[COMP] Not even sure what this pose is called and definitely don’t have it perfected yet, but I tried it out during a peloton yoga session today and was pleasantly surprised by the results

    [COMP] Sirsasana Variations

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 11:41 AM PST

I've done exclusively vinyasa for 10+ years. Tried the ashtanga primary series, and it DESTROYED me.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 07:14 PM PST

I'm on day two of rest and still have muscle soreness. I didn't even do the whole thing! The ashtanga primary series does NOT mess around, and I have a whole new respect for it. Really excited to continue to work on it. I didn't realize how very different ashtanga and vinyasa yoga is. I still love the creative flows of vinyasa and will continue both, but ashtanga is a new direction.

There's a lot of unlearning I had to do though - especially in upward facing dog where I tend to lean my head back, but my teacher kept (verbally) adjusting me to keep my chin parallel to the floor. Though in videos I've seen, in Laruga Glaser for example, she also tilts her head back in upward dog. Is this difference just teacher by teacher?

I’d given up that I’d ever be able to do it, but today I completely surprised myself and actually did the wheel!

Tired of seeing only [COMP] posts in this sub? Here is a solution

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 07:27 PM PST

It's not that I don't care of people amazing crow poses / headstands / backbends, it's just that this sub is filled with [COMP] posts which for me are not very informative or helpful in my practice.

I've left & joined this sub a few times but then I thought about using AdblockPlus "custom filters" to kinda hide the posts I don't want to see!

    Demo: https://imgur.com/a/g4t2toA

Here is the custom filter: reddit.com#?#h3:-abp-contains(COMP)

How to use a custom filter: https://help.getadblock.com/support/solutions/articles/6000161377-how-to-use-custom-filters

    Enjoy!

    Started doing yoga again

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 09:14 AM PST

So I started the Fightmaster 90 Day program yesterday, I was not prepared to face how inflexible I had become over the past few months.

Finishing the session was pretty hard for me, but at least I finished and I know that over time I can recover my flexibility.

Top 5 tips on how to make 108 sun salutations most pleasant experience

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 05:20 AM PST

Hi Everyone. With this post, I want to raise awareness of the 108 Sun Salute ritual and share my tips on how to have the most pleasant experience.

Sun salutation is one of the basic building blocks of yoga practice and 4 times a year there comes a special time for 108 Sun Salutation rituals:

    🌱 Spring equinox,

    🔥 Summer Solstice,

    🌾 Autumn Equinox,

    ⛄️ Winter Solstice.

So here are my 5 Tips on how to make the experience as easy and pleasant as possible:

    1. Know your Why? - to keep motivated throughout & know your expectations.
    2. Have a warmup & cooldown - to release the stress and tiredness.
    3. Leverage counting - release the doubts of losing the count.
    4. Listen to your body & respect it - be brave to slow down, stop, or take a break if necessary. Release expectations, accept your fitness level.
    5. Smile & enjoy the process - communicate the gratitude from your brain to your body.

If you follow these guides, then I believe that literally, anyone can do the ritual.

And finally, a reminder that the next Winter Solstice is already on December 21, 2020!

    Hope this helps!

Looking for a comic/drawing that was posted on r/yoga recently

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 05:04 PM PST

It was about mindfulness and illustrated a person feeling some bad emotion in a thought bubble , opposed the the same illustration with a couple mindful thoughts/thought bubbles around the original. I saw it recently but now can't find it. Help please ?

    Sit up during pigeon pose

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 10:42 AM PST

I've noticed that generally when teachers teach pigeon, they usually talk about gradually bending forward more and more. I have no problem at all (and don't even particularly feel much intensity) folding over all the way to the floor in pigeon, but on the other hand I can barely sit upright due to what feels like lower back tension. Am I doing something wrong with my legs? What does this say about me? Are there other poses or variations I should work on to improve this? Thanks!

Yoga for New Yogi with Scoliosis

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:05 PM PST

I started doing some morning yoga back in March with YWA. Eventually I subscribed to DownDog and did yoga daily up until August. Then school started so I got lazy and stopped working out.

Since everything is online now and I'm a final year student so school is extra stressful this year. I basically sit and work for the entire day and always end up with lower back pain. I noticed there's a difference in thickness between my left lower back and right lower back but I've never seen a physiotherapist so I'm not entirely sure about the scoliosis or how bad it is.

I have always tried to target my lower back when I use downdog but they give me a lot of camel pose. My lumbar is super stiff and it hurts when I try to arch my back for camel pose (or is that scoliosis?).

Any recommendations from fellow yogis with scoliosis? Especially if you use downdog, which setting do you use?

Liforme yoga mat for hot bootcamp & Pilates classes?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 12:20 PM PST

Anyone use their liforme mat for hot Pilates and bootcamp? I just got one and love the grip, just wondering if anyone else uses it regularly for those classes? Do you still use a towel? Do you find yourself slipping? Do you like it for this use?

I have an extra long Manduka pro, but it's so heavy that I don't like taking it to studio classes, so I bought the liforme mat, but am not sure what might work best?

New to Yoga and can not fold

    Posted: 13 Dec 2020 03:34 AM PST

Hi there I am just seeking some advice here. I'm new to Yoga and any time my instructor says fold forward, no matter if it's a standing forward fold or seated my hips just won't hinge forward to move my upper body to my thighs. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can improve this outside of class?
