Posted: 28 Jan 2021 02:23 PM PST Hello guys! For the first time I did my practice using a yoga mat and, wow, how good it was! For a long time I practiced on my bed, of course, I couldn't do all the positions correctly. First thing I will do as soon as I wake up is my practice! Hugs from Brazil! [link] [comments]
What about very tall people with very long torsos? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 11:38 AM PST It's a funny problem, but I've been doing yoga for a while (beginner level) and I've noticed I am having an issue with doing a lot of the poses correctly due to my posture. Not only I am tall, but I have a very very long torso, to the point where when I sit down next to someone way taller than me, I am taller than them sitting. In a lot of poses my arms and legs are too short to keep up with my long spine. Has anyone had this problem, and are there some helpful tips? Or are the poses still ok to do even when I cannot do the transitions smoothly? [link] [comments]
[Help] Yoga for my 62 year old mum Posted: 28 Jan 2021 08:54 AM PST Hey gang, I'm on the hunt for a free, follow-along, YouTube (or other) yoga course/playlist for my 62 year old mum. We tried Yoga with Adrienne's 30 day challenge and it was...too challenging for my mum. So it needs to be an easy, beginner level flow. Preferably not too long (it's hard enough motivating my mum to do a 10 minute walk, let alone a 30+ minute yoga practice!). Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

What is "healthy flexibility"? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 02:31 AM PST Even after 5 years of consistent yoga practice I still have significant flexibility issues. About 5 months ago I started focused flexibility training from online yoga instructors who will often use the phrases "healthy flexibility" or "normal flexibility", but they don't ever define that. I assume I'm still somewhere short of normal, and that normal is something everyone can achieve, but I also don't think it's the extreme version displayed by these instructors. Is there a reliable way to identify normal flexibility? Thanks for your input. [link] [comments]
Interesting (Nefarious?) Yoga Review Posted: 28 Jan 2021 10:38 AM PST I attended a class at Blue Ridge Yoga recently and, while anxious about the COVID situation, felt safe and throughly enjoyed the class. When I went to Google to post a review I saw that most were 5 star reviews. I was curious if they had any negative reviews. There was one one-star review, and it was particularly odd. Terrible remarks for Blue Ridge Yoga while name dropping 2 other studios. I did a little internet sleuthing and couldn't find anything on a Brandy Haslam from Knoxville. I went a little deeper to see if there was someone that taught at both of the name dropped studios and there was 1 match. I can't confirm that the fake review came from this person but there is certainly some smoke. Seems really nefarious if it was in fact a fake review to drive business away from Blue Ridge Yoga. Does this type of thing happen in the Yoga world often? I probably won't give Blue Ridge Yoga my findings because I can't confirm for sure that's what this review was but it really rubs me the wrong way. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2021 08:02 AM PST I think this is a common question. Lots of different options it seems. I have never done yoga so I am not sure what 'options' I am looking for as far as stickiness, cushion ..that sort of thing. Looking for some suggestions. I would prefer something a bit more eco friendly. I have seen cork mats like this one but there are others that show adding powder to help with stickiness?? like this one. So what am I looking for. I don't mind spending a 100 bucks if that is one that will last but obviously looking to keep the price low. I am male, bit overweight and plan to do yoga at home cuz nobody needs to see that. I am currently on carpet if that makes a difference. I have no idea what kind of yoga will be doing if that matters for mat type. I do like that cork one that has marks. Might help in position placement. Thoughts?? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jan 2021 11:22 AM PST I'm in the market for a new home mat. I currently have a Gaiam mat that is 6mm and I love the cushion on it but hate that it flakes. I've ordered a Manduka Pro (6mm), and a Jade (4.7mm), and while they are incredible quality, they both feel so HARD. Like I might as well be putting my knee on my hardwood floor. Is this typical?? The Manduka Pro is the same thickness as my Gaiam, so I was hoping the cushion would feel similar. I do realize that Manduka's need to be broken in, but my understanding was that helps with grip/slipping, not as much cushion. Is there a mat that has cushion similar feel to Gaiam but better quality material so it doesn't flake? I don't do hot yoga, so it doesn't need to be geared specifically towards sweat. Any help would be much appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2021 09:05 AM PST Hi all, I've been doing yoga on and off since last March and I've been so grateful to find it! However I've noticed (since about the summer?) that when I transition from my head being high to low or vice versa my head POUNDS for a solid 30 seconds. I don't mean when I go from down dog to plank, but if I go from down dog to simply seated on my mat. Or from laying down to sitting up. Is this really just the blood rushing to/from my head? Does anyone else experience this? I'm not asking for medical advice, just curious if this is something common. Thanks, all! [link] [comments]

I have very short arms and bust compared to my leg length, how can I modify poses to make them work? Posted: 28 Jan 2021 03:57 AM PST I really struggle with downwards dog partly because of my tight hamstrings but also because my legs are just really long and unless I'm really low I don't have enough length in my upper body. This would mean that my foot needs to have an extreme bend at the ankle. I thought about using blocks underneath my hands but feel like it might be unsafe. I have similar struggles for other exercises too and often wonder whether my form will cause injury or not. [link] [comments]
I did Yoga for one year (and nothing happened). Posted: 28 Jan 2021 01:53 AM PST So, I started doing Yoga one year ago, about when the pandemic started and I couldn't do anymore jiu-jitsu. I average 5 times a week, sometimes every day. I did the first few months guided byYoutube videos by either Adrienne or by Yoga for Bjj among others. After some time I knew which moves I liked and I could do them on my own. After one year I still can't say I feel any difference. At all. I don't feel more flexible. I'm not stronger. I don't feel in harmony with mother nature. I don't feel calmer. I'm not pain free. Here's the thing: I think I have a very stubborn body. Gaining weight takes a long time for me but once the weight is there it also takes a loooong time to lose it. I'm 5 kilos over my recommended BMI so it's no big deal. I was lifting weights for years and I went in hard. Sure, I got more muscular but the change was subtle. A couple of kilos of extra muscle at the most. When I stopped lifting, the muscles very slowly disappeared obviously. Of course, I can't really say nothing happened during one year of Yoga. First of all, I can't say if anything happened on my inside. I can't say how I would've felt right now if I hadn't done Yoga. Also, training jiu-jitsu before the pandemic had already made me strong and flexible so perhaps thats why I can't feel any positive changes in my body. Everywhere I hear people talking about how 1 month of Yoga changed their lives and bla bla bla and here I am after one year and I'm like "good for you". Anyone like me out there? [link] [comments]
