Ashtanga yoga: Question on prana and apana concept

Question on prana and apana concept

    Hi everyone!

I am new to Ashtanga and have been practicing for only three months.

Last two weeks I have been doing the donation based initiation to Ashtanga online workshop Ty Landrum is offering (fantastic I must say) and when he was explaining Sun Salutation A he was talking how when he first inhales he tries to keep the balance of the prana and raising his arms with apana so that he doesn´t over reach; so basically keeping that balance of the opposite.

This got me thinking whether this is the case to every moment. As for example when forward folding; in order not to just collapse into it keeping a bit of the prana energy pulling you a bit up to keep a bit of a straight back and not completely collapse forward.

As well as maybe in each pose as you inhale you keep mindful of keeping a bit of the apana energy and when you exhale you keep a bit of that prana energy to keep the rhythm.

Or for example when coming back up rather than over extending the back, keeping that apana in mind to always keep in balance.

So basically my question is basically is whether this concept is correct or whether I have just been making this up in my mind and it is nonsense haha.

Hope you have a lovely day!!
