| So I replaced my morning coffee with yoga for the last two weeks, and I am loving it! Posted: 19 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST Quick back story, I am always a morning and lunch time coffee drinker since college years. Due to some skin allergies related stuff, my doctor tell me to try cut out coffee and see if it have some effects or not. So I started to move my night yoga session to the morning two weeks ago. I did a 25-55 minutes yoga session each morning (depends on what time I am able to crawl out of bed) and there are few things I noticed. 1) I am able to feel honestly fully awake after the yoga session and don't need coffee throughout the whole day 2) I am more excited to wake up and more willing to sleep according to my sleeping schedule (big time night owl here) 3) my skin do get better, but probably meanly because I cut out coffee 4) the fact that I am able to get half of my daily exercise (I now do cardio or muscle exercise at night) out of the way in the morning, make me feel less stressed about working out in general So far I am liking this exercise schedule, and so proud of myself that I am able to stop relay on coffee to feel energetic. | Posted: 19 Jan 2021 06:32 PM PST I left my narcissistic and violent abuser three days ago and tomorrow will be my fourth yoga class this week. Tonight I left yoga feeling powerful! He will not win! I am strong and I'm so thankful to have yoga to help me through this [link] [comments] |
had an hilarious realization in yoga class today Posted: 19 Jan 2021 12:03 PM PST well i thought it was funny. i'm a dude and i attend a studio with a mostly female membership and all the instructors are female. and we were doing puppy pose or rabbit pose. i forget. and the instructor said as she always does that "your chest reach the ground before your hands" or something like that. something that remains hopelessly out of my flexibility range. and i was frustrated in the pose and i thought 'wait a minute, she's talking about humans with breasts here! not me!". they can totally reach the ground. no wonder i can't. So i felt much better about myself. please tell me i'm right. [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Jan 2021 04:44 PM PST So not sure if anyone will know the answer to this question, but what's the point of do the splits over two benches parallel to each other? I hope this is relevant, even though I haven't heard of it from a yoga practice before. [link] [comments]

Yoga routines for extreme beginners to exercise? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 04:02 PM PST I want a yoga routine that is super easy and light stretching to get my body used to the movements. I've tried yoga with adriene and sadly my body still gets incredibly sore doing some of her videos, to the point the soreness is uncomfortable. Does anyone have recommendations for super easy routines to get into? [link] [comments]
Does anyone here lift weights/do strength training? How does it affect your yoga? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 08:53 AM PST I do yoga 6-7x a week and i do cardio as much as I can i already have hamstring tightness issues. I really want to to start strength training regularly and stop being such a cardio bunny. So i just took my first ever Barry's bootcamp class (at home) and I'm so sore and tight i can barely get into uttanasana. I want to strength train and get strong but how will this affect my yoga? How do you well rounded people strength train and do your yoga flows without being too tight? [link] [comments]
Adjustments I could make for Half Split? Very Inflexible Posted: 19 Jan 2021 08:08 PM PST I'm extremely inflexible espically in my hamstrings and I'm finding it difficult to figure out something I can do to adjust for a Half split. I'm not sure if I should just be giving up on trying and do something else if I'm struggling to figure out what I can do for it or I can still try and do a half split but in a way that works for where I am right now you know? Thanks for any advice or help! [link] [comments]
Good, detailed video on sun salutations / Surya Namaskar? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 03:40 PM PST I'm trying to find a fairly detailed video on surya namaskar A and B. I've been doing Ashtanga on and off for a while and am familiar with the movement, but frankly mine sucks. I'd like to find a slow, detailed description of the finer points, like a really good description of the alignment, subtleties, etc...Essentially I know the basics but would like to troubleshoot and really get it dialed. Any reccs? [link] [comments]

| Crow? Weird advice about how to start it that isn't working for me Posted: 19 Jan 2021 07:05 PM PST Hi, I keep hearing from tutorials on crow pose to place my knees into my armpits and then slowly lean until I'm in the air. This is great, except that (am a guy) the hairs from my knees reduce the skin-skin friction and give me rope burn as they slide down to around my elbows. Am I just not strong enough and I'm relying too much on my elbows? I can do the pose fine when my elbows are holding up my legs, and can even hold a handstand for a little while if I start on the wall. What should I do to get to where they say I should be? | Posted: 19 Jan 2021 02:22 PM PST Hi everyone, I have been practicing and studying yoga for some time and I have some questions. I searched for answers on the Internet and in some books, but I did not find them. If anyone could help me it would be great.

Yoga first timers: online or studio? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 02:21 PM PST Should I start my yoga practice online or should I go to a studio? There is a common misconception that everyone attending to a yoga class should be flexible and should be able to reach their toes with their hands. This makes it hard for yoga first timers to decide whether they are capable of completing a yoga session or not, so instead they choose not to. Yoga is absolutely for everyone and asanas (yoga postures) are just a tool for reaching your goal, but I surely admit it can be kind of intimidating if the person next to you is flying from crow to handstand. One of the main recommendations when you first attend to a yoga class is not to compare yourself to others but I've been there and it took me a several years to stop doing it. I understand it is almost an impossible request since you want to know where your hands or feet should be headed and it is hard to focus on the instructions, breathing, intention, and not falling at the same time. So if you want to start practicing yoga and your main obstacle for doing so is being intimidated in a yoga class, this are my recommendations: · Browse the internet. There are so many pages where you can learn the yoga basics such as postures alignments, breathing work, variations for beginners even short flows you can do on your own. · Choose the proper level. Usually yoga studios have different kind of levels for their classes, you should start with something slow. This is not because you are not capable of completing the other levels but it makes it easier to not compare yourself with people with years of practice and it sure makes it easier to learn in a slower pace. · Start online. If you definitely not feel comfortable attending to a yoga class you can start with YouTube videos with basic flows that will help you build confidence. (You can always stay online it is awesome, this is for people who feel better going to a studio). So the answer is: do whatever you feel comfortable with. If you need to build confidence start online until you reach it. If you want to attend a yoga class then go, nobody is going to judge you and you shouldn't either. Everyone has a first time you just didn't were there in theirs. Enjoy your practice wherever you choose to. Namaste. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Jan 2021 06:00 PM PST Just for some background info on myself: I'm an ex rhythmic gymnast and am used to extreme stretching and understand the difference between pain and leaning into the uncomfortable. I retired from gymnastics 4 years ago and after some injuries, bouts of depression and expected physical changes I am trying to reconnect with my love of movement and sport. I have always loved yoga, however took a break when COVID hit. Now that I'm getting back into yoga I've noticed some unfamiliar and odd feeling when I'm in low lunge. when I lean into it I cannot get to my fullest potential without feeling like my hip bone is digging into my quad. It doesn't hurt, but it is definitely very uncomfortable and weird feeling. Is this a common feeling? Am I tight somewhere, or missing a muscle I used to have more developed?I've never felt this and it's just so weird to me haha Any help would be appreciated :) [link] [comments]
Yoga, Weight loss and building muscle Posted: 19 Jan 2021 05:25 PM PST Has anyone here lost weight and/or built muscle doing yoga? And if so, which school of yoga did you use and what did your diet consist of? 🤗 I've only ever done Asana [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Jan 2021 12:38 PM PST Apologies if this is not the right sub for it, please feel free to redirect me :) So, my energy levels throughout the days are VERY inconsistent, I'm asking for any tips (yoga/meditation) related to channel my energy right. Also, I often feel I have extra energy stuck in my body, and I am unsure about how to release it, if it makes any sense? Especially in my thyroid area (anxious person here). My lower body is much more "energetic" than my upper body. thanks ! [link] [comments]
At what point in your practice did you start trading videos/classes for mainly doing your own flow? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 10:07 AM PST I'm about 3 months in with the latter half of that time being consistently 15-90 minutes a week 5-6 times a week. No classes yet but I do YWA and I just love her stuff so much! Now I could totally do a flow of my own for sure in the sense where I know what poses to do and what goes well into the next but I don't yet because I think that's just a small part of yoga and I really need the other things like Adriene and her chatty self reminding me when and how to breath or check my alignment. Also when your doing poses where you do one side and the next on one hand I don't want to consciously count how many per side but in the other hand I don't want to just feel it out either. I really like the idea of putting on some soft piano music or going outside and just doing my own flows but I don't think it would be seamless yet nor would I get as much out of it as I do with YWA. For now my general practice on non busy days where I have free mornings (son is in pre-k 3x a week) or nights off (I work nights) I'll do yoga for 90 minutes and I generally start out with whatever YWA's home video is of the day, then I'll move on to her deep stretch practice, then I'll do a 8-10 minute video on a specific pose (pigeon lately!) and then I'll move on to messing around with a 10-15 minute flow of my own with no video. What about you guys? When did you start flowing alone? [link] [comments]
"Standing up too fast": good or bad? Posted: 19 Jan 2021 11:56 AM PST Some movements, like moving from forward folds to standing postures (especially after a good spinal stretch) can cause a light-headed sensation many know well. A sudden drop in blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension) results in oxygen deprivation to the brain (cerebral hypoxia) and dizziness, loss of vision, etc. Many dislike the feeling and scientists warn it can cause brain damage. However, many people--myself included--feel a sense of euphoria. For me, the feeling is stronger than any drug I've taken and more complex. I feel both empowered and complete, but also viscerally alive in a way I'm otherwise not--like living a dream in full color and volume. Lately I've managed to moderate the feeling on the rise from forward fold to make it last longer and be more manageable. Why people experience this euphoria is yet unknown. But many people do--as evidenced by the intentional pursuit of the feeling in activities like erotic asphyxiation. I am a healthy man in my early 30s with no diagnosed medical conditions. I am, of course, wary of injuring myself. But also curious about the feeling and unable to find much online. Does anyone have experience or knowledge to share on the topic? [link] [comments]
