[COMP] Handstand. An exciting December to see I have progressed slowly but safely. Happy New Month.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 01:09 AM PST

I’ve been consistently practicing yoga since August, mostly thanks to down dog. My goal for November was to get on the mat everyday, which I very nearly achieved. All but 4 were 60 min sessions. I have type set to quick flow, which excludes traditional warm up/cool down, & level to intermediate two

Thoughts on practicing in front of a mirror?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 07:20 PM PST

Sometimes I feel like it can be helpful in terms of alignment (and it's also just fun to see what you look like in certain poses :P) but usually it's just way too distracting. I also imagine it's better to focus more on if it feels properly aligned as opposed to how it looks. curious if anyone has any strong preferences either way!

    Starting yoga without any flexibility...

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:17 PM PST

Hey, So I'm trying to start doing yoga regularly for a really long time now. And I realised that my problem is, I'm really not flexible. I'm the kind of person that wants to be good at something immediately and I feel bad for being not good at yoga. I mean I'm like anti flexible and it's really not fun for me to not even be able to do the easy looking stuff. Does anyone know something that helps me getting flexible faster? Or am I weird or something. It just always looks so easy for everyone else. Thanks!

Shoulder Flexibility - Headstand vs Pincha

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:43 PM PST

Hi everyone! I've been working on building shoulder and core strength for pincha and handstand for a while and decided to try headstand today. Surprisingly, I was able to get my 3 legged headstand/dolphin pose much shorter, felt stronger and much more balanced, and might have actually been able to lift up into an egg position if I wasn't afraid of breaking my neck. I then tried in more of a pincha position and couldn't walk my legs in as close. I have poor shoulder mobility - cow face arms is impossible (top arm is the main problem) and I can't get my biceps by my ears in chair pose, but I can get my chest to the ground in puppy pose. I'm assuming my lack of shoulder flexibility is the problem. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Edit to add: this is what I'm referring to for headstand dolphin pose - https://www.google.com/search?q=headstand%20dolphin&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:CfU8fu5Oiw0wYVSV4vh7T3Tg&client=ms-android-samsung-ss&prmd=isvn&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CBMQuIIBahcKEwigy-K-663tAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQEw&biw=360&bih=612#imgrc=oawut79whbq00M

DBA for freelance yoga teaching -- worth it?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:29 PM PST

Hi all -- I've been toying with the idea of doing a DBA in my name. Initially, it was to join a movement-based co-op so that I could teach my own classes (instead of trying to get hired in a studio), and while that's still on the table, I've been dragging my feet out of uncertainty.

In my county, a DBA is like $34, and the cheapest insurance I could find was $195/yr.

So, is it worth getting a DBA, or is it more trouble than it's worth? It seems cheap enough that it would be silly NOT to, but don't really have anyone to ask advice/opinions...

    Yoga & its importance

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 03:34 AM PST

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word Yuj- Yuj means union. The true meaning of yoga is to have a union with the Divine. How do you do that? You do that by disconnecting from the world and connecting to the force that is supreme. You live your life as an instrument of the Divine, not just with devotion, but also surrendering every action. You spend your time in meditation, and educate yourself about who we truly are and why we are here. A true Yogi lives with the realization that we are nothing but a manifestation of the Divine. When we live in yoga on a day to day basis, we live without any misery and suffering, we live with the consciousness of the Truth, which gives us Ananda, eternal bliss.

    managing hypo/hyper mobility

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 07:56 AM PST

i'm a newbie (started doing yoga barely 3 weeks ago). i have no idea how to balance my hyper/hypo mobile joints. by that i don't mean flexible/not flexible. my upper body is hyper mobile - i literally check everything on the test (did that with my GP), my elbow hyperextension is 30 degrees, my wrists are flappy as hell, my shoulders randomly twist out the way they're definitely not supposed to. but my legs are extremely inflexible, i never could reach the floor in forward bend. i can't even reach my ankles. it's hard for me to balance those out, and my social anxiety is too severe to ever go to a yoga class in person. i can't do a lot of poses - even beginner/simplified. has smb else had to deal with that?

    Goals for yoga?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 07:01 AM PST

    Hello:

I have been practicing yoga on and off for 15 years, but I have started to take it now serious and I think that my practice will improve if I add some goals. I'm not really sure where to start. What are some of your goals?

Is Yoga Trade worth it? Will they be having a Boxing Day sale too?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 09:07 AM PST

    Hello!
I'm currently in my YTT, and I'm wondering if Yoga Trade is worth it? It seems like a good platform, so I'm intrigued to purchase it.

Since I'm still doing my YTT, does anyone think they'll have another sale around Boxing Day? If so I might wait till then when I'm near completion.

    Thanks!

Experiences returning to yoga after abdominal surgery?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:56 AM PST

Hi everyone, hope you are staying safe and well! Obligatory disclaimer: I am not looking for medical advice and do not intend to take any of the responses as such, I'm only interested in hearing experiences to get a rough idea of what to anticipate or advise for gently easing back into practice.

I was wondering if anyone had abdominal surgery (minor or major) and returned to yoga - when did you feel comfortable with core work again, including vinyasas? What about inversions, or other more challenging core-centric asanas such as crow pose or firefly? How did you ease back into your practice?

Authentic Ayurveda / Yoga teacher training course in India for early 2021?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:55 AM PST

I've been doing a lot of research, looking for a Yoga training course in India. The main things that I would love to have included with traditional Yoga is: meditation, chanting, Ayurveda classes, healthy / good-tasting food, teachers that focus on all the students equally and a place where the concept of religion isn't overbearing but rather focused on Spirituality. A lot of people have mentioned that after arriving to certain ashrams, they've been very disappointed with the outcome due to multiple factors such as, teachers with negative intentions, quality of the facilities not being up to standard, cleanliness issues, food being very thoughtless etc.

I've found SO many ashrams and certifications and courses that at this point I'm not sure what seems the best.

If you've done a Yoga teacher training in India and had a great experience, please do share some details so I can continue with my research.

    Post partum Yoga

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 02:38 AM PST

Hi, so I'm a mother to a 4 month old baby. I've been trying to workout postpartum but I'm kind of stiff and sore on some days. I had a vaginal delivery and do not have any other ailments. I used to be quite active before and during my pregnancy.

But getting back to working out has been slow and inconsistent. I would like to start yoga. I don't intend to do handstands in ten days but would love to take it slow. What are the stretches i can start off with??

If there are youtube links or apps that you would recommend it would be highly appreciated.

Yoga poses that fall under the same category Malasana does?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 08:21 PM PST

So... I have been having a few boring zoom meetings lately, and the thought that I could just be doing poses simulataneously as the meeting commences, I perch myself on a big enough wooden platform.
I can hold the Malasana pose for quite a long time, but I was wiling to explore other poses, which are static and can be done at a place.

Also, i don't want mundane poses like crossing legs and stuff, you get me right?
