[COMP] two things that have helped my forward fold is 1) start with knees bent and slowly straighten the legs and 2) practice to increase range of motion in anterior + posterior tilt.

    Wrist pain with straightened arms

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 07:10 PM PST

Can anyone help explain my wrist pain? Any pose that puts pressure on my wrists when my arms are straight is sending pangs up from my thumbs (though bent arm positions like crow pose are just fine). It began around 1 month after daily practice, before that I was practiced like 4 times a week for around a year. I've tried moving to my forearms on and off, then for a whole month...still no dice :( anyone know if I am doing something wrong that I can fix? My elbows are unable to fully extend if that matters at all!

    Gaining weight??

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 07:10 PM PST

I've recently gotten into practicing yoga. Before, I was healthy but not super active. I have previous experience, I've just gotten more serious about it lately. I definitely consider myself intermediate and recently I've been doing a lot of "strengthen and stretch" vinyasa flows. I've gained 7 pounds since Saturday. Lol is this normal..? I'm not sure if muscle mass builds that fast or if I'm retaining water for some reason but it's weird! So I'd figure I'd ask and see if this is a common occurrence lol. Literally every day I gain two more pounds 🤦‍♀️

Hey there! I am looking for a book that goes in-depth on the importance of keeping a straight spine at all times for health and spirituality. Any clues?

    Thanks!

Resources for a culturally appropriate yoga practice

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:58 AM PST

Hi yogies! Hope you are all having a wonderful Tuesday :) I have been practicing yoga for a few months at a local studio and have been loving the physical movement, community, and mentality of the practice. But the more I learn about yoga's Indian roots, the more I see how western culture has commodified and taken from it. I want to ensure that I am not appropriating Indian culture in my practice and habits. Does anyone have resources that they have found helpful around yoga culture and how white people can learn to practice yoga in a culturally appropriate way? Videos, articles, books, or advice are all welcome.

    Spiritual Aspects of Yoga

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:41 AM PST

True yoga is union with the Divine, it is being conscious that we are not the body and mind, we are the Divine Soul. True yoga is living united with God. There are four ways of being in yoga - Karma yoga or action, Bhakti yoga or devotion, Gyana yoga or education and wisdom, Dhyana yoga or silence or meditation. These four types of yoga are the methods of living united with God. The spiritual benefits are that we transcend the body and mind, we let go of the material world, as we enjoy the bliss and peace of the spiritual world.

Been doing yoga for many years now and still struggle with a lack of flexibility especially in my downward dog and forward fold. Its like my knees and ankles just won't stretch out to exact the poses properly :( makes me feel defeated after so long

Is my body feeling like jelly a good thing?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 01:12 AM PST

Sorry I don't really know how to phrase that question non-awkwardly but tonight I decided to get into yoga and stretching in general to improve my flexibility, and after a whole day of sitting I did stretches and poses for about 20 minutes. Now my entire body feels like it's made of jelly and I tried googling it but there doesn't seem to be a straight up answer of if this is a good thing (meaning I made progress with my muscles or whatever) or if it's a bad thing (over-stretching, possibly tearing???). I don't feel sore, just super loose and maybe a little weak.

Can I take it as a sign that I did my stretches enough for the night or did I push myself too hard?
