Something that improved my meditations: Setting a stopwatch instead of a timer

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 09:29 AM PDT

I usually set my timer for 30 minutes, but recently I decided to use a stopwatch instead. I noticed I enjoy my meditations way more, and seem to get more out of it, because im not waiting on a timer to go off, and im more tuning into whatever my intuition says. I seem to allow myself to go deeper. The funny thing is usually when I open my eyes and look at the stopwatch it's exactly at 30-35 minutes :)

Is it possible to meditate successfully without focusing on breath?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 07:39 PM PDT

Everything I've read and heard tell me to focus on my breath, but as much as I try to do that I can't. Is there anything else I can focus on or try? Any tips or tricks would help.

How do I calm down my heart?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 10:51 PM PDT

It's been 25 days since I started meditating. I started it to calm down my anxiety. Now, whenever I sit and start meditating my heart starts to pound. All my attention goes towards it. Even in the daily life I sense palpitations. How do I calm down my heart? (PS: I have no heart diseases)

I'm making a meditation game called Gamitate! BETA version coming SOON! More info in the description.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 06:45 PM PDT

Hey friends! First of all let me apologize if this is a violation of the sub's rules!

I avoided posting on bigger subs (only to gamedev subs) but I feel it's time to introduce Gamitate to the world.

Long story short - Gamitate is a meditation game. A game that should help experienced or beginner practitioners of meditation meditate.

What kinds of meditation techniques, you may ask? I'm glad you asked. :)

There are a couple of "standard" techniques such as focusing on an object, focusing on a sensation, etc. There are also some techniques that utilize focus to the senses for a better connection to the now. Then there are self-love, self-forgiveness, humbleness, etc.

I've also took the liberty to add some techniques which I discovered during my own inner journeys.

All in all some ~30 techniques, nicely packaged for easy daily consumption and benefit.

During the development of the game I've had the chance to taste "my own food", so to speak. And it tastes good! I've achieved some great states of being after some sessions, rediscovered some old passions after others, relaxed greatly after yet certain sessions.

I think that the greatest benefit of Gamitate is the so called "chaining effect". During a game session you get (by design) to experience lots of these techniques one after another. I observed that this in turn increases the efficiency of a meditation session. Like going to the gym and getting a full body pump by doing different exercises, instead of just one.

The results are subjective since I'm the only beneficiary and observant. I intend to change that as soon as possible by releasing a (closed) beta version for people willing to participate.

You are after all the people who this game is made for! With your input and feedback it can become a great healing tool!

With your permission I'd like to post here a couple more times, specially when I'll need your input for the beta version!

That being said, I'm going to take my leave and wish you all a peaceful day!

Before I go here's a live session showing some techniques and general usage of Gamitate (not representative of the final quality of the product). And ofc the steam page, featuring more trailers, info, screenshots and so on.

Does anyone have any recommendations for meditation stools/cushions?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 01:46 AM PDT

I have done most of my meditation practice lying down so far. But I wish to improve my posture and meditate sitting on the floor. However I'm quite tall (6'3" or 190cm) and haven't developed much flexibility yet. This morning I improvised this setup with an old kitchen step and pillows and it was definitely my most comfortable meditation yet as I could actually get my knees below my hips. So I'm wondering what do others in this community use or if there are particular brands of cushion that you have found to be of good quality as I wouldn't mind investing in one. Many thanks 🙏

Q> Details on how to deal with maintaining focus?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 01:02 AM PDT

Hello! I've always been curious about how I should meditate when I keep losing focus.

When you focus on your breath, there are many aspects when it comes to keeping focus on breath.

From what I experienced, there might be two aspects that we can focus on.

1>sensation of breath coming in and out of my nose ends.

2>or the just internally "felt" entirety of just feeling that I am breathing

(I think it requires less focus level than "1>", but I found I am likely to lose focus easily and found myself in a train of thought)

So which one do you think is the right one to focus?

    And another question is..

    When you relax,

it is natural that other sensations or mental stuff(thoughts)

come and we fall into that.

but how do you deal with that specifically?

As in the first question, I experienced there are two approaches that I could use:

(These two approaches of course reflect that we shouldn't fall into the thoughts coming to us while meditating)

1> I just recognize them(like at minimum, just to recognize it happened to my mind) and just move my focus back to

the breathing recognition. (if I can use a metaphor, this behavior is like I never "touch" them but just recognize them and fall back to where I was(focusing on my breath))

2> I observe and feel those contents (in this way, we check the mental, sensations better than the first approach) and then go back to our breathing.

Thank you for reading my question and for your answer in advance.

    Three Months of Routine Meditation

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 08:23 AM PDT

I started meditating since I was 18/19 years old, but I only did it once or twice, and then abandon it completely for stretches of time (like, a few months or a few years) before I got back to it.

I used to always think that the next thing I learn about will FINALLY change my life for the better.

    Here's a summary :

Hypnosis? This is it! I can hypnotize myself to become the best person ever and successful in life! Then I read a bit here and there, not even practicing any of it.

NLP? This is it! It's much better than hypnosis! It's Neuro-Linguistic Programming, with this I can finally program my brain to become the best version of myself! Then I read a bit here and there, only applying bits and pieces.

Magick? Occult? Wow this could be it! With Chaos Magick I could shape the world like I wanted! I could become a doctor by asking a spirit! I will lose weight! I will get a girl of my dream! Did some rituals here and there, then I completely forgot about it. Although, looking back, perhaps they DID work? Lol

This went on and on for years, and in the process I learned bits and pieces about : Hypnosis, NLP, Wicca, Occultism, Buddhism, Lucid Dreaming, Fitness programs, Intermittent Fasting, Mnemonics and Memory Palace, Spaced Repetition System, Personal Development, General Semantics, Critical Thinking, smart drugs, How to create habits, learned to play a bit of piano, created my own alphabet, learned how to roughly write with my left hand, and, of course, Meditation and Mindfulness.

I did meditate routinely for quite some time when I was 23 years old, but then, just like how our mind wanders in meditation, I got side-tracked and abandoned meditation again.

Last year, on December, I decided that I will seriously practice meditation routinely for at least a month. I set the minimum time to meditate daily for ten minutes (I still have this rule, but now I meditate for 30-120 minutes daily). Why did I want to do this? Because I watched Hunter X Hunter, and the Nen thing was so cool. But what I was most impressed by is Netero's persistence and his religiousness to his practice and meditation. I want to be like that. No, not become the strongest human being, but, I want to have his perseverance, his strength, his pure focus.

Now, after three months of consistent meditation practice, I feel like everything I've been learning all these years just fall into place, almost perfectly.

I used to be very prone to anger, not anymore. I used to be anxious in social situations, now they're actually quite fun. I used to be afraid of phone calls, especially from my seniors (I'm in the military), not anymore. I used to hate giving public speeches, now I can understand how to benefit others by my speeches. I used to dread having to go on watch duty, now it's quite bearable. I used to always launder my clothes and buy my food, now I wash and iron them myself, while also cook my own food. It's much cheaper and much more satisfying 😄

This reminds me that, everyone's journey is different. Flowers bloom in their own time. I never would've thought that I could be this peaceful and more accepting. Ah, another lesson I could take from this is that : Doing the practice >>>>> just reading about it.

If you've read this far, thank you. I hope you will always be healthy, happy, peaceful and always be protected from harm ☺

*Candle Meditation *Meditation Music- forest sounds * Meditation calm *M...

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 12:34 AM PDT

Just created a new meditation video - it's a little over 7 minutes long and has forest sound as a background. I've also included a ships bell sound at the start and the end of the video to signal when to start and finish. Really enjoying this project- I'm doing it to help me - not only in my meditation but also learning how to create videos. If it helps someone then great. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve, or what would be useful for them to listen then please feel free to comment or send a message here.

Any likes on the video would be greatly appreciated but are not the reason for posting. Stay safe everyone and take each day as it comes.

I got a new path for my life, after days of meditation

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 10:54 AM PDT

I am starting a non-profit and dedicating the remainder of my life (and my family agrees to follow me in this) and am starting a charity to clean this planet, save the oceans, remove plastic, and all garbage from every corner I can reach of this globe, build nature reserves, plant trees, and start wildlife rescue and repopulation efforts. I need help in this. I am leaving with my family tomorrow to hit the beach to fill up four trash bags full of trash. Is any one willing to donate to this? I am trying to get the non-profit set up here in the Philippines, and we are building the site now. Please if this is against the groups rules then delete this post, I am just interested in seeing if anyone will support me on this new life's purpose. After years of meditation, and a loss for the need of material things, this is what I want to do till I die. Thank you kindly for your consideration and don't hesitate to reach out! There is a page for all social media platforms coming soon! Like I said, if this is against the pages rules please remove, but i seen nothing in regards to charity, and I am not promoting a page, as a page does not exist yet. Forgive me if I failed to notice anything in regards to rules against this.

    Relaxed hand position

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 12:03 AM PDT

So I'm a beginner, and I'm reading about meditation. One common recommendation is to hold your hands in your lap, palms up with thumbs touching. It makes an oval, as if you are holding an egg. What I have noticed though, is that when I do this it is not a relaxed position for me. That is to say, it takes effort for me to keep me hands together. Is that what it is like for a lot of people? I prefer to have my hands on top of my legs, as it takes less effort to hold my posture and also helps me sit up straighter that way.

How to meditate correctly? What is the goal?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 08:00 PM PDT

I have recently got into meditating and I tend to get to a very relaxed state where I can't feel my limbs and focus on my breathing. It's a very calming state but I am not sure where to go past that. I'm a complete newbie so any tips or advice would be great!

    Anyone else have significant dissociation?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:59 AM PDT

Theres a few names for it

Dissociation, depersonalization, soul loss, soul fragmentation

It sucks not feeling aware or awake spiritually in your own body. Its like living in blurry 360p video resolution

Ive been like this since I was 18

Also mild dysphoria goes with it usually

Psychedelics are the only way to see the truth of higher consciousness and soul awareness that makes my body feel right and connected

Sometimes it makes it hard to meditate

Does anyone else deal with this?

    Vipassana meditation and migraines

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:09 PM PDT

I am suffering from chronic daily headaches and migraines. I had done 10 days retreat 5 years back but stopped practising after the completion. Now, I am starting regular practice due to uncontrollable headaches.

Whenever I do Vipassana, I am facing one problem. It is said by Goenka that no sensation lasts forever. They will come and go. But, the sensation in my head doesn't go away even after focusing on it. I can see that they are changing in nature but doesn't go away.

Also, due to continuos sensation in head, I try to focus more on head because it is always present. Is it good or should I remove my attention from head after certain time and focus on other sensation.

P.S. I have done MRI of brain and it's completely normal. Hence, there aren't any other abnormalities in my head/brain.

Feeling really really tense during meditation.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 03:13 PM PDT

So I started about three weeks ago. I followed the headspace thing on netflix, then the basics guided meditations and now I'm on the Day 5 of Bascis 2 with headspace.

I get unbearably anxious or tense. I feel like I get restless leg syndrome but all over my body. It's really unbearable. Some times I can sit through it, but other times I just can't continue and I have to stop.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Know of any good 30-45 minute minimally-guided meditations?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 05:29 PM PDT

I'm trying to increase my daily meditation from ~15 minutes to ~30-45 minutes but I am struggling. I typically do unguided, but for now I would love some minimally guided ones.

Anyone know of a good one to use?
