    measuring progress

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:26 PM PST

    More of a philosophical / value-based question:

When measuring progress of stretches by taking photos, do you take the progress picture after warming up and going to current max, or just take it at your *safe* limit while "cold"?

On the one hand I can see warming up taking you much further and thus showing more progress, but on the other, isn't an on-the-spot stretch a more true measure of your current flexibility?

As an example: upon doing some hamstring stretches I can start touching my chest to my thighs in the standing pike, but I can't yet touch chest to thighs without warming up. Should I take the progress photo before warming up, or after?

    What do you all think??

    Almost There!

This was about 3 months ago. Shortly after this, I worked through a blockage in my right hip that had been impeding my progress for months.

    Beginner - advanced routine?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:11 PM PST

I'm doing callisthenics and I'm looking for a routine preferably a short that I can do all way from beginner to advanced and beyond, would suggest a full body routine for stretching or different body part each day. I can touch past my shins in the past I've been able to touch my toes but never been to put palms on the maybe for 1 or 2 secs but not comfortable. Another or trading for middle splits can you just actively train and you'll achieve it in time or. You need to do other exercises?

Coming back from a hip injury

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:27 AM PST

I was a competitive dancer and was very flexible. When I was 17 however, I damaged a tendon in my hip in a car accident and was out for a year. As it was hip that was damaged and I don't have very good natural flexibility I have lost all my flexibility. I have recently started dancing again now that I've been told I can return and I want more than anything to get at least flexible enough to do the splits again. I know I'm never going to be as flexible again and it upsets me that I'll never be able to peruse a professional career in dance due to this. But any tips people have that could help me that have the smallest chance of hurting my hip.

    Cellulite decrease?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:35 PM PST

Hi, what is your experience with decreasing the apperance of cellulite with stretching? My main goal is to become super flexible and to feel healthy in my own body but I have huuge cellulite on my butt and thighs (I'm a perfect example of skinny-fat) and I was wondering if stretching on it's own could improve the situation. Please share your experiences and thoughts, did stretching help you with getting rid of cellulite? How bad it was before? Was it the only physical activity in your routine? Thanks!

If you're confined to sitting in a bed most of your day, what are the easiest stretches that require the least movement starting from a sitting position in bed? Imagine you are horribly fat and have low mobility

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:57 AM PST

Trying to figure out which stretches I can add with the least effort (least movement from a sitting position in a bed) so that over the long term I stretch more

So I imagine they will be stretches where I can simply lean over forward but how should I position my legs for the various stretches?

    What does this mean?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:40 AM PST

So im a bit new to flexibility. I've been doing a few exercises because I recently developed lower back pain from weightlifting. One exercise im doing is the bird dog. Where you get on all fours, and then extend opposite arm and leg at the same time.

I noticed that when I bring my left leg back to the floor after extending it, it doesnt come back in a straight line, it kinda swerves outwards. however, I can bring it back straight if I focus. This doesn't happen to my right leg. I was wondering what exactly this signifies about my flexibility. I'm thinking that this imbalance might have significance in regards to my lower back issues

Straining upper hamstrings when doing gentle front split stretches?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:57 AM PST

    Hi!

I've been training my splits for almost a year now. Surprisingly, I'm having less trouble with my middle splits than with my front splits because of one thing: my hamstrings.

When I go into front splits, I usually support my arms with blocks. I don't feel any pain, only the usual discomfort. I try to keep my core engaged and place some of the stretch in my hip flexors. However, I'll wake up the next day, and any hamstring stretch feels like the muscle is tearing - just a very deep soreness. I can't train through this and so I have to take a week or two (or three) to let the soreness go away. I haven't made a lot of progress on my front splits as a result.

Any tips or explanations for why this is happening?
