Ashtanga yoga: Lower body strength for newbie Ashtangi |
| Lower body strength for newbie Ashtangi Posted: 21 Jan 2021 04:04 AM PST Hi everyone! I started doing ashtanga in late October and have been really loving it! I was doing mostly vinyasa style online classes from March (due to lockdown) until then; and I am enjoying the change. Before covid I used to be a heavy weightlifer (6x times a week for around 6/7 years) and therefore specially my lower body (hamstrings, hips, etc) are quite tight. When lifting one thing that I always struggled with was engaging the glutes, so I would give a lot of emphasis on glute exercises to optimise this as it was also my weakest area. With ashtanga I feel like my upper body is really keeping its strength but my lower body is loosing it all as well as feeling like I am over stretching my hamstrings (and even injuring them) which could also be due to loosing muscle in the glutes (even my mum is asking where these are ha). I was wondering if anyone did any resistance training maybe with some bands outside their practice like some squats, hip thrusts, etc just to keep everything more in balance and whether this will help or rather bring my back in my practice by tightening all muscles up even more. Thank you everyone and hope you have a lovely day! [link] [comments] |
