/instruction either way making them more challenging or less. I've always gravitated to vinyasa flow and find myself doing extra or using down time for Chaturangas. I always take a place at the back of room due to this so I don't stick out as much. I've always felt like this was encouraged ... mainly because I can't count the number of times the lead will promote doing something easier if it's not right for you. I guess I just assume it works both ways?? Last night in a 'level 1' class (with a lead/teacher I've never had) I found I didn't connect to begin with. I felt talked to, not invited ... Half way through she led the class into bridge pose and like usual I went into wheel. She swiftly called me out and said "bridge, not wheel". Honestly, I felt triggered, humiliated and overcome with shame. The only reason why I didn't break silence with some choice words and walk out was out of respect for my fellow classmates and community. I left without saying anything, partly feeling embarrassed and worried my anger would get the better of me in a talk about it. Am I wrong here? Am I naive to assume I'm doing what's right for my practice and modding to suit my own needs? What's the norm with this? It's easy to say just don't go back to her but I'm now riddled with anxious feelings that another teacher will say something to me now or I'm doing something wrong. I don't feel comfortable now doing anything other than what's prescribed at any class even if I've had that teacher before. I'm stunned at how much this one experience has impacted my safe place feeling. Should I seek out the owner and at least clarify that she supports personal mods? I hate that I have this feeling now. | Yoga poses for Urinary Retention and Feeling of Incomplete Evacuation of Bowels. Posted: 09 Dec 2020 08:46 PM PST For many months, after going for a Bowel Movement, I always feel that the bowels are not emptied completely. But for some days, I am also feeling that my urinary bladder is also not emptying completely (urinary retention). The reason I am saying this is that I am not going to urinate as frequently as I used to, but I am drinking large amounts of water. Please suggest some yoga poses for both problems...
