Watching someone fall in love with yoga

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 09:24 PM PST

Hello! I've been practicing yoga on and off for about five years. I've always encouraged my boyfriend to try it out, but he never was interested. To give some background, he's a big guy and plays hours of video games, is on his feet at work for 8+ hours a day; his body is beat up from Drum Corp. and he struggles with ADHD. Recently, he came up to me in the store with a mat he picked out. I was excited, but didn't think much of it. We did one practice, which he liked but I never thought it would stick. Late last night I grabbed my mat to do a short practice before bed. When he realized what I was doing he got very excited and asked if he could join. I was so happy I could've cried! Tonight he asked me again if we could do yoga. I know this isn't much, but yoga means so much to me and to see him enjoy it, want to do it, and feeling good about himself makes me so happy. I know how powerful yoga is and I'm really excited for him to experience it!

Anyway, thank you for reading this and sharing in with my excitement :)

Edit: tysm for the silver and kind words!!

Recommendations for women’s undies with yoga pants?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:28 PM PST

Fellow lady yogis, do you care about VPL? Do you have any recs if you do? Don't care when I'm home, but prefer a seamless look when I'm out. I know thongs are popular, but they're not my favorite, especially during a workout lol

Thinking About My First Yoga Practice

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:06 AM PST

My life can be a little caotic sometimes. My home environment isn't the most positive so my brain/ my thoughts can be cluttered most times.

I remember about 2 1/2 years ago I decided to take a yoga class, my first in years since I was little. I was nervous and a little confused at first. You know on your first class you don't know anything so you're constantly looking around making sure you're doing the poses right? That was me. My yoga instuctor was so fun and full of positive energy, which made me feel welcomed and was so enjoyable.

Anyways, I remeber being in Shavasana at the end of my first class and being filled with so much emotion that I almost cried. Not because I was sad, unhappy, or unsatisifed, because I had never felt such stillness or peace of mind in my life.

Yoga has changed. My. Life. especially mentally. I am so happy with myself for doing something for me, and most proud that I've kept at it. Still to this day 2 and a half years later, I still get emotional at times from the peace, stillness, and mindfulness my yoga practice brings me.

Just wanted to share this with someone! I would love to hear about you're first yoga class too :)

    Question about wrist band/wrist wrap

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 07:10 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I am recovering from a wrist injuries and can finally go back to my practice! I am looking into some kind of wrist band/wrap to help with my injury and having weak wrist in general. From what I can see, the wrist wrap type for weightlifting seems too stiff for yoga. The other kind I see is the fingerless pression glove type, but I dont think those would have enough grip for positions like downward facing dog. Does anybody have wrist band that help your wrist stay in a safe position and who work well with yoga? What kind do you use? Thank you!

Ps. Not looking for medical advice on wrist injuries/recovery, just a product recommendation.

    Affirmations for yin yoga

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 02:39 PM PST

Hi! I like doing yin yoga with affirmations, but I can't find many yin classes on youtube with affirmations (except of Kassandra's and I have done most of them). Is there a website/blog etc with affirmations that I could use, but then connected to the different chakras/meridians/seasons/elements?

Anyone have any advice on yin yoga and gentle hatha yoga for folks with chronic health conditons?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 06:54 AM PST

I have a number of chronic issues including Fibromyalgia and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (chronic fatigue syndrome), and I struggle to find yoga on you tube thay is really appropriate for me during time when I having a low energy.

For folks like me we will be able to walk 3km no porblme one week and then not be able to get out of bed for 3 weeks. We need really gentle exercise we can do when we are in a low energy cycle so that we don't completely lose our strength.

    Any leads are very welcomed

Yoga course to move from beginner/intermediate to advanced?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 01:11 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I've been doing yoga on and off for around a year and a half and love it, but feel like I want to progress and not sure how.

I do really well with structure and was wondering if any of you have heard of a yoga course/plan that can be followed to help advance you to the next level? I guess similar to what you can find with 12 week workout programs, but yoga style.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance 😊

Question: Is 30 mins a day for 5 days a week enough?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 03:22 AM PST

    Hello,

I have been using resistance bands to help get in shape three times a week along with two days of cardio. I wanted to add 30 mins of yoga in the mornings for the benefits. Is that enough to gain it's benefits in conjunction with my normal 30 min workouts?

    Thank you for reading!

Does anyone else get bad back pain if they lay their legs flat in shavasana?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 01:00 PM PST

I have to lay on my side or put my legs on the wall or I literally won't be able to walk after from back pain! It's really weird and been like this for years now.

I do this wierd stretch. Is it safe?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 10:52 AM PST

So i sometimes do this stretch where, for example, im laying down. I lift my legs and cross them, and push my hips with my hands down (or vertical) while i move my torso up. Feels wonderful on the low back and spine. But is it safe? I havent seen it anywhere.

Also can do it sitting down or with legs in L pose against a wall.

    Sirsasana help

    Posted: 05 Mar 2021 04:55 AM PST

I have been trying (off and on) for six months to get into Sirsasana. I've watched half a dozen YouTube videos and nothing is helping. I decided to try again yesterday. Admittedly, it had been a while since I had attempted the pose. But, I thought that using the wall would help. Here's my question, if I'm starting from ground zero (so to speak), should I face the wall or have my back to the wall? Or, is there some other way to practice getting into Sirsasana?
