Posted: 05 Feb 2021 05:17 PM PST I've been a W-sitter all my life (27F), meaning I sit opposite of pretzel-style. This coupled with my lack of exercise has led to me having awful knees, hips, posture, and flexibility. It's really bad for you, make sure your kids don't sit in this position for too long!!! While I appear to be in good shape and have a nice body, I've grown less confident in my body and I'm self conscious during sex. My knees even pop when I bend them! I'm too self conscious to go to yoga classes, and when I follow videos online I get so discouraged. Even the simplest positions like sitting cross-legged can be painful. What are some stretches I can do to reverse the effects of W-sitting and ultimately become more flexible? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2021 06:07 PM PST I have tight hamstrings. I know this. But for some reason, when I do movements that seem like they should be getting stretched, my calves are where I feel stretching. I have the same issue with my forearms feeling the stretch instead of upper arms. [link] [comments] |
My yoga studio does a yogansm class which is a cross between yoga and sex positions, should I do it? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 06:34 PM PST The yoga studio I go to told me they do a class called yogansm which is yoga with sex positions. Should I do this? I feel like it could be fun but I am not sure if it is something I should do for obvious reasons. The lady told me also that during the class the instructor says "show me your yo face." Having Some Issues With Leg Flexability Posted: 05 Feb 2021 11:06 AM PST Hi all! Looking for a bit of advice. I see to be having an issue with some of my flexibility in my legs, knee area to be more specific. I'm having issues with poses such as camel. I just can't seem to be able to sit back onto my legs. I feel as though my knees are going to tear apart if I force myself to go any further. I have had 3 artho knee surgeries in the past, but it's been at least over 10 years. I also started to cycle and run A LOT during Covid, so I am not sure if the muscle build up might have something to do with this as well. Any suggestions to any sort of stretches, poses, etc. that might be able to help me get to more flexability in my legs? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2021 03:51 AM PST Hi all! I (f26) have been doing ashtanga for about four months now. Where I live we still luckily have face-to-face classes, because the situation with the pandemic isn't that bad. I also attended the basic course and then started mysore classes a while ago. I love it, I love everything with ashtanga – the challenges, the peace, the feeling the practice leaves to my body. It is therapy for me. I know this is silly, but I still find myself with doubting thoughts and comparing myself to others. I truly want to gain more trust with myself and have the encouragement to be vulnerable. How do I get rid of the thoughts that my instructors think that my progress is not enough or the other yogis are laughing behind my back? I know these thoughts have deeper roots, but does somebody with similar thoughts or more experience in yoga maybe share their piece of advice? [link] [comments] |
Hurt my shoulder/back in a pose, any advice Posted: 05 Feb 2021 09:15 AM PST I skipped yoga for a couple of days, this morning I was doing a guided Hatha practice on Down Dog. Twenty minutes in I could tell I did something to my upper right back. Either I held a side plank weird or a corkscrew pose . I stopped immediately and now the pain is getting increasingly worse, I had a tough time even getting dressed. Do you guys have any advice or stretches that could help undo or alleviate this pain? Its the upper right/middle shoulder blade area. [link] [comments] |
How many calories do you burn during Hot Yoga Flows / Power Hot Yoga? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:37 PM PST I've been doing yoga for about a year now. Shortly after COVID my studio raised prices and I just couldn't afford it. Started doing yoga at home, gained some weight, started drinking more. The extra weight has been getting to me lately and not doing yoga in a studio or as regularly has shown up in how I feel. Recently I went online and looked at a different studio that I had somehow overlooked or just not taken into consideration a year ago when I began doing yoga or anytime since. This studio has an amazing unlimited package that I could afford. Their classes are mainly hot yoga flow and power hot yoga. I'm male, 6'2, 254lbs / 115.2kgs. I'm changing my diet, cutting out drinking, and doing yoga everyday. I want to get down to 200lbs by May. I've looked at different sites that feature calorie calculators specifically designed for yoga. However, individual results vary so much. My question is, how many calories do you typically burn during one of the aforementioned classes, or really any vigorous 60 - 75 minute class? I don't wear a smart watch or track my stats, but I know a lot of you probably do. Any feedback will be good feedback since I'm only trying to approximate. Thanks fellow yogis! And namaste :) [link] [comments] |
stretches for the outside of the hip? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 03:38 AM PST Dont know the name of this bodypart. Its the outside of the hip, but not the front or back, but the actual side. It might be the gluteus medius but not sure because I feel its a bit more towards the from of the body then I think gluteus medius is supposed to be at. Anyone has a good stretch for this part? Finally found the perfect yoga mat (beginner) Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:37 PM PST I have been having trouble for a while with too long yoga mats / too skinny. Just wanted to let anyone who has had these issues, this mat really helped me. https://www.gurupad.co/product/pu-leather-gurupad It's tailored to your height and weight (it's fun being 5'1). Hopefully this might help anyone who has had the same struggles as me. [link] [comments] |
