Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:41 AM PST background story: i was the most inflexible person ever (ive personally never met a more inflexible person in my life, some runners in their 60s were more flexible than me xD), and i began stretching EVERY SINGLE DAY 9 months ago and I can now touch the floor with my palms, something that i would have never imagined before.. over the last 9-10months, things were NOT easy, my progress was not linear NOR fast. I spent a lot of time on the plateau phase, doubting myself, thinking of giving up. Here i want to share of tips of why i didnt give up, and how you can use these ideas in the things you want to accomplish as well! Here is the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBE_VBVmPGE in which I detailed the ideas outlined in this thread, check it out if you are interested in this idea of Mastery Curve. # 1. No progress is linear. · I think this is often SO overlooked. When we see someone's success, we see their results but don't see all those times they are stuck on the plateau . · For the most part, occasional spurts of growth are followed by a long grueling period of plateau , and sometimes even a brief period of regression. It is important to know that this is part of a normal process # 2. Plateau is INTERNAL growth · Plateau by definition is a period of time where you don't see visible results. In stretching, that means even when I stretch every day, I am not seeing any physical improvement in my postures. BUT that doesn't mean you are not making progress and growth INTERNALLY · When you keep practicing even though it seems like things are going NOWHERE. You build DISPLICINE and HABITS. And those things are crucial and fundamental in long term success # 3. Don't focus on the results, because they are fleeing. · Just emphasizing that when we are learning or mastering a new skill, the MAJORITY of the time will be spent on plateau, the phase building up for the rapid spurt of growth. The actual glory/epiphany is so EPHEMERAL · If you focus too much on the results, it is inevitable that you become overly disappointed and discouraged during the plateau phase and find less enjoyment during the plateau phases. As a result, it is more likely that you abandon that activity # 4. Trust in the process and progress will come · By developing a better understanding of the natural course of mastery, we understand that it is normal and inevitable to spend A LOT of time on the plateau. Therefore, there's nothing to be discouraged about · It is a phase and it will pass. At the end of the plateau we will experience rapid external growth. During the plateau, we can use it to practice our patience and discipline # 5. Pursue activities that you love When you truly love a skill/activity for what they are, it becomes easier to push through the plateaus. You do the activity simply because you enjoy it , and whether results come or not is less relevant Finally, I also highly recommend the book mastery by George Leonard! Cheers! [link] [comments]
Would you join a one-month online program for body flexibility development ? Posted: 01 Feb 2021 04:30 AM PST Hey everyone! I need your opinion, It's not a promotional post, there're no links and names. I work on a project started by an Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics. She created her own one-month online-program for back flexibility development. The program is aimed at people with minor back health issues resulting from sedentary work, and people concerned about developing their body's flexibility for better health state, body posture improvement, wellness sustaining and self confidence overall. It consists of 12 workouts with the author's favorite exercises from yoga, wushu and rhythmic gymnastics. The workouts complexity increases gradually for the training to be injury-safe, but effective. The subscription will cost from $50 per month. And I would like to know your honest and unbiased opinion regarding the project. Would you join it yourself? Or why if you would not? Thank you! [link] [comments]

Why are my ankles hindering my progress Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:04 PM PST I just started stretching last week doing basic stuff and I've always had really weak ankles but now when I'm trying to stretch my ankles seem to making a lot of the stretches impossible so I'm wondering what stretches I can to do to fix it(as long as I can remember I've had weak ankles). Thanks for any help! [link] [comments]
Pain in the back of the thigh when performing High kicks and when stretching it. Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:07 PM PST I've been doing martial arts for about 12 years now, and starting recently, I start to experience pain in my right leg, specifically the back thigh. the pain comes when I perform a high left leg roundhouse kick(my right thigh is being stretched when doing a left roundhouse kick), when I raise my right leg up high for dynamic stretching, and when trying to do a front split. The pain is only in my right back thigh, and not in my other thigh. Will resting the leg solve the issue? I rested it for about 5 days and no progress. Can anyone make an intelligent guess of what the problem is? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:39 PM PST I just did the first day of a splits challenge from Boho Beautiful. Now, I'm no stranger to yoga (I practiced hour long sessions for 3+ months when studying at home, dropped it when I went to Uni and discovered their gym, and now trying to flirt back with it), but all I did there was a 20 minute challenge and... I wasn't able to do the splits, so why does doing a bit of stretching for the lower half of your body make you feel so wonderful!? I feel amazing for some reason? Also, does practicing flexibility make you fitter overall? Does it provide any toning benefits? I've never been a fit lady (eternally doughy and a little plump lmao... although I -can- touch my toes which is something!) but these past few years I've incorporated daily exercise into my routine, except for a few lazy spells. :) I'm asking because I worry that when I focus a session purely on flexibility, that I should be doing cardio/strength building instead and that I'm 'missing out'. =\ [link] [comments]
Problem with controlling a stretch Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:32 AM PST So I'm struggling with something when I sit down with my legs straight and try to get them as wide apart as I can it's really embarrassing like I'm physically not able to stretch them a lot. And I noticed a lot of people around me don't have that problem. Can anyone please tell me why that is a thing/ how I can change it? [link] [comments]
