- [COMP] This is by far the best handstand I've done to date, and I caught it on video!! I know I still have strides to make in terms of form (creating straight line from shoulders/hips/ankles, working to draw ribs and pelvis together) but for now I am very proud of this.

Manduka begin mat and other solid beginner mats Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:23 PM PST I'm looking to invest in a good beginner mat to replace my mums basic pvc mat. My knees have started to hurt a bit. Anyways I'm looking into the manduka begin mat since I can get it for 70$ Canadian. I'm struggling to find a good mat that competes with this mat. Who else? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Dec 2020 02:42 PM PST I know this has been touched upon in the past, but do any of you practice yoga without supplementing with non-yoga cardio workouts? I'm a huge fan of yoga and pilates, but I've always had a distaste for running and other forms of vigorous, aerobic exercise. I've read mixed opinions on whether power flows and Ashtanga are sufficient for meeting the 150 hours of moderate, physical activity a week recommendation. [link] [comments]
Need a great beginners book for yoga! Posted: 14 Dec 2020 05:52 AM PST Going to the book store later to grab some stuff. If anyone could recommend a good book relating to yoga teachings that would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:50 AM PST For those who do Peloton Yoga-which instructors do you normally practice with? Who do you usually cycle with? What does your schedule look like? I prefer Chelsea Jackson Roberts or Denis for yoga and really enjoy the Power Zone rides for cycling but also enjoy Ben, Alex, Leanne, Cody and Sam. I aim for 1 hour of exercise time a day and split my time between cycling and yoga with one long ride and one long yoga practice a week. The rest of the week I just kind of wing it based on how I'm feeling. Today, I did a 30 minute Cody pop ride and a 30 minutes Chelsea Power yoga. Anyways, I'm just curious into others' routines. Please share if you'd like :). [link] [comments]
Looking for support during my injury! Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:33 AM PST Hi everyone, I have never posted here, but have been a religious practitioner for 3 years, I reckon I'm at a fairly advanced level. I practice everyday. Recently I had some bad news in the family, and spent a week in bed, quite depressed. The first time taking a break from asana in months upon months. Well, on Saturday after sitting all day, I suddenly took a big stretch of my neck and right scapula, and suddenly felt such a sharp pain, even a breath was unbearable. I have a muscle contracture, and have never injured myself like this since I was 17 (i have been a gymnast, aerialist and then moved onto yoga, so have been active and very flexible forever). I'm in constant pain and don't know what to do. I just feel so sad I can't take a big back bend (after warming up of course I know, I regret letting my body get so cold and then stupidly stretching !). And I'm worried I may never get back the mobility in my neck and shoulder. Has anyone ever had an experience like this? I'd just appreciate if anyone can remind me of the ways I can practice yoga without all these movements (I have studied much of the 8 limbs, i just have lost motivation and morale, and my mind is going to the worst place:() thank u so much! I'm 23 and a girl by the way. Lots of love and blessings to you all, appreciate your body 💖 and warm up always !!!! Hehe [link] [comments]

I broke my wrists 4 years ago and have trouble doing moves on my hands now. Any advice? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:38 AM PST Just as the title says, I broke both of my wrists (in the absolutely most stupid, stupid, S T U P I D way) a while back. The fractures were pretty small, but they had me in casts for a few weeks and in the cold, sometimes my wrists will get a little sore still. My issue is that whenever I do poses like a plank or downward dog, it really gets sore fast and my wrists want to give out after just a couple seconds, so it really throws off my whole vibe. I'm looking for any exercises or stretches y'all may have encountered yo build up that strength again. I've looked up similar exercises, but they're all either aimed for freshly-removed-from-the-cast wrists and are too basic to do any good, or they're for unbroken wrists with regular strength, so I can't do them without hurting or re-injuring myself. Ty, friends! I'm hoping this can help make yoga more of a daily practice for me. Plus, downward dog feels sooooo good, my lower back LOVES it and I hate ending early because of my wrists. 😅 [link] [comments]
Does the Manduka Pro 6mm ever "break-in" and get cushier? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 07:45 AM PST The mat feels very hard to me, which I'm sure some people like but I was hoping for something cushier. I experience knee pain in kneeling crescent and I still get it with the Manduka Pro. I realize I probably just need to use a separate knee pad, but the Manduka didn't seem to offer any additional pain relief for that at all compared to my old thinner mat. I also experience slight discomfort in the palms of my hand in certain poses (side plank, poses done from tabletop, plank, downward dog, etc) and I was hoping a thicker mat would ease this, but it has not. It's a minimal discomfort, but I'm afraid I might be developing arthritis, so I wanted to get a cushier mat to prevent it from progressing due to my practice. I'm surprised at the firmness of the mat because it's generally recommended for people with bad joints, though I realize everyone needs something different. I'm just wondering if the Pro breaks in eventually. The Prolite felt cushier, but is slightly too thin. [link] [comments]

Online yoga subscriptions like Alomoves but for 20 min sessions? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 05:32 AM PST Since COVID started I got a Alomoves subscription and have been doing many of their 20-30 min yoga classes cause I really dread long sessions. I think I've gone through most of their short yoga classes and I'm running out of new content.. Are there any other good online yoga subscriptions that focus on short 20min sessions with moderate intensity? My goal is really to keep them short but work towards doing them daily. Which ones should I check out? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Dec 2020 11:17 PM PST So I recently got a new job and told them one of my hobbies is yoga and they asked if I'd ever be willing to teach a class. I agreed, and signed up for an online yoga teacher course just so I'm not teaching only off my experience, but feel safe to teach. I digress, my question is, if I do teach at my job post covid, do I expect people to bring their own mats or should I buy some extras to bring along? It's basically a corporate job, but my understanding is there's a gym and a lot of open space (everything so far has been over zoom so I haven't seen the space). Also, if yes, what's the most sensible way to transport multiple mats? And how to clean multiple mats in a timely matter? [link] [comments]
Getting back into yoga post-ACL/PCL reconstruction Posted: 13 Dec 2020 10:49 PM PST Hey folks, I got knee surgery in March to reconstruct my ACL and PCL. Pre-accident, I did power yoga almost every day, and it was so necessary for my mental/physical health. Obviously, since the accident in March/surgery in June, I haven't been practicing--both b/c of COVID and b/c I wasn't allowed to as I've been building back flexibility/strength in my leg. Now, I'm getting to a point where I may be able to start practicing yoga again, though going to in-person classes makes me nervous b/c of COVID. I've always had trouble practicing at home (mostly motivation related), and now I also have an additional worry that I might hurt myself without someone helping me with modify for my leg. Also, I'm still in a knee brace (hopefully getting out this week after 6 months, but even so, I'll likely have to wear an athletic brake still for exercise) and my injured leg's mobility isn't where it used to be/may never recover (which kind of throws off my alignment and the "evenness" in my body, if that makes sense). Does anyone have tips for getting back into yoga after a major knee surgery, or resources that would help me modify at home? Or can anyone share their journey/experiences w/ returning to practice post ACL/PCL surgery? [link] [comments]
