Just enjoying trying and being, and trying. Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:33 PM PST First post on this sub. Fairly new to reddit. Meditation, mindfulness and spirituality in general were all pretty daunting and intimidating topics for me before I began my mental health recovery journey a few years ago. I was introduced to mindfulness and meditation by 2 beautiful mental health practitioners that really showed me the benefits of just being, just being there, in the moment. I don't always practice, and when I do it's pretty inconsistent and unstructured. But what is wonderful about the power of meditation and mindfulness is the fact that its beautiful and powerful no matter how much effort you put in to it. It fills me with great hope, awe and curiosity when I imagine what could be if I keep practising and also by reading your amazing posts on here. One love, thank you. [link] [comments] |
It's amazing to me how much my ability to focus increases after meditating. Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:30 PM PST Often times I kick myself about how much better I could have done at school had I only meditated consistently, but unfortunately that chapter of my life has long since ended. Right now, for example, I haven't meditated, and there's no question in my mind that I would not be able to sustain focus on a novel, let alone comprehend what I'm reading in it particularly well. That changes after I meditate. The noise in my head reduces enough to where I can focus for a good couple of hours. I have to do it daily, but the difference in perception I experience is something else. [link] [comments] |
Live your life. The moment you fear you are nobody Posted: 02 Jan 2021 01:35 PM PST Starting this moment decide to live your life mindfully and not mindlessly. Discover yourself, who you really are and not what you are expected to be by the society. Connect with your inner self who is full of love, joy and excitement and does not have dull feelings of sadness, frustration, fear, irritation, regret, guilt, anger and any emotions that do not serve the inner/real you. Set your soul/heart free from your mind. Do what you want to do without fear of judgment, fear or unknown, fear of the future, fear of anything period. You will find joy in breaking the shakles of indecisiveness, do what your heart says every day, then every hour then every minute. That is what life truly is. It the sweetest gift that nature has bestowed on us. Let's make the best use of it. Live your life fully, break the shakles of your mind, take the reins of your life in your hands and live how your soul really wants to live it. Love you all beautiful souls and Bless you all. #love #happiness #mindfulness #joy #life [link] [comments] |
Interesting mini experience with Social Anxiety Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:11 PM PST So I'm 325 days into daily meditation. I did The Mind Illuminated for most of it, and recently started Stephen Proctors MIDL course on Insight Timer. I started because of Social anxiety running my life and holding me back from being my best version of myself. In spite of meditating for so long, I have still been struggling with social situations. I've been trying to apply whatever mindfulness and wisdom I've learned in those moments, but have just been resulting in aversion and resistance to overthinking and less flow. I was in a Discord call with my meditation group. I decided to stop trying and just let each persons voice and what they were saying slip into my object of attention. I realized that the overthinking stopped for a short moment, but a moment nonetheless. It helped me realize that a big part of simply being myself is the fear response of vulnerability and chasing whatever thoughts pop up. It gave me a glimmer of hope. Sure my social skills are much better than when I was 15, but this feeling of immersion in the moment socializing felt good [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:05 PM PST I started reading James Clear's Atomic Habits, and it really shed light on my habit of meditation. I've been meditating for more than 1 year, and I've seen some small changes as in I'm happier, more patient. But I'm still not that mindful and I still think a lot during meditation. James Clear says "habits often appear to make no difference until you clear a critical threshold and unlock a new level of performance. In order to make a meaningful difference, habits need to persist long enough to break through a plateau." He calls this plateau the Plateau of Latent Potential. He even has a graph that says that results from habits are not linear but exponential. I thought this was really interesting and saw my meditation practice as an example of this. Right now, I may not be as mindful as I want to be, but everything is building up and one day, I'll see the results of my years of practice. Just some food for thought. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:32 PM PST Meditation is like switching the monitor from the GoPro strapped to the monkey, to a view of the entire habitat. [link] [comments] |
Has meditation helped you with becoming more disciplined? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 11:39 PM PST I've been reading a lot of books on meditation/Eastern Spirituality these last few months. A detail that really caught my eye is how meditation can help you *detach* yourself from yourself and view yourself with total objectivity, like if you were watching another person. I was just wondering if anyone here has managed to achieve that state and achieve great discipline (ie. Getting rid of bad habits, forcing your "character" to do stuff he doesn't want to do, etc.) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 02:35 PM PST I think I've found my new favorite thing. After playing with my puppies, they get very tired and usually conk out for 45ish minutes. They curl up in my lap and it is truly one of the most joyful experiences. A week ago I wondered what it would be like to meditate during this time and WOW what a lovely experience. Their warmth and heaviness brought a nice rooted experience to my practice which is unusual but a very nice change. Highly recommended if you can get your pets to stay still during the practice! Second time I seriously meditate in my life, and yet again something unexpected happens Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:28 AM PST Hello everyone. Hope you are doing wonderfully well in your journey. Today I have had a session od Metta meditaton (loving-kndness meditation). Wjat happened is that I felt pretty much like the whole session was going to be useless while I was practicing it (though I could identify and gently shut my thoughts better than last time), and at the end I was feeling like I was just waiting for the session to end (maybe it just takes time to get used to meditate 20 minutes straight). The thing is as I open my eyes and I leave the session I acrually feel more relaxed and happy, like I should have felt during the session? Like the session in itself felt unsatisfying but after leaving it I was so relaxed and chill? Is it normal in your experience? Thank you in advance for your time and kind consideration. I hope you have a splendid day! [link] [comments] |
What’s wrong with me? Pls help Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:50 PM PST I don't know if it's ADD, depression, anxiety, or a combination of all 3 but my mental health has been bad for a little over a year (again). I got on an SSRI recently and although it's kinda helped with my anxiety, my depression almost seems to be worse (don't worry, I'm going to speak to my doctor about this). What really concerns me and bums me out is the fact that I can't accomplish anything. I over-think everything so much that I end up doing nothing. I wake up instantly feeling overwhelmed/overstimulated and usually go straight on my phone. Constantly searching things as I'm constantly thinking, never being able to finish reading certain articles and posts as I've started thinking about something else, constantly having so many tabs open. Is this normal? A lot of times I feel so overwhelmed I end up just sitting on the couch and watch Netflix. How do I become more productive? I like the idea of doing more and I used to do more! Used to always go out with friends/by myself to restaurants, concerts, on hikes/camping trips but it's been so hard lately. I stopped drinking about two years ago and noticed I'm so much more introverted sober. Or maybe I've realized I'm more depressed? Anyway, I always tell myself at night that tomorrow will be different; I even make a to-list in my notes app but it never gets started.. or at least finished. Am I that weak minded? Or lazy? Does anyone else feel this way or is there something seriously wrong with me? I'm so embarrassed that I've become this way. For those who are more self disciplined and have more of a structured schedule, how do you do it? What advice do you have for me? [link] [comments] |
Exploring good thoughts during the meditation yes or no? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:59 AM PST Should i give attention to nice thoughts like mountains, cold breeze, fresh air,snow.. when meditating? Or my mind should be 100% focus on breath and nothing else? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:09 PM PST I've recently been looking at starting meditation, I've heard many good things about it. Of course, I've also had some warnings from a instructor I briefly talked to. Mostly about staying in a good position and having a comfortable area so you don't lock up. The reason i want to start is i deal with a lot of mental health troubles, and 2020 had been stressful, making me spiral down into a depressive episode. The reason i turned to this idea in the first place is I saw someone online talk about how it helped reduce their anxiety, and help with their confidence. They talked about how a good place to start is breathing techniques, which, I find sometimes is the only thing that calms me down. I want to start, but i don't know where i should start. I'm not to good with google, and its hard to tell what is true or not with articles, so I figured this might be a good place to go. Even if you cant provide instruction on how to start, id always appreciate a book suggestion regarding this subject. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read/respond to this. Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:05 PM PST I find that I can fall into a quick meditative state anywhere or anytime pretty easily. For example, I'm sitting in my car, thinking about what I plan on doing when I get inside & it was a toss up between getting my newsletter done or to meditate first. I chose to do newsletter first then "gift" myself as a treat to self to meditate once I'm done with everything for the day. And as I was thinking of all of this, my eyes were closed, & my thoughts pretty much said, "eh fuck it, just meditate now quickly." And I proceeded to do so 😅😂❤️ (working on self discipline) But I only meditated for what I consider a micro moment. Like 3-5 min. And I find that I can do that randomly anytime of the day usually and anywhere (for the most part). Does anyone else experience anything like this? And what's your perspective on all of this? 🤔🌟 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:21 PM PST I've never been into this kind of thing but, I always do breathing exercises when having an anxiety attack and it always works. I was wondering if I could try meditating. (I've always been very reluctant to this kind of thing) Thank you for reading [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:04 PM PST Hey, I've been trying to practice being present recently and I've been wondering if I was doing it correctly. I get really relaxed whenever I do it with a guided meditation. But when I'm by myself, I wonder if every time a thought comes by, I'm supposed to look at it and then once it goes away, I bring my focus back to my breathing. This way is harder, because thoughts comes and go a lot. Or should I bring my attention back to the breathing every time I catch myself not focusing on it. When I'm doing a guided meditation, my mind is way more calm since I follow exactly what I'm being told to focus on (body parts for example), but I feel like meditating on my own might be more realistic to when I'm by myself outside of meditation and therefore, might me more helpful..? Thanks for the help in advance! [link] [comments] |
Can meditation solve my problem? If so, which kind? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:16 PM PST So I have a problem with interacting with people. My interaction is always heavily automatic and I feel like I don't have space to actually think on my feet and give a fresh response. Before I've even mentally registered what they've said, I've already auto-responded and it's too late to change my response. I always think of what I want to say after the interaction is over. I'll be like "Wow, when he said X I really wish I said Y" but I never think of saying Y until afterwards. Is there any way to solve this with meditation? If so, which kind? Would be great to hear from people who've dealt with similar problems. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Issues with Saliva while Meditating Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:34 PM PST I am currently doing Anapana meditation. I however have a lot of saliva that builds up in my mouth that requires me to swallow, however the technique says to not react to any sensations. Any tips on how to tackle this saliva issue if anyone else has experience with it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:00 PM PST Hurting. Pain. Sadness. We have all felt this before. We may be feeling it right now. We all have something that we can heal from. We all have something we can improve upon. Together, Separately. We all have something that makes us feel scare, that makes us feel fear and sometimes even allow the fear to overwhelm our mind and body. It is all ok. We are Sacred but we are Human. It all takes time. I have learned recently that there is so much strength with feeling your pain, feeling your depression, feeling your anxiety, feeling your hurt, feeling your sadness, feeling whatever emotion it may be, that is trying to make YOU think that you are not worthy, that you don't deserve, that you aren't strong enough........WELL LET ME TELL YOU; THAT IS ALL A LIE. Yes, our pain, sadness etc., is valid, but THIS is all a strength. Being in tune and one with our emotions, with how we feel, is the GREATEST STRENGTH; to HEAL, for HAPPINESS, for PEACE. Through all of these emotions, we are GROWING. If you realize it or not, it is all happening inside & I hear YOU,sometimes we expect growth to be something on the conscious level, where we would realize our growth, where we would realize the things we used to feel that we no longer do, or that now EMPOWER us. It takes time. I know. Its difficult but if WE start thinking in the way that this is apart of something GREATER, that this is ALL making OUR INDIVIDUAL STORY, we will begin to enjoy and be one with all these emotions, with these feelings and connecting with the PRESENT moment, which is all we truly have. RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. Today: BE kind on yourself. Give yourself a hug. I am rooting for you. I love you. Drey <3 [link] [comments] |

I always feel like I'm doing something wrong Posted: 02 Jan 2021 04:30 PM PST Whenever I meditate, I feel opposite from relaxed. I'm on edge, anxious and it feels impossible to breathe. When I finish meditating I feel like I just got done with a waterboarding torture session. Out of breathe and scared. This can't be normal, right? I'd like to learn how to meditate but if metaphorically waterboarding myself is what it will take just to be a beginner, then I'm not too sure. Could this have something to do with me being asthmatic? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:39 PM PST Anybody experienced Samadhi? How would you explain this feeling in a few words? I know that is impossible to communicate non-dual experience, but im very curious of your opinion. For me it's the following- "No distance between you anything that you experience" :) [link] [comments] |

Why do I find it so hard to meditate but I have so much discipline in other areas of life? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:33 AM PST I exercise for 2-3 hours per day, have a thriving STEM career, etc. and all of these things require a lot of self-discipline. It's no problem for me to do these things that conventionally require a lot of self-discipline. However, when it comes to meditating I just come up with excuse after excuse. I've had some streaks of doing 1 hour per day for a month or so. However, I just can't muster up the self-discipline/control to do it on a regular basis, despite the huge benefits. I need to do it because of my anxiety, so I'm looking for ways to overcome this. Possibly there is no real secret here, I just need to suffer through the initial habit formation period? I just find it fascinating that I could have such high self-discipline in almost every other area of life, but when it come to doing 10 minutes of meditation I manage to put it off and never do it. Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:29 PM PST My body expands slowly and gently in every inhale, like a softly blown bubble. I'm on the forest floor in a soft bed of moss, in a clearing Surrounded by Birch trees and cattails My body is soft and fragile and sinks gently into the sphagnum. I am an animal. My body expands. My body is doing what it's meant to do, it cares for me. My body is for me and no one else. It keeps me alive. Deer and rabbits walk nearby. My body expands and I feel the earth radiating up through my back making space in my chest I can hear my breath and I can hear the earth breathing. I am perfect exactly the way I am, as nature intended. I am home. Please add on to this as you wish. [link] [comments] |
