Random routines through the Yoga Studio app and just did day 5 of Yoga with Adriene. I've done no more than once or twice a week in the past, and have probably attended 20 sessions or so in my 40 years. I've never really worked on the breathing side of things before and it's lovely.

I need this and it's so good.

Any suggestions for home routines are welcome, but I just needed to share.

Poses that strengthen back (“pulling motions”)

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 12:08 PM PST

Hello r/yoga. I started doing yoga a couple years ago and have really appreciated the benefits over other fitness regimens. But I have noticed that I am somewhat asymmetrically strengthening my chest while my inner back muscles (right under the shoulders, the group that drives low rows and the like) haven't caught up, and it's causing some shoulder pain. In the past, I have solved this by strengthening these muscles with weightlifting routines, but I can't do that during covid, and honestly I'd rather address it with yoga.

What poses are good for this? Any thoughts?

is it wise to do gym alongside Yoga?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 08:17 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

i am enrolled in a bodyweight training program for body fitness. I feel however, it is causing setbacks in my flexibility. What is your take on this?

But ive seen a couple of muscular yoga trainers as well which makes me rethink this question.

I am fairly new to yoga ( couple of months in) so i don't know if im doing it right.

    Hot yoga during COVID

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 02:56 PM PST

I miss hot yoga but I'm not comfortable deep breathing in a room with other people yet so I'm wondering what others have done during the pandemic.

The Hot Yoga Dome looks awesome but it's expensive and I'm not sure if it's worth it at this point. I wish I discovered it sooner. I do have a Hotworx (video led workouts in mini saunas for like $70/month) near me which seems like a good solution but the slots fill up quick and you only get 30 minutes per slot.

Has anyone found a good way to practice at home?

Join our subreddit of dating for spiritual people!

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 04:33 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I have noticed that a majority of spiritual communities tend to feel lonely and hard to fit in in our daily life. We also seek soulmates/twinflames/meaningful connections, and it is sad that sometimes we are unable to share our minds and hearts with people who do not share our belief.

Then you may consider joining the subreddit r/soul4soul. It is just made and very new, but I hope this could make our journey easier.

Feel free to post about yourself in there. I hope you find what your heart longs for.

    Love and peace.

Online Yoga classes are a terrible way for beginners to get flexible

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 03:07 PM PST

I swear to god, whenever I talk about my desire to improve flexibility, or the active stretching work i've been doing, I'm always told I should just do yoga, so I finally gave in and signed up to a well-reviewed online site. It's fucking terrible.

I'm awfully inflexible, having lifted weights for a long time with little regard for my flexibility. I get that, but I was promised that yoga was a good way for a beginner to get some basic flexibility. That couldn't be further from the truth.

I log in to this site, select a beginner class, and right off the bat, we're going through a number of poses--none of which a beginner like me knows by name--and the instructors don't once tell me how I should be doing the pose. I can't do a pike, so should I keep my back straight and go as low as possible, or should I round my back and touch the mat? No clue, because I was never told.

Position 3 in this beginner class was downward facing dog. I have no idea if I was doing it correctly, because even at the beginner class, they offered absolutely no cues about the movement. Again, legs straight? Back straight? No clue.

I thought maybe I'd try a different class. This one focused on those ever problematic hamstrings, and promised an easy, 2/5, difficulty, and yet, by pose four, it assumed that you can do the full splits, and gave no advice to those mortals that deigned to be so imperfect as to not quite manage it. Seriously. What would these fuckers say if they saw me come into class, "OK, welcome to the beginner class you paralysed fuck, today in intro to breathing, we'll be starting with some index finger handstand splits" Absolutely blood boiling. It'd like an online weighlifting app being like, ok guys, today's a beginner class let's warm up with a 2 plate bench. WHAT'S THE POINT IN A BEGINNER'S CLASS IF IT ASSUMES I HAVE A WEALTH OF FUCKING YOGA KNOWLEDGE. DON'T SAY "DOWNWARD DOG" TELL ME WHAT I'M SUPPOSED TO BE FEELING AND WHERE TO PUT MY FUCKING HANDS

Needless to say, I'm a little bit disheartened at the yoga offering. I took a beginner class only for spiritual steve to clown on me with some absurd backwards Mongolian shoulder pop.

It really seems like Yoga is the way to show off your flexibility once you have it, and not the way to actually get it in the first place. I'm sure it will help people make progress once you've got some basic flexibility, but if you don't, god help you, because these online classes sure as fuck won't

Have you participated in studio classes where you had to wear a mask the entire time?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:13 AM PST

I'm starting to get so frustrated that I can't go back to a studio yet, my plan was to wait until I get the vaccine but I think studios generally have a mask mandate which I totally understand. But I'm not sure I want to do a hour plus class with a mask on. What were your experiences like?

    Yoga Program for Client

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:18 AM PST

I'm a personal trainer, and I have a client who wants to start doing Yoga 4-5 days per week. I don't have much of a background in Yoga, so I was wondering if any of you had a good program I can put her on (she'd be willing to pay)?

She wants a program for beginners that focuses on stretching, mindfulness, and basic movements that don't keep her on her wrists for very long. Any advice?

    Tips for weak legs?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 11:20 PM PST

Hey everyone! I've been doing yoga on and off for the past 3 years, and I find that the thing that usually sends me for time off is practices that frustrate me because of leg pain. I've tried doing a lot of strength building for my legs and I can't find the right poses.

I'm very anemic so blood flows slowly to my legs, and have knee problems so it is really painful for me to stay on my knees (like putting it down in low lunge)

Does anyone have any tips for a better practice?

    Question for progress

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 10:13 PM PST

I got a query. I (42M) am practicing yoga regularly since last September. Yoga has been the gift of pandemic, and I like yoga more as I practice. (I have a couple of years regular sports background.) I began using Down Dog, and recently I started using Glo, for a couple of weeks. The question is how should I proceed for progress. I practice a 30 minute session in the morning and a 30 minute session in the evening. I practice six or seven days a week. I usually practice 1-2 level at Glo, which provides the exact limits I can perform. I usually practice vinyasa yoga and sometimes hatha yoga. I am neither balanced, nor too flexible. I am not into the spiritual side of yoga but I truly like yoga and I like Glo. I know showing up makes progress. Can you recommend a path to develop.

I need video recommendations for my parents

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 09:27 PM PST

So I am just beginning to practice yoga regularly and have seen the benefits it has had in the short time I have been practicing. I am not very knowledgeable on the different kinds of yoga and am looking to help my mom and dad get into better shape possibly through yoga. They are both in there mid 40s with average fitness.

My father is an army veteran with very bad back problems. He is proud and will hate doing anything he would describe as "girly" or feminine. I'm looking for some yoga routine videos I can send him that will help with back, shoulder or neck pain and overall help him feel stronger and less achey.

My mother struggles with weight issues but is open to just about anything. I just want to help her get more excited and actually enjoy an exercise.

I understand if it is to hard to link a video or routine and any advice is appreciated.
