Doing yoga when in a frozen fear response

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:53 PM PST

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. I haven't done yoga really since a traumatic (emotional and physical) event two years ago. I feel frozen and closed in, and something about expanding my body feels challenging. I have made a lot of progress treating the ptsd in therapy but I know I need to get back into yoga.

If you've experienced this, how did you progress?

    Thank you

I am new to yoga, but not fitness. I have workout clothes but it doesn't transfer well. What do you wear and where can I get it?

YWA: Breathe Preparation: what tips videos helped you enhance your home practice?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:48 AM PST

Before I did True last month, I did Adriene's Yoga for Healthy Posture Yoga Tips video. It helped me get more from the seated elements of her practice. Which yoga tips videos would you recommend for basics?

    Best home hot yoga substitute?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:44 AM PST

I REALLLLLLY miss the hot room. I think feeling in a different physical environment (the heat) really helps my mental focus and I get much more enjoyment out of the practice and am motivated to do it for longer. Is there any decent way to safely replicate (or get close to) this at home?

Spiritual aspect of yoga in the western world

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 07:05 AM PST

Hi everyone! I am relatively new to yoga (started in July using the Downdog app) and I have some questions about the spiritual side of this practice.

I have noticed that the yoga community online tends to promote a type of spirituality that is really self-centred. For instance, I was scrolling though the stories on the Yoga with Adriane Instagram account and noticed one that said something along the lines of "all the things in the universe exist for me" or something.

So I'm wondering if this is an accurate representation of the traditional yoga doctrine, or if it is more of a western interpretation. Maybe I'm just wildly wrong, but I would expect a practice as old as yoga to be about connection with something greater than us rather than being egotistically centred on the self.

I remember seeing a post on this subreddit that said something about this but I can't find the post anymore and I don't quite remember what it said so I thought I would ask.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I hope you guys can tell me a bit more about this. And feel free to suggest any videos/articles/books on the subject, I'm really curious!

I got in to yoga. ever since i got covid the 26th of december my muscles feel short, i can't really bend over and any stretching is painful. breathing is also a huge challenge as i'm out of breath after ten steps. has anyone here done yoga while having covid? i want to get back in to it for the sake of my mental health but it's so painful. anything easy i could do? thank you!

    The true meaning of yoga

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:40 PM PST

The true meaning of yoga in the spiritual dimension comes from the word Yuj which means Union. It is the union of the Spirit or the Soul with the Divine. Unfortunately it has been manipulated and misrepresented as union of body, mind and Spirit and therefore it confuses all of humanity. The spiritual definition of yoga is the ability for one to live as a yogi, one who is in constant connection with God. Imagine a good SIM card that is constantly connected with its satellite without being interrupted - such is the need or the goal of yoga. Unfortunately due to our body, our mind and ego, we are constantly disconnected from the Divine and our yoga is disrupted, but this is the true meaning of yoga.
